In the elM construction of naval architecture industry, ship hull surface modeling is critical process of design/manufacture process. This paper describes a fairing process of ship waterlines to represent boundary curves which are input data of surface modeling. Among the fairing methods, Sapidis's method and Rong's method are used in sequential to fair the boundary curves. Also it proposed four methods of determining the magnitude of end tangent vector. Among the four end tangents the best one is chosen by comparing with the shape of near curves. An application to the actual ship hull is given as an example.
Steel reinforced concrete is perhaps the most versatile and widely used construction material. The versatility is attributed to mouldability of concrete to any conceivable shape. The inherent property of cracking of concrete is the reason for its low tensile strength and hence the design approach of RCC sections in flexure adopts the cracked section theory where in concrete in tension zone is ignored. Means, modes and methods of exploitation of concrete strength by conceiving shapes other than rectangular whereby ineffective concrete in tension zone is reduced and incorporated in compression zone where it is effective needs consideration. Shape optimization of beams is attempted in this analytical investigation employing Sequential Unconstrained Minimization Technique (SUMT). The results clearly show that trapezoidal beams happen to be less costlier than their rectangular counterparts, their usage needs serious reconsideration by the designers.

In this paper, we presented a method of constructing a multiplier and an inverse element generator over finite field GF(3**m). We proposed the multiplication method using a descending order arithmetics of mod F(X) to perform the multiplication and mod F(X) arithmetics at the same time. The proposed multiplier is composed of following parts. 1) multiplication part, 2) data assortment generation part and 5) multiplication processing part. Also the inverse element generator is constructed with following parts. 1) multiplier, 2) group of output registers Rs, 3) multiplication and cube selection gate Gl, 4) Ri term sequential selection part. 5) cube processing part and 6) descending order mod F(X) generation part. Especially, the proposed multiplier and inverse element generator give regularity, expansibility and modularity of circuit design.
New unsymmetrical trans-stilbenes have been prepared by the sequential coupling reactions of bromobenzenesulfonate with formylarylboronic acids, benzylphosphonates and arylmagnesium bromides and characterized. The nickel-catalyzed reactions of stilbenesulfonates with aryl Grignard reagents produced the corresponding stilbenes via the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of the neopentyloxysulfonyl group by aryl nucleophiles. The great chemoselectivity of the alkyloxysulfonyl group allows the stepwise construction of unsymmetrical trans-stilbenes possessing terphenyl moieties. This procedure appears to be a promising and conceptually straightforward route for the parallel synthesis of various unsymmetrical stilbenes as well as other highly conjugated hydrocarbons.

The purpose of this study is to make a reasonable correction in construction stage through exact prediction of long-time differential column shortening that occurs in the high-rise RC building. For this, a self-developed program adopted PCA code is used to predict differential column shortening with sequential loading process. Using this program, the amount of the different column shortening of Amatapura Apartment in Indonesia is predicted and the effect is analyzed. From the result, the major factor affecting the shortening amount in columns is elastic strain and the effect of shrinkage is very small rather than creep. And maximun differential column shortening is appeared near the middle of the building.
Reactive plans for a box-pushing task of a mobile robot are automatically built up, where sequential action plans are found in a configuration space by A* algorithm for various initial configurations. Then, conjunction of conditions to associate with a same behavior are found by a back tracking algorithm. And corresponding reactive plans are generated. Finally, a clustering technique is applied to identify which reactive plan should be applied for a given perceptual condition. Several simulation results are shown to justify our proposed approach.

A microstrip polarized 8${\times}$2 linear phased array antenna with four 4-bit phase shifters is designed at 10 GHz. The 180$^{\circ}$and 90$^{\circ}$ sections of the phase shifter are of the switched line type, and the rests are of the loaded line type. A 2${\times}$2 sequential sub-array is adopted for a broad axial ratio bandwidth. The construction of the array antenna is of the tile type placing the phase shifters on the same layer containing the feed network. The element spacing is chosen to be 0.45λ$\sub$0/ to exclude the grating lobe. Measurement results show a gain 9.69 dB at broadside and 8.3 dB at the beam-tilt angle of 16$^{\circ}$ by imposing a progressive phase of 90$^{\circ}$.
Truss type structures are attractive to a variety of engineering applications on earth as well as in space due to their high stiffness to mass ratios and ease of construction and fabrication. During the service life, an individual member of a truss structure may lose load carrying capacity due to many reasons, which may lead to collapse of the structure. An analytical and computational procedure has been developed to study the response of truss structures subject to member failure under static and dynamic loadings. Emphasis is given to the dynamic effects of member failure and the propagation of local damage to other parts of the structure. The methodology developed is based on nonlinear finite element analysis technique and considers elasto-plastic material nonlinearity, postbuckling of members, and large deformation geometric nonlinearity. The pseudo force approach is used to represent the member failure. Results obtained for a planar nine-bay indeterminate truss undergoing sequential member failure show that failure of one member can initiate failure of several members in the structure.
When a new manufacturing line is constructed, its production capacity can be substantially affected in its design stage. Computer simulation often provides better design by evaluating feasible alternatives. In this paper we study an automobile engine manufacturing line which is under construction. Three alternatives are considered in the design; (1) to use machining tools of longer life; (2) to reassign the buffer space to each sequential processes while maintaining the same total buffer length; and (3) to reduce the machine repair time to 30 minutes using TPM and maintenance team. Simulation results using AutoMod indicates that employing the three alternatives will save about 1.5 million dollars per year.
An algorithm for the state estimation and identification of multivariable nonlinear systems with noisy nonlinear observation has been investigated on the basis of the multidimensional Hermitian expansion for the a posteriori probability densities of the predicted observation, the predicted state and the observation conditioned by the state. A new approach for construction of this sequential nonlinear estimator, retaining up to the second order term of the observation error, has been developed, along with the approximation of nonlinear system functions, truncating at the second term. The estimation of the unknown parameters has been established by extending the state estimation technique, regarding the parameters as another state variables. The results of investigation indicate the feasibility of the schemes presented in this paper.
