  • Linux cluster Server makes a high performance PC cluster system, and provides scalablity and availability as compared with an expensive single server. In this paper, we design and implement a VOD streaming service system to serve video and audio streaming services on the Linux cluster server. Our Streaming server supports the MS Window Media Format based on the RTSP streaming protocol.

  • In this paper, we consider issues related to the autonomous management of a server cluster Server clustering technique is widely used for high available Internet servers such as a web server, because it provides very scalable and reliable service. However, it is very burden-some to manage the cluster system. For instance, installation or configuration of a new node requires skilled administrators. Also, when a node is failed, it should be recognized and recovered by a human. The management complexity gets higher while increasing the number of machines for higher throughput. Here, we are going to alleviate the management complexity by building an autonomous cluster server with Jini $_{TM}$ technology from Sun Microsystems.

  • In this paper, we propose to new dispatcher method, which doesn't depend on an operating system of the server, and the direct routing method, by which a server answers a client's request at first hand. And, propose new web clustering scheme based on the contents on the web where web servers composed of cluster, with each different contents, answer client's request. The other purposes are to reduce overhead of the dispatcher through load balance, and to minimize the time to take in responding to a client's request. The performance of new web cluster scheme was improved by about 39% than that of the existing RR method. It was identified that the performance of the proposed web cluster method was extraordinary improved comparing with that of the existing RR method as a whole.

  • Although the web is becoming a widely accepted medium, it provides relatively poor performance and low availability. A cluster consists of a collection of interconnected stand-alone computers working together and provides a high-availability solution in application area such as web services or information systems. Web server clusters require a high-availability service with a proactive and practical fault management. However, as the system complexity grows, it is not easy to meet the requirement. Therefore, web server clusters must have self-fault management capability for meeting high-availability requirement. In this paper, we propose high availability web server clusters using self-healing technique with a minimal human intervention. Our experimental results show that a proposed method can be used to improve the availability of web server clusters.

  • The NAVER is based on a cluster of low-cost personal computers. The goal of NAVER is to provide flexible, extensible, scalable and re-configurable framework for the diverse virtual environments especially for Gamsung research experiments. Personal computers are divided into three servers are according to their specific functions: Render Server, Device Server and Control Server. While Device Server contains external modules requiring event-based communication for the integration, Control Server contains external modules requiring synchronous communication every frame. And, the Render Server consists of 5 managers: Scenario Manager, Event Manger, Command Manager, Interaction Manager and Sync Manager. In this paper, we discuss NAVER as effective distributed system and its application to Gamsung experiment.

  • When a company provides new games or games with a small number of users, it is convenient to provide the game service in which those games are placed in a server cluster instead of a separate server for an individual game. This paper proposes a method for placing games in a cluster of servers with the same capacities. The method reduces the load imbalance among servers and minimizes the rejection ratio of user requests. We expect that the proposed method is useful for determining the server operation factors such as the number of servers, the number of games for a server, etc. To our survey, little research has been published on game placement on a cluster of game servers.

  • The growth of the World Wide Web and web-based applications is creating demand for high performance web servers to offer better throughput and shorter user-perceived latency. This demand leads to widely used cluster-based web servers in the Internet infrastructure. Load balancing algorithms play an important role in boosting the performance of cluster web servers. Previous load balancing algorithms suffer a significant performance drop under dynamic and database-driven workloads. We propose an estimation-based load balancing algorithm with admission control for cluster-based web servers. Because it is difficult to accurately determine the load of web servers, we propose an approximate policy. The algorithm classifies requests based on their service times and tracks the number of outstanding requests from each class in each web server node to dynamically estimate each web server load state. The available capacity of each web server is then computed and used for the load balancing and admission control decisions. The implementation results confirm that the proposed scheme improves both the mean response time and the throughput of clusters compared to rival load balancing algorithms and prevents clusters being overloaded even when request rates are beyond the cluster capacity.

  • A server load balancer is used to accept and distribute client requests to one of servers in a wireless internet proxy server cluster. LVS(Linux Virtual Server), a software based server load balancer, can support several load balancing algorithms where client requests are distributed to servers in a round robin way, in a hashing-based way or in a way to assign first to the server with the least number of its concurrent connections to LVS. An improved load balancing algorithm to consider server performance was proposed where they check upper and lower limits of concurrent connection numbers to be allowed within each maximum server performance in advance and apply the static limits to load balancing. However, they do not apply run-time server load information dynamically to load balancing. In this paper, we propose a dynamic load balancing scheme where the load balancer keeps each server CPU load information at run time and assigns a new client request first to the server with the lowest load. Using a cluster consisting of 16 PCs, we performed experiments with static content(image and HTML). Compared to the existing schemes, experimental results show performance improvement in the cases of client requests requiring CPU-intensive processing and a cluster consisting of servers with difference performance.

  • The typical web cluster architecture consists of replicated real servers and a virtual server that routes client requests among the real servers. In this paper, we proposed an efficient dynamic load distribution method with load prediction for the web cluster systems. The virtual server transmit status request message to real servers in other to get load states. However the load states dose not accurate during load distribution, thus the virtual server predict the load status of real servers and assign a request of the client to the minimum loaded real server. The proposed distribution methods works not related to partial breakdown of real servers, thus the system works with high availability. We also show that the proposed distribution method preserve scalable property and improve the throughput through a set of simulations.

  • Recently, explosion of internet user requires fundamental changes on the architecture of Web service system, from single server system to clustered server system, in parallel with the effort for improving the scalability of the single internet server system. But current cluster-based server systems are dedicated to the single application, for example, One-IP server system. One-IP server system has a clustered computing node with the same function and tries to distribute each request based on the If to the clustered node evenly. In this paper, we implemented the more useful application service platform. It works on shared clustered server(back-end server) with an application server(front-end server) for a particular service. An application server provides a particular service at a low load by itself, but as the load increases, it reconfigures itself with one or more available server from the shared cluster and distributes the load on selected server evenly We used PVM for an effective management of the clustered server. We found the implemented application service platform provides more stable and scalable operation characteristics and has remarkable performance improvement on the dynamic load changes.
