After the missile is launched, the umbilical connector should be separated from it without any physical interference. The umbilical separation device, for this purpose, was developed by means of new concept. Using the investigation of various methods to separate the umbilical connector, a suitable method was selected and a corresponding device was designed and manufactured. To ensure the performance of the developed device, numerical analysis and performance test were conducted and correction was followed. The umbilical separation device was applied to real system operation test and its operation performance was tested. In consequence, several problems were founded, however, good results were generally obtained.

The non-explosive release device using jack mechanism is designed and fabricated for the small satellite. As a triggering actuator for the release device, a piezo rotory motor with torque of more than $1.7kgf{\cdot}cm$ is employed to guarantee stable activation. For performance tests of separation device, we conducted release time test, preload test and shock test. The device was operated within 1.172sec and activated stably under load of 45kgf. Maximum shock was measured as 18G that is much less than the pyro-separation device produces. We confirmed the possibility as a satellite separation device through above presented tests.
In this work, a dielectrophoresis-based particle-separation device is developed which is to be used to continuously separate particles in microchannels. We fabricated the particle-separation device with combining the benefits of electrode-based DEP and insulator-based DEP. The DEP forces are generated by an array of electrodes located in both sidewalls of a main channel. According to the magnitude and frequency of electrical signals, particles with different dielectric properties experience different DEP forces, and therefore, continuously move along different streamlines in the main flow channel without need of pre-focusing process. Based on this mechanism, we examined the performance of the device by controlling the trajectory of polystyrene particles. This device is applicable to the investigation of dielectric properties of biological cells as well as the continuous separation of biological cells.

This paper describes development of a non-explosive separation device which can be equipped on small satellites. The spur geared micro DC motor, which has high reliability and advantage of price, is adopted as an actuator. The proposed separation device has resettability and it does not need extra jig to reload. In addition, the simple structure makes it easy to fabricate and assemble. To verify the performance of the proposed device, the response time tests, maximum preload tests and maximum shock level tests were performed. Also, through the vibration tests and thermal vacuum tests, feasibility of the proposed separation device was shown in launching and space environments. Therefore, we expect that the proposed separation device can replace the imported separation devices in near future.

A bulkhead-type pulse separation device has been developed for the multi-pulse rocket motor. The design parameters of the pulse separation device were the shape of the rupture disc slit, welding conditions, and the implementation of the seal disc. The pneumatic tests of the fabricated pulse separation devices showed that the rupture pressure increased as the quantity of the rupture disc slit and welding strength increased and the seal disc was implemented.

In this paper, we report a non-explosive separation device for a small satellite which utilize a shape memory alloy actuator. Based on previous research, we try to increase the reliability of the proposed device by changing some components. It enables the proposed device to activate under high preload. Also, we confirm it generates low shock which is main advantage of non-explosive separation device. Finally, vibration test which mimics launching environment and thermal vacuum test which mimics space environment are carried out respectively. After each environment test, we confirm the proposed device is successfully activated. Conclusively, we develop a non-explosive separation device which can activate with low shock under high preload after shock and environment tests(vibration and thermal vacuum tests).

This paper is related radio interference from inductive system to radio device in home and industrial environment according to increasing the usage of inductive system. In order to analyze interference from magnetic field strength of inductive system, interference model was suggested and explain the method to calculate separation distance by using conversion that from magnetic field strength to magnetic dipole moment based on suggested interference model. Also, scenario that interference occur between inductive system and radio device was shown and the separation distance between inductive system and radio device was calculate with that scenario. The suggested method in this paper will be used to secure the compatibility between inductive system and radio device.
In this paper, we report a non-explosive separation device for a small satellite which utilize a shape memory alloy actuator and spring clamp. In order to increase the preload, the proposed device employs spring clamp that can generate high toque when the shape memory alloy actuator makes the cylinder key unlatch a holding ball effectively. Owing to simple design of separation device configuration, we could obtain good repeatability(up to 30 times activation). Conclusively, we could develop a non-explosive separation device which can reliably activate within 1.2 sec under high preload(up to 300kgf).

It's possible for a human to breathe under water, but the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water is small and a large amount of water is necessary to obtain sufficient dissolved oxygen from water. So, large separation system with large water pumps, having large surface areas, and large battery sources are needed. Exhalation gases are used to solve this problem. Theses gases contain some oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide; they contain less oxygen and more carbon dioxide compared to air. Therefore, reduction of the amount of carbon dioxide is necessary. If exhalation gases are employed appropriately, the separation device can be made more compact. Inlet water mixed with exhalation gases is supplied into the separation device, and dissolved gases are separated from the mixed water as it passes through the device. The inlet part of a typical separation system with a water delivery pump before the membrane module has more than one atmosphere. Hence, a compressor is used to mix the exhalation gases. In this study, the pressure at the inlet due to the use of a suction pump after the membrane module was less than one atmosphere; hence, compressors were not required. Separation characteristics were studied using a separation device without a compressor. The use of exhalation gases led to an increase in the amount of dissolved gases being separated. As the amount of inlet exhalation gases was increased, the separation of dissolved gases was increased as well.
To modernize the conventional rice post production technology and reduce grain losses, a transition toward the wet-paddy threshing system has been strongly demanded. The head-feeding type thresher with pneumatic separation has been used dominantly for threshing dried-paddy, but some adverse effects in separation performance for threshing wet-paddy is encounterred. In order to solve the problems, the development of thresher with an additional oscillating sieve to the conventional pneumatic separation has been recommanded. This study was intended to evaluate the separating performance of thresher with oscillating sieve which was attached additionally to the conventional auto-thresher equipped with separation system of blower and suction fan. For different feed rates and rice varieties, wet-and dry-material were tested with threshers attached with and without oscillating sieve. Results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. When the feed rates were 480 and 640 kg/hr, there was no statistically significant difference in power reqirements between the threshers with and without an additional sieve device for both dry-and wet-threshing. However, when the feed rate was 960 kg/hr, power requirements of thresher without sieve were greater for wet-paddy threshing than the thresher with the additional sieve separator by about 20% points. 2. With additional oscillating sieve device, the ratios of total weights of whole grains including grains with branch let and damaged grains to the total output did not show statistical difference among the feed rates. However, with pneumatic separation the ratio was decreased as the level of feed rate increased. 3. The total amount of grains with branchlet (including broken panicle) increased with the moisture content. For both the wet-and dry-material threshing with the additional oscillating sieve, the percent of grains with branchlet to the total output decreased greatly as the feed rate increased. 4. The output of the damaged grains increased as moisture content decreased. Especially, for the dry-paddy threshing, the additional sieve separating device produced more damaged grains than the pneumatic separation at all feed rates. 5. Generally, for dry paddy threshing, the separating performance of the thresher with the additional sieve device was better at all feed rates, showing greater difference with increasing feed rates. 6. Separating losses were greater with the pneumatic than sieve separation for both the wet-and dry-threshing. 7. The overall comparison of separating performance of threshers tested with and without an additional sieve device showed that the former was more effective than the latter for the dry-material threshing. However, for the wet-paddy threshing, the separation performance with a sieve device was better than the pneumatic only when the feed rate was high.
