A Study on a Model Parameter Compensation Method for Noise-Robust Speech Recognition (잡음환경에서의 음성인식을 위한 모델 파라미터 변환 방식에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we study a model parameter compensation method for noise-robust speech recognition. We study model parameter compensation on a sentence by sentence and no other informations are used. Parallel model combination(PMC), well known as a model parameter compensation algorithm, is implemented and used for a reference of performance comparision. We also propose a modified PMC method which tunes model parameter with an association factor that controls average variability of gaussian mixtures and variability of single gaussian mixture per state for more robust modeling. We obtain a re-estimation solution of environmental variables based on the expectation-maximization(EM) algorithm in the cepstral domain. To evaluate the performance of the model compensation methods, we perform experiments on speaker-independent isolated word recognition. Noise sources used are white gaussian and driving car noise. To get corrupted speech we added noise to clean speech at various signal-to-noise ratio(SNR). We use noise mean and variance modeled by 3 frame noise data. Experimental result of the VTS approach is superior to other methods. The scheme of the zero order VTS approach is similar to the modified PMC method in adapting mean vector only. But, the recognition rate of the Zero order VTS approach is higher than PMC and modified PMC method based on log-normal approximation.

  • In this paper, VTS(Vector Taylor Series) algorithm, which was proposed by Moreno at Carnegie Mellon University in 1996, is analyzed and simulated. VTS is considered to be one of the robust speech recognition techniques where model parameter conversion technique is adapted. To evaluation performance of the VTS algorithm, We used CMN(Cepstral Mean Normalization) technique which is one of the well-known noise processing methods. And the recognition rate is evaluated when white gaussian and street noise are employed as background noise. Also, the simulation result is analyzed in order to be compared with the previous one which was performed by Moreno.

  • This paper addresses the vibration mode shape Measurement technique utilizing a Continuous Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer (CSLDV). The continuous scanning capability is added to the conventional discrete Laser Doppler Vibrometer by reflecting the laser beams on the surface of the object using two oscillating mirrors. The bow scanning resulted from the proposed scanning method is eliminated by feedback control. The velocity output signal from the CSLDV is modulated to give the spatial velocity distribution in terms of coefficients which are obtained from the Fast Fourier Transformation of the time dependent velocity signal. Using the Chebyshev series from, the analysis of the vibration mode shape techniques for straight line scanning and 2 dimensional scanning are presented and discussed.   • The present paper presents a genetic algorithm (GA) to maximize social welfare and perform congestion management by optimally placing and sizing one Thyristor-Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) device in a double-sided auction market. Simulation results, with line flow constraints before and after the compensation, are compared through the Sequential Quadratic Programming SQP method, and are used to analyze the effect of TCSC on the congestion levels of modified IEEE 14-bus and 30-bus test systems. Quadratic, smooth and nonsmooth (with sine components due to valve point loading effect) generator cost curves, and quadratic smooth consumer benefit functions are considered. The main aims of the present study are the inclusion of customer benefit in the social welfare maximization and congestion management objective function, the consideration of nonsmooth generator characteristics, and the optimal locating and sizing of the TCSC using real code-based GA to guarantee fast convergence to the best solution.

  • This paper describes the characteristics of a hybrid supercapacitor module for power quality stabilization. Hybrid supercapacitor is an promising energy storage device that positioned between conventional EDLC and Li-ion battery. A cylindrical 7500F hybrid supercapacitor ($60{\times}138mm$) was assembled by using the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ electrode as an anode and activated carbon as a cathode. Considering the ESR and efficiency has been designed to module with 41.6F 480V design results in 180 series combination. In order to determine the characteristics of the hybrid supercapacitor module for power system, hybrid supercapacitor cells were connected in series with active balancing circuit. As a result of measuring the 50kw UPS, it was discharged at the current of 104A~143A during the discharge in the voltage range of 350V~480V, and the compensation time at discharge was measured to be about 30s. These results can be used to stabilization of power quality by applying hybrid supercapacitor module.

  • Photovoltaic systems normally use a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique to continuously deliver the highest possible power to the load when variations in the insolation and temperature occur. A simple method of tracking the maximum power points (MPPs) and forcing the boost converter system to operate close to these points is presented through deriving small-signal model and transfer function of boost converter. This paper aims at modeling boost converter including equivalent series resistance of input reservoir capacitor by state-space-averaging method. In the future, properly designed controller for compensation will be constructed for maximum photovoltaic power tracking control.

Phase Shift Control for Series Active Voltage Quality Regulators

  • A phase shift algorithm based on the closed-loop control of dc-link voltage implemented on a series active voltage quality regulator (AVQR) is proposed in this paper. To avoid pumping-up the dc-link voltage, a general phase shift compensation strategy is applied. The relationships among the operation variables are discussed in detail, which is very important for guiding the design of both the main circuit and the control system. Then on the basis of an investigation of the dc-link voltage pumping-up from viewpoint of the active power flow, a novel phase shift control method based on the closed-loop of the dc-link voltage is proposed. This method can adjust the phase of the output voltage gradually and automatically according to the dc-link voltage variation without introducing a phase jump. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified through simulations of a single-phase 5kVA prototype and laboratory experiments on both a single-phase 5kVA and a three-phase 15kVA prototype.

  • When solving the problems of electric power quality the converters with high Power factor are useful for the DC arc furnace power supply. In this paper, resonant converters of 50(60) Hz AC to DC arc described, where in each period of network voltage the capacitor and inductor of an oscillatory circuit are switched from series into parallel and vice versa parametrically. The duration of series and parallel connection and also the transformation ratio are dependent on load. Parallel oscillatory circuit restricts the short circuit current. These converters have high power factor from no-load to short-circuit and fit very well to supply are furnaces.

  • This paper presents a single-phase asymmetric half-bridge cascaded multilevel inverter based series active power filter (SAPF) for harmonic voltage compensation. The effect of level number on performance of the proposed SAPF is examined in terms of total harmonic distortion (THD) and system efficiency. Besides, the relationship between the level number and the number of switching device are compared with the other multilevel inverter topologies used in APF applications. The paper is also aimed to demonstrate the capability of the SAPF for compensating harmonic voltages alone, without using a passive power filter (PPF). To obtain the required output voltage, a new switching algorithm is developed. The proposed SAPF with levels of 7, 15 and 31 is used in both simulation and experimental studies and the harmonic voltages of the load connected to the point of common coupling (PCC) is compensated under two different loading conditions. Furthermore, very high system efficiency values such as 98.74% and 96.84% are measured in the experimental studies and all THD values are brought into compliance with the IEEE-519 Standard. As a result, by increasing the level number of the inverter, lower THD values can be obtained even under high harmonic distortion levels while system efficiency almost remains the same.

  • Induction generator is always required reactive power in order to generate a rotating magnetic field as an inductive load. The reactive power must be continuously supplied to the induction generator as well as load of distribution system from the power supply side. So the power factor of the power supply side during the induction generation operation is low. Condenser is installed in order to raise the low power factor of the induction generator. Switching transients occurs when the power supply of the capacitor is turned on in order to ensure the low power factor. When using the reactor in series with the capacitor in order to reduce the influence of switching transient, it can affect the reactive power by the condenser voltage rises. In this study, we analyzed the operating characteristics for power and power factor of induction generator in accordance with the presence or absence of the application of the serial reactors for switching transients reduction of the condenser and the condenser for power factor correction.
