  • A method has been described for the chemical speciation, preconcentration and determination of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) species in filtered tannery waste waters by flame atomic absorption spectrometry using ion-exchange resins. Amberlite IR-120($H^+$) strongly acidic cation exchanger and Amberlite IRA-410($CI ^-$) strongly basic anion exchanger resins were used for the separation and preconcentration of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) species, respectively. Optimum condition for preconcentration and speciation was obtained by testing pH of sample and eluent, flow rates of sample and eluent, amount of resins, volume of sample and eluents, and effect of foreign ions. The recommended method has been successfully applied for the preconcentration and determination of chromium species in the dissolved phase of waste water samples collected from a tannery waste water treatment plant in Kayseri, Turkey. The detection limits achieved were 0.73 $\mu$g/L for Cr(III) and 0.81 $\mu$g/L for Cr(VI). Recovery studies showed 99% for Cr(III) and 98% for Cr(VI), for samples spiked with single species.

  • We studied the effects of post-annealing treatment on poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT, donor):[6,6]-phenyl $C_{61}$ butyric acid methyl ester(PCBM, acceptor) blend film as an active layer in the organic solar cells(OSCs). For the formation of the active layer, 3 wt.% P3HT:PCBM solution in chlorobenzene were deposited by spin-coating method. In order to optimize the performance of OSCs, the P3HT crystallization and the redistribution of PCBM cluster at P3HT:PCBM composition as a function of post-annealing condition from room temperature to $200^{\circ}C$ were measured by the Hall effect and the UV-vis Spectrophotometer. We thought that the improved efficiency in the OSCs with post-annealing treatment at $150^{\circ}C$ can be explained by the efficient separation or collection of the photogenerated excitons at donor-acceptor interface by P3HT crystallization.

  • In this paper, through a series of comparative experiments, effects of two different cure processing methods, cocure and precure, on the mechanical properties of honeycomb core materials for aircraft applications are considered. Mass of moisture accumulated into the closed cells of the sandwich panel specimen from the measured mass of moisture diffused to the full saturation state into the elements(skin, adhesive layer, Nomex honeycomb), consisting the honeycomb sandwich specimen has been calculated. Water reservoir of 70$\^{C}$ was used to have specimens absorb moisture to see the influence of moisture absorbed into sandwich panel on its mechanical properties. For the repair condition holding for 2 hours at 177$\^{C}$(350℉) temperature, a pressure due to the vapor expansion in each cell of the sandwich panel, which may result in the local separation of the interface between laminated skin and the surface of the honeycomb, has been estimated by vapor pressure-temperature relation from the thermodynamic steam table and compared to the pressure from the ideal gas state equation. The bonding strengths of the laminated skins on the flat surface of the Nomex honeycomb have been compared by the flatwise tension test and climbing drum peel test performed at room temperature for dry, wet and wet-repair specimens, respectively.

  • Quantitative analytical condition for nickel in ceramic, metal and plastic materials using complexation and solvent extraction followed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) was studied. Ceramic, metal and plastic samples were dissolved by acid digestion. Nickel was determined by ICP-AES and AAS after extraction of Ni $(DMG)_2$ in $CHCl_3$. Recovery efficiency of nickel was satisfactory, and most of matrix elements causing interference could be effectively eliminated by the separation. Nickel in the certified reference materials (BAM-376 and PACS-2) were quantitatively determined without influence of sample matrix.

  • To make up the medium for quantitative selection of capacitated-sperm through sucrose layer, the effects of BSA, caffeine, heparin and progesterone on sperm swim-up migration and movement were examined. And the results obtained were as follows; 1. BSA of 4mg/ml in bMSS stimulated sperm migration and movement, and attracted capacitated-sperm. 2. Caffeine of 5mM in bMSS containing 4mg/ml BSA stimulated sperm movement and attracted capacitated-sperm. 3. Heparin of 20$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml in bMAA containing both 4mg/ml BSA and 5mM caffeine stimulated movement and capacitation of sperm. 4. Progesterone of 50$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml in bMSS containing all 4mg/ml BSA, 5mM caffeine and 20$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml heparin (BCHP-MSS) attracted capacitated-sperm. 5. Effect of BCHP-MSS on sperm on sperm attraction was not different from effect of 10% follicular fluid solution (FF-MSS) on sperm swim-up separation. In conclusion, bMSS with 4mg/ml BSA, 5mM caffeine, 20$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml heparin and 50$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml progesterone(BCHP-MSS) was a optimal condition for selection of capacitated-sperm through sucrose layer.

  • In this study, we propose a method of optimal placement technique of artificial reef considering characteristics of sea areas and provide basic data for efficient budget execution. In addition, we will contribute to increasing the economic efficiency by improving the fisheries productivity by suggesting the scientific basis for the policy data and the increase of the catch through the resource creation based on the ecological information about the biology. Especially, in order to establish the effective disposition (optimum separation distance) of artificial reef considering characteristics of biological and engineering factors, it is necessary to review the artificial reef installation management regulations and investigate the biological effects of artificial reef facilities, is needed. Through this, it is expected that the ground data of the direction of the policy promotion will be derived by suggesting the placement condition of the artificial reef complex which can maximize the resource composition effect according to the target fish species.

  • Effect of various dosages of gamma ray ranging from 0 to 16 krad on wound periderm formation was investigated with aging potato tuber slices $(1cm{\times}2mm)$ under aseptic condition. Cell division was gradually inhibited with increasing dosage, and completely prevented with 16 krad treatment. Solanine content was not significantly different due to dosages. Gas chromatographic separation of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone precipitate from radiation-induced carbonyl compounds in potato tubers showed that formaldehyde and acetone tended to be increased only with high dosages.

  • In this study, quantitative analysis for the quality evaluation of Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix using HPLC/UV was developed. For quantitative analysis, six major bioactive compounds were determined. The separation conditions employed for HPLC/UV were optimized using ODS $C_{18}$ column ($250{\times}4.6\;mm$, $5\;{\mu}m$) with gradient condition of A (1% formic acid in $H_2O$) and B (acetonitrile : methanol : formic acid = 100 : 75 : 1) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and a detection wavelength of 280 nm. These methods were fully validated with respect to the linearity, accuracy, precision and recovery. The HPLC/UV method was applied successfully to the quantification of six major compounds in the Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix. The results indicate that the established HPLC/UV method is suitable for the quantitative analysis.

  • A peritoneal loose body is reported to develop because of torsion and separation of the epiploic appendages. The condition is usually symptomless and may be incidentally during abdominal surgery or autopsy. It usually occurs in middle-aged and elderly adults and is very rare in children. In this paper, we report a case of a peritoneal loose body in the pelvic cavity of a 10-year old-girl who presented with urinary frequency and left lower abdominal discomfort. A second plain X-ray film of the abdomen, obtained before surgery, in a different view than the first, revealed that the calcified mass had migrated to a lower position. The mass was laparoscopically resected, and histological examination revealed it to be a fibrotic nodule with central liquefaction and calcification.
