  • The present study is focused on the small scale turbulent mixing processes in the scalar field. In order to deal with molecular mixing in turbulent flow, the linear eddy model is addressed. In each realization, the molecular mixing term is implemented deterministically, and turbulent stirring is represented by a sequence of instantaneous, statistically independent rearrangement event called by triplet map. The LEM approach is applied with relatively simple conditions. The characteristics of scalar mixing and PDF profiles are addressed in detail.

  • We propose nonlinear processing schemes for robust acquisition of direct-sequence spread spectrum (DS/SS) signals in wideband pulse jamming. To mitigate the interference effect due to impulse-like wideband jamming signals, the received signal is preprocessed by using the median filter, a simple order statistic filter Since only parts of the PN sequence are used for rapid acquisition, it is indispensable for analytic design of an acquisition scheme to have an appropriate model of the partial PN signal. The partial correlation of the median filtered PN signal is approximated by a two-piecewise linear model using an approximate upper bound. The acquisition performance of the proposed schemes is compared to that of other schemes. Finally, the analytic design is verified by computer simulation.

  • A novel method for extracting frequency slippage signal from radar full pulse sequence is presented. For the radar full pulse sequence received by radar interception receiver, radio frequency (RF) and time of arrival (TOA) of all pulses constitute a two-dimensional information sequence. In a complex and intensive electromagnetic environment, the TOA of pulses is distributed unevenly, randomly, and in a nonstationary manner, preventing existing methods from directly analyzing such time series and effectively extracting certain signal features. This work applies Gaussian noise insertion and structure function to the TOA-RF information sequence respectively such that the equalization of time intervals and correlation processing are accomplished. The components with different frequencies in structure function series are separated using empirical mode decomposition. Additionally, a chaos detection model based on the Duffing equation is introduced to determine the useful component and extract the changing features of RF. Experimental results indicate that the proposed methodology can successfully extract the slippage signal effectively in the case that multiple radar pulse sequences overlap.

  • Under the context of Stein's linear theory of stellar models, the luminosity-effective temperature relationship is derived for contracting pre-main sequence stars which are losing mass, according to the empirical formula, given by Reimers (1975). The effects of mass loss on their evolution are investigated by calculating evolutionary tracks of 1. $1.5M_{\odot}$, $5M_{\odot}$, and $10M_{\odot}$, stars. Our calculations reveal that the effects of mass loss show up in the radiative equilibrium stage of the evolution. It is found that an increase of mass loss rate leads to delay the onset of radiative equilibrium, thus resulting in under-luminous main sequence stars. It is also noted that the mass loss prolongs the pre-main sequence life time. Detailed results of the calculations are discussed.

  • In this research, the single machine capacitated lot-sizing and scheduling problem with sequence- dependent setup costs and setup times (CLSPSD) is considered. This problem is the extension of capacitated lot-sizing and scheduling problem (CLSP) with an additional assumption on sequence-dependent setup costs and setup times. The objective of the problem is minimizing the sum of production costs, inventory holding costs and setup costs satisfying customers' demands. It is known that the CLSPSD is NP-hard. In this paper, the MIP formulation is presented. To handle the problem more efficiently, a conceptual model is suggested, and one of the well-known meta-heuristics, the simulated annealing approach is applied. To illustrate the performance of this approach, various instances are tested and the results of this algorithm are compared with those of the CLPEX. Computational results show that this approach generates optimal or nearly optimal solutions.

  • RNA molecules which bind to the G-rich sequence in the 5'-UTR RNA which plays an important role in expression of N-ras, were selected. The secondary structures of five selected RNA aptamers including primer sequence were found by the CLC RNA workbench ver. 4.2 program (www.clcbio.com) and investigated with RNA structural probes such as RNase T1 which has specificity for a G in single-stranded region, RNase V1 specific for double strand and nuclease S1 specific for single strand. The generalized secondary structure model was proposed and characterized. It was composed of a central long double strand region flanked by single strand region at both end sides. The double strand region had an internal single-strand region and bulges. The single strand loop in the right side was composed of four or five nucleotides.

  • A novel mixed-integer linear programming model for the short-term scheduling of a sequential multipurpose batch plant is addressed. First, a time slot domain to each unit is introduced. By assigning each time slot to a product, we obtain the production sequence that minimizes makespan. For multiple-unit assignment problem where a few parallel units with the same function exist, production paths are defined for the distinction of the same stage with a different unit. As a second issue, the model adapted for sequence dependent changeover is presented. For a time slot of a unit, if a product is assigned to the time slot and a different product is assigned to the adjacent time slot, the changeover time considering this situation is included. The performance of the proposed models are illustrated through two examples.

  • In a multi-sensor target tracking systems, the local sensors have the role of tracking the target and transferring the measurements to the fusion center. The measurements from the same target can arrive out of sequence called, the out-of-sequence measurements(OOSMs). The OOSM can arise in a form of single-lag or multi-lag throughout the transfer at the fusion center. The recursive retrodiction step was proposed to update the current state estimates with the multi-lag OOSM from the several previous papers. The real world has the possible situations that the maneuvering target informations can arrive at the fusion center with the random clutter in the possible OOSMs. In this paper, we incorporate the IMM-MPDA(Interacting Multiple Model - Most Probable Data Association) into the multi-lag OOSM update. The performance of the IMM-MPDA filter with multi-lag OOSM update is analyzed for the various clutter densities, OOSM lag numbers, and target maneuvering indexes. Simulation results show that IMM-MPDA is sufficient to be used in out of sequence environment and it is necessary to correct the current state estimates with OOSM except a very old OOSM.

  • This paper considers a unrelated parallel machine scheduling problem with ready times, due times and sequence and machine-dependent setup times. The objective of this problem is to determine the allocation of jobs and the scheduling of machines to minimize the total tardy time. A mathematical model for optimal solution is derived. An in-depth analysis of the model shows that it is very complicated and difficult to obtain optimal solutions as the problem size becomes large. Therefore, a genetic algorithm using an effective dispatching method is proposed. The performance of the proposed genetic algorithm is evaluated using several randomly generated examples.

  • This paper considers a non-identical parallel machine scheduling problem with sequence and machine dependent setup times. The objective of this problem is to determine the allocation of jobs and the scheduling of each machine to minimize makespan. A mathematical model for optimal solution is derived. An in-depth analysis of the model shows that it is very complicated and difficult to obtain optimal solutions as the problem size becomes large. Therefore, two meta-heuristics, genetic algorithm (GA) and a new population-based evolutionary meta-heuristic called self-evolution algorithm (SEA), are proposed. The performances of the meta-heuristic algorithms are evaluated through compare with optimal solutions using randomly generated several examples.
