A Low Dark Current CMOS Image Sensor Pixel with a Photodiode Structure Enclosed by P-well

  • A low dark current CMOS image sensor (CIS) pixel without any process modification is developed. Dark current is mainly generated at the interface region of shallow trench isolation (STI) structure. Proposed pixel reduces the dark current effectively by separating the STI region from the photodiode junction using simple layout modification. Test sensor array that has both proposed and conventional pixels is fabricated using 0.18 m CMOS process and the characteristics of the sensor are measured. The result shows that the dark current of the proposed pixel is 0.93fA/pixel that is two times lower than the conventional design.

A methodology for spatial distribution of grain and voids in self compacting concrete using digital image processing methods

  • Digital image processing algorithms for the analysis and characterization of grains and voids in cemented materials were developed using toolbox functions of a mathematical software package. Utilization of grayscale, color and watershed segmentation algorithms and their performances were demonstrated on artificially prepared self-compacting concrete (SCC) samples. It has been found that color segmentation was more advantageous over the gray scale segmentation for the detection of voids whereas the latter method provided satisfying results for the aggregate grains due to the sharp contrast between their colors and the cohesive matrix. The watershed segmentation method, on the other hand, appeared to be very efficient while separating touching objects in digital images.

Location-Based Saliency Maps from a Fully Connected Layer using Multi-Shapes

  • Recently, with the development of technology, computer vision research based on the human visual system has been actively conducted. Saliency maps have been used to highlight areas that are visually interesting within the image, but they can suffer from low performance due to external factors, such as an indistinct background or light source. In this study, existing color, brightness, and contrast feature maps are subjected to multiple shape and orientation filters and then connected to a fully connected layer to determine pixel intensities within the image based on location-based weights. The proposed method demonstrates better performance in separating the background from the area of interest in terms of color and brightness in the presence of external elements and noise. Location-based weight normalization is also effective in removing pixels with high intensity that are outside of the image or in non-interest regions. Our proposed method also demonstrates that multi-filter normalization can be processed faster using parallel processing.

  • Magnetic resonance imaging is a technique specialized in soft tissue imaging with high contrast resolution without in vivo ionization and has been widely used in various clinical settings. In particular, the recent increase in social stress factors has been used in the diagnosis of pituitary adenoma, the incidence increases rapidly. Recently, due to the development of magnetic resonance imaging, it is possible to diagnose micro pituitary adenoma, but despite the use of contrast medium, there has been a difficulty in diagnosing the pituitary adenoma due to its small size and noise. In order to solve this problem, a proposed method of separating signal components image and noise components image from a measured image is applied, and the improvement of diagnostic efficiency is attempted by removing noise. As a result, it was confirmed that the image quality was improved as a whole by applying SNR for 30 subjects data. It is expected that this study will be useful as a pre-processing method for improving the image quality and developing diagnostic indicators of pituitary adenoma.

  • In this paper we demonstrate the effect of sparse decomposition on various Independent Component Analysis (ICA) algorithms for separating simultaneous linear mixture of independent 2-D signals (images). We will show using simulated results that sparse decomposition before Kernel ICA (Sparse Kernel ICA) algorithm produces the best results as compared to other ICA algorithms.

  • Independent component analysis (ICA) is a method separating the mixture of signals into statistically and mutually independent ones. It has been applied to not only the Cocktail-party problem but also EEG analysis using the EEG waveform, digital signal processing, image processing and cognitive technique field actively. This study aims to propose a procedure to estimate the modal responses and mode shapes of a floating structure by using the ICA method from measured responses of the floating structure.

왜곡 영상을 위한 효과적인 최소-최대 유사도(Min-Max Similarity) 기반의 영상 정합 알고리즘 (An Efficient Image Matching Scheme Based on Min-Max Similarity for Distorted Images)

  • Educational books commonly use some copyrighted images with various kinds of deformation for helping students understanding. When using several copyrighted images made by merging or editing distortion in legal, we need to pay a charge to original copyright holders for each image. In this paper, we propose an efficient matching algorithm by separating each copyrighted image with the merged and edited type including rotation, illumination change, and change of size. We use the Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF (ORB) method as a basic feature matching scheme. To improve the matching accuracy, we design a new MIN-MAX similarity in matching stage. With the distorted dataset, the proposed method shows up-to 97% of precision in experiments. Also, we demonstrate that the proposed similarity measure also outperforms compared to other measure which is commonly used.

  • Previous studies on image processing techniques for panicle size measurement usually have focused on a single panicle or weakly overlapped particles. In the present work, the image processing algorithm for particle size measurement has been improved to process heavily-overlapped spherical-particle images. The algorithm consists of two steps; detection of boundaries which separate the images of the overlapped panicles from the background and the panicle identification process. For the first step, Sobel operator (using gray-level gradient) and the thinning process was adopted, and compared with the gray-level thresholding method that has been widely adopted. In the second, Hough transform was used. Hough transform is the detection algorithm of parametric curves such as straight lines or circles which can be described by several parameters. To reduce the measurement error, the process of finding the true center was added. The improved algorithm was tested by processing an image frame which contains heavily overlapped spherical panicles. The results showed that both the performances of detecting the overlapped images and separating the panicle from them were improved.

  • 본 논문에서는 얼굴을 검출하기 위해서 컬러영상에서 눈동자 템플릿을 사용한 얼굴을 검출하는 방법에 관해 제안하였다. 전체 시스템의 구성은 크게 피부색 모델에 의한 피부 영역을 검출하고 검출된 피부 영역에 타원을 적용하여 얼굴영역을 찾은 뒤 템플릿을 사용하여 눈동자를 추출하여 정규화 된 얼굴을 검출하는 단계로 이루어 졌다. 특히 타원을 적용할 때와 눈동자 템플릿을 적용할 때는 모멘트를 사용하였으며, 눈동자를 추출할 때 벡터를 기반으로 하기 때문에 사이즈에 제한 없이 자유로운 변형이 가능할 뿐만 아니라 눈동자 템플릿을 사용하면 눈동자의 위치와 크기를 동시에 얻어 낼 수 있었다. 마지막으로 이렇게 검출된 얼굴을 기울어진 각도만큼 회전시켜 정규화 된 얼굴을 검출 할 수 있었다.

Japanese Puzzle을 이용한 교통안전 표지판 인식 (A Recognition of Traffic Safety Signs Using Japanese Puzzle)

  • 본 논문에서는 게임에 사용되는 원리를 역으로 이용하여 교통안전 표지판을 인식하는 시스템을 구현하였다. 본 시스템에 사용된 게임은 제작자가 (x, y)좌표에 제공하는 수치를 보고 메쉬에 표시하면 제작자가 의도한 임의의 물체의 모형이 표현되는 게임이다. 입력된 영상으로부터 교통안전 표지판 영상을 분리한 후, 표지판을 구성하는 색상과 형태에 상기의 퍼즐게임을 이용하여 교통안전 표지판으로 인식되면 해당 표지판과 내용을 문자로 출력하는 시스템을 구현하였으며 흑백 영상 처리 및 세선화과정 없는 인식으로 처리 속도가 빠르며, 기존 시스템 보다 좋은 인식률을 얻을 수 있었다.
