The Blind Men and the Soft Drinks Industry in the United Arab Emirates

  • Purpose - This paper explores the contribution lean makes to service levels by addressing lean thinking application in logistics process improvement within a MNC soft drinks manufacturer situated in the United Arab Emirates, and identifies the most significant sources of wastes and their interdependence and highlights key attributes of successful lean implementation. Research design, data, and methodology - This case study examines key logistics employees' perceptions on lean methodology. Results - The results highlight the most significant types of wastes in logistical processes and illustrates ways to eliminate wastes and streamline process flow. The importance of the human role within lean methodology is also identified. Findings suggest that managers should follow both a micro and macro approach when implementing lean practices, as focusing on one waste often leads to ignoring the significance of other wastes. Conclusions - This study highlights the importance of implementing lean at both micro and macro levels and shows how staff involvement increases the efficacy of lean thinking. It offers guidance towards the efficiency of creating value stream mapping processes in situ, which considers different wastes and their interdependence. Managers with limited resources are encouraged to implement lean methodology taking cognizance of these factors.

  • The advance information for oceangoing cargoes destined to th United States enable CBP to evaluate the potential risk of smuggling WMD and to facilitate the prompt release of legitimate cargo following its arrival in the Unites States. On January 1, 2008, CBP promulgate regulations, also known as 10+2 rule, to require the electronic transmission of additional data elements for improved high-risk targeting, including appropriate security elements of entry data for cargo destined to the United States by vessel prior to loading of such cargo on vessels at foreign seaports. The potential impact to an importer's international supply chain will be as follows ; Firstly, importers will take incremental supply chain costs and filing costs. Secondly, anticipate delay in shipment of containerized cargo. Thirdly, importers could be charged fines if they fail to file and file inaccurate or missing data. Companies exporting to the United States should be interested in 10+2 rule, analyze their current processes and procedures to ensure that they are prepared to handle the additional filing requirements of 10+2 rule. And they should focus on how 10+2 impacts their supply chain in terms of costs and sourcing. They will be necessary to revise service legal agreements with their forwarders, customs brokers or carriers in order to meet filing requirements of 10+2 rule.

Developing Strategy for Heritage Tourism Supply Chain Quality Management

  • Increasing the tourism sector has a positive impact on a country. The Indonesian government has targeted to increase the number of tourists from year to year including the heritage tourism sector. However, the number of the heritage tourism sector increases slowly. To overcome this problem, this research is aimed to investigate the services performed by managements of that sector; the barrier and driver factors of heritage tourism supply chain quality management; and to identify strategies that can be implemented to improve the sector. This study used SERVQUAL method to analyze service performance of the sector. Furthermore, an in-depth interview was conducted to achieve completed objectives. The data obtained from questionnaires and interviews in several heritage tourism areas located in East Java Province of Indonesia. The results show that all SERVQUAL dimensions stay on the adequate value range. Visitors argue that the heritage tourism sector in East Java has interesting locations, collections and circumstances. However, the sector has several weaknesses compared to other tourism sectors. The strategy that can be done to improve the performance of this sector are to perform the area as an event venue, additional visiting hours, integration with other types of tourism sectors, making websites as a means of promotion.

  • e-비지니스환경에서의 SCM의 성공적인 추진을 위해서는 우선 e-business 전략과 Supply Chain 관리 전략의 상하 연계, 조직측면에 있어서의 경영자의 변화에 대한 혁신 능력과 리더쉽, 조직 구성원들과의 비전 공유, 저보기술(IT)을 활용한 보다 차별화된 서비스가 제공되어야 한다. 본 연구는 C기업의 사례로 통해, 기존의 SCM 기법에서 정보기술(IT)의 급속한 발달과 인터넷의 급속한 보급, 그리고 e-비지니스의 등장으로 인하여 경영환경의 변화라는 새로운 패러다임 하에서 다수의 경쟁기업, 정보 네트워크시스템 기반에서 보다 효과적으로 기업과 고객에게 대응하기 위한 기업의 구체적이고 실무적인 전략 측면에서 다루어 보았다는 데 그 의의가 있다. 소비재, 생활용품에 있어서 보다 빠른 납기, 보다 전문적이고 다양화되고 있는 고객의 욕구를 충족시키기 위해 제조기업 측면에서 어떻게 기존의 조직구조 및 업무 프로세스를 혁신 할 것인가를 실제 사례를 통하여 연구함으로써 동종 산업체나 또는 기업의 실무자들에게 있어 큰 도움이 될 것이다.

공급사슬상에서 연장보증의 경제적 효과 (The Effect of Extended Warranties on Economic Outcome in a Supply Chain)

  • Purpose: In Part 1, the purpose of this study is to examine how a used product provider optimizes a company's profits by comparing an extended warranty to a used product only when selling a product and what it provides later. In addition, in Part 2, an empirical study can confirm the structure in which extended guarantees can work effectively by grasping consumers' purchase intention according to the time of sale of extended guarantees, which is the basic premise of the analysis model of Part 1. Methods: This study aims to conduct not only analytical studies but also empirical studies applying various statistical analysis methods using questionnaires targeting customers and potential consumers who have subscribed to extended warranty services. Results: The study showed that the profits of companies providing extended warranty services were proportional to the coefficient of the extended guarantee service value, so it is necessary to create an environment in which the effect of extended guarantee services can be well realized. In the empirical model, the higher the emotional and economic benefits are perceived, the higher the purchase intention according to the future purchase of extended guarantees. Conclusion: Through this study, various problems that may be caused by the structural diversity of the supply chain providing extended warranties in the future can be viewed and contribute to the theoretical foundation for strategic understanding.

불확실성하에서의 확률적 기법에 의한 판매 및 실행 계획 최적화 방법론 : 서비스 산업 (Optimization Methodology for Sales and Operations Planning by Stochastic Programming under Uncertainty : A Case Study in Service Industry)

  • In recent years, business environment is faced with multi uncertainty that have not been suffered in the past. As supply chain is getting expanded and longer, the flow of information, material and production is also being complicated. It is well known that development service industry using application software has various uncertainty in random events such as supply and demand fluctuation of developer's capcity, project effective date after winning a contract, manpower cost (or revenue), subcontract cost (or purchase), and overrun due to developer's skill-level. This study intends to social contribution through attempts to optimize enterprise's goal by supply chain management platform to balance demand and supply and stochastic programming which is basically applied in order to solve uncertainty considering economical and operational risk at solution supplier. In Particular, this study emphasizes to determine allocation of internal and external manpower of developers using S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) as monthly resource input has constraint on resource's capability that shared in industry or task. This study is to verify how Stochastic Programming such as Markowitz's MV (Mean Variance) model or 2-Stage Recourse Model is flexible and efficient than Deterministic Programming in software enterprise field by experiment with process and data from service industry which is manufacturing software and performing projects. In addition, this study is also to analysis how profit and labor input plan according to scope of uncertainty is changed based on Pareto Optimal, then lastly it is to enumerate limitation of the study extracted drawback which can be happened in real business environment and to contribute direction in future research considering another applicable methodology.

패션기업의 SCM환경에서 관계구축에 영향을 미치는 CRM요인 (The Effect of CRM Factors in Supply Chain Management of Fashion Apparel Company)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 패션기업의 SCM(Supply Chain Management) 환경에서 B2B 관계 구축에 영향을 미치는 CRM(Customer Relationshio Management)요소들을 밝히는 것이다. 특히 이러한 CRM 요소들이 기업간 권력구조와 관계없이 비즈니스의 모든 영역에서 유의한 효과가 있는지 탐색적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 질적연구방법과 양적연구방법을 병행한 통합적 접근법을 이용하여 탐색적 연구가 진행되었다. 패션기업에 근무하는 전문가 5명을 대상으로 하여 심층면접을 실시하였으며 이를 통해 연구모형을 구성하였다. 그리고 설문지를 통하여 이러한 모델을 실증적으로 검증하기 위한 양적연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 패션기업 간 거래유형에 따라 장기지향적 관계/충성도, 전환 비용에 영향을 미치는 CRM의 모형이 구성되었다. 둘째, 구성된 연구모형을 양적으로 검증한 결과 변수 간 인과관계는 부분적으로 지지되었다. 구체적으로 기업간 관계구축에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 CRM요인은 매출보장과 특별할인이었다. 또한 고객화된 제품과 품질, 편의성, 경쟁력 있는 가격, 제품/시스템/서비스 개발과 같은 요소들이 관계 구축 및 전환비용 상승에 영향을 미칠 것으로 나타났다.

IoT 기술이 공급사슬관리에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of the IoT Technology on SCM)

  • In order to maximize profitability by optimizing the entire supply chain process, enterprises have made efforts to apply IT technologies such as POS, MES, and TMS. In addition, academic societies have also made efforts to verify the effects of IT technology introduction through various researches. However, until now, there is almost no research that analyzes the relationship between the IoT, a new IT technology, and the SCM. To study the effect of IoT technology on SCM, this study conducted professional Delphi surveys for three times. Through this method, this study analyzed changes that will be caused by the IoT technology, the priority area in IoT introduction, and the expected difficulty in IoT introduction on SCM. As a result of the Delphi surveys and analyses, it was expected that when IoT technology is introduced, the level of SCM's IT use and partnership will increase. However, the effect of the increased performance of the supply chain, which includes inventory management and quality control, will become weaker. The reason is that the development of operation and management skills, as well as the improvement of IT technology, are also important elements for the performance improvement of the supply chain. As for the priority area in IoT introduction, it was expected that the effect will be greater when IoT is introduced in customer service, transportation, and delivery areas. As difficulties in IoT technology introduction, such as the shortage of IoT platform development personnel, standardization, integration with the existing system, securing professional manpower, expenses, data management, and operation, were derived, it has thus become necessary for us to exert greater efforts in order to come up with solutions.

공급사슬관리에 의한 동북아 거점항만전략의 적합성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fitness of Korea's Hub-Port Strategy in Northeast Asia by SCM)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 우리 항만이 동북아 거점항만으로 변신하는데 필요한 항만공급사슬전략을 도출하여 거점항만으로의 발전전략의 적합성을 분석하였다. 경쟁항만의 발전 잠재력을 충분히 고려하고 우리 항만의 시설${\cdot}$서비스수준의 미흡성을 하루속히 보완하는 유연한 항만 공급능력의 확보, 항만리드타임(접안시간, 양하역시간 등)의 최소화와 뭍류서비스를 극대화${\cdot}$다양화할 수 있는 모듈방식의 항만운영의 다양화가 필요함을 검증하였다. 특히, 거점항만 개발전략에서 다양한 부가서비스의 제공과 실질적인 부가가치를 창출할 수 있는 방향으로 항만배후부지 개발이 매우 중요한 것으로 나타나고 있다.

물류정보동기화 기반의 Smart SCM 모델에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Logistics Information Synchronization based Smart SCM Model)

  • 최근들어 RFID 기반의 SCM에 대한 연구는 많이 진행되고 있다. 그러나 공급망상에서 이동중인 물류정보의 오류를 동기화하고, 장치기반 인프라의 상태정보를 모니터링하여 활성화해주는 연구와 기술은 아직 미흡하다. 또한 이를 응용하여 통합관제해주는 지능형 SCM 시스템을 개발한 경우는 없었다. "물류정보동기화 기반의 Smart SCM 모델"은 실시간으로 각 물류 거점에 설치된 RFID 인프라 장치 및 물류 프로세스 동기화 현황을 하나의 통합된 뷰를 통하여 모니터링하고, 예외상황 발생시에 다양한 의사결정 지원정보 제공을 통해 즉각적인 상황 조치가 가능한 지능형 공급망 통합관제 서비스 모델이다. 본 연구 모델은 물류국제 표준, RFID관련 국제 표준 규격, EPCIS 표준, SSI 미들웨어 플랫폼을 준용하여 표준화 하므로써 관련 기술 국내 표준 규격을 제시하고자 하였다.
