This Paper Presents an information about the heat transfer characteristics of a separate type thermosyphon in electronic equipments. The heat removal problem of electronic equipments is regarded as an important factor and a separate type heatpipes can be utilized as a cooling device of electronic equipments (such as CPU of a Personal computer or notebook). In this study. heat source ($50\times50\times2 mm $aluminum Pseudo CPU) was used for the experiment. The device can transfer heat from the evaporator to the condenser through natural circulation (without any external driving forces) and the results indicate that the device is capable of dissipating over 60W of thermal energy and keeping the heating plate surface temperature under $50^{\circ}C$.
The passive auxiliary feedwater system (PAFS) is one of the advanced safety features adopted in the APR+, which is intended to completely replace the conventional active auxiliary feedwater system. With an aim of validating the cooling and operational performance of PAFS, an experimental program is in progress at KAERI, which is composed of two kinds of tests; the separate effect test and the integral effect test. The separate effect test, PASCAL ($\underline{P}$AF$\underline{S}$$\underline{C}$ondensing Heat Removal $\underline{A}$ssessment $\underline{L}$oop), is being performed to experimentally investigate the condensation heat transfer and natural convection phenomena in PAFS. A single, nearly-horizontal U-tube, whose dimensions are the same as the prototypic U-tube of the APR+ PAFS, is simulated in the PASCAL test. The PASCAL experimental result showed that the present design of PAFS satisfied the heat removal requirement for cooling down the reactor core during the anticipated accident transients. The integral effect test is in progress to confirm the operational performance of PAFS, coupled with the reactor coolant systems using the ATLAS facility. As the first integral effect test, an FLB (feedwater line break) accident was simulated for the APR+. From the integral effect test result, it could be concluded that the APR+ has the capability of coping with the hypothetical FLB accident by adopting PAFS and proper set-points of its operation.

SMART100 has a containment pressure and radioactivity suppression system (CPRSS) for passive containment cooling system (PCCS). This prevents overheating and over-pressurization of a containment through direct contact condensation in an in-containment refueling water storage tank (IRWST) and wall condensation in a CPRSS heat exchanger (CHX) in an emergency cool-down tank (ECT). The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) constructed scaled-down test facilities, SISTA1 and SISTA2, for the thermal-hydraulic validation of the SMART100 CPRSS. Three separate effect tests were performed using SISTA1 to confirm the heat removal characteristics of SMART100 CPRSS. When the low mass flux steam with or without non-condensable gas is released into an IRWST, the conditions for mitigation of the chugging phenomenon were identified, and the physical variables were quantified by the 3D reconstruction method. The local behavior of the non-condensable gas was measured after condensation inside heat exchanger using a traverse system. Stratification of non-condensable gas occurred in large tank of the natural circulation loop. SISTA2 was used to simulate a small break loss-of-coolant accident (SBLCOA) transient. Since the test apparatus was a metal tank, compensations of initial heat transfer to the material and effect of heat loss during long-term operation were important for simulating cooling performance of SMART100 CPRSS. The pressure of SMART100 CPRSS was maintained below the design limit for 3 days even under sufficiently conservative conditions of an SBLOCA transient.
Concrete suffers strength loss when subjected to elevated temperatures during an accidental event such as fire. The loss in strength of concrete is mainly attributed to decomposition of C-S-H gel and release of chemically bound water, which begins when the temperature exceeds $500^{\circ}C$. But it is unclear about how much strength loss occurs in different stages of heating, retention and cooling regimes. This work is carried out to separate the total strength loss into losses during different stages of heating, retention and cooling. Tests were carried out on both Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) based concrete and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) blended concrete for $200^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ with a retention period of 1 hour for each of these temperature levels. Furnace cooling was adopted throughout the experiment. This study reports strength loss contribution during heating, retention and cooling regimes for both OPC based and GGBFS based concretes.

Buildings with heating and cooling systems have been increased, since the requirement of thermal comfort for residents is grown. Heating and cooling systems, have been changed from two separate systems to one multi-function system which includes both heating and cooling. Especially, heat pump heating and cooling system has been adopted for general classrooms in schools since education environment improvement project has been launched. This research suggests the best option for the heat pump heating and cooling system in educational buildings through economic assessments for four alternative systems based on electric heat pump (EHP) and gas engine driven heat pump (GHP), which are most widely used for elementary, middle and high schools. The model buildings are in the Y high school which has 24 classes of new construction building, which will be built soon. Annual energy consumption for alternative systems uses BECS 3.10, which can be used for system simulation.
Presently, the VHTGR (Very High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor) is considered the most attractive candidate for a GEN-IV reactor to produce hydrogen, which will be a key resource for future energy production. A new concept for a reactor cavity cooling system (RCCS), a critical safety feature in the VHTGR, is proposed in the present study. The proposed RCCS consists of passive water pool and active air cooling systems. These are employed to overcome the poor cooling capability of the air-cooled RCCS and the complex cavity structures of the water-cooled RCCS. In order to estimate the licensibility of the proposed design, its performance and integrity were tested experimentally with a reduced-scale mock-up facility, as well as with a separate-effect test facility (SET) for the 1/4 water pool of the RCCS-SNU to examine the heat transfer and pressure drop and code capability. This paper presents the test results for SET and validation of MARS-GCR, a system code for the safety analysis of a HTGR. In addition, CFX5.7, a computational fluid dynamics code, was also used for the code-to-code benchmark of MARS-GCR. From the present experimental and numerical studies, the efficacy of MARS-GCR in application to determining the optimal design of complicated systems such as a RCCS and evaluation of their feasibility has been validated.

This study examines he trend in the development of protective clothing for pesticide spraying based on materials with domestic patents and proposes pesticide protection clothing using a cooling blower unit effective for reducing heat stress in pesticide spraying. There was a total of 54 domestic patents on protective clothing related to pesticide spraying, reflecting a sharp increase based on the increasing demand for protective clothing since 2000. Protective clothing with a lower level of heat stress as the core technology accounted for 35.2% of these patents, and recent years have witnessed the increased development of protective clothing supplying cold air to the interior of the clothing through a separate device. However, this may cause some inconvenience in the activity of farmers. Therefore, this study proposes a lightweight cooling blower unit that does not hinder the user's appearance and activity. In the cooling blower unit, contaminated air from outside is purified through a filter and cools down as it passes a cooling device with refrigerant in the copper pipe. This chilled air is supplied to the interior of the clothing through a bidirectional inhaling blower. The proposed protective clothing is an overall with raglan sleeves. Its chill injection site has an area where the most conspicuous change in temperature is selected, and at the back, there is a large pocket for a cooling blower unit.
Growth and flowering of Cymbidium 'Red Fire' and 'Yokihi' plants were examined in a greenhouse with cooling systems in summer, and with night interruption (NI) lighting in winter as a forcing culture system. The greenhouse was divided into two sections with separate cooling controls during the summer season. One section was cooled by a mist system (mist), while the other section was cooled by a shade screen (shade). During the winter, the greenhouse was redivided into three sections within each cooling system. Plants were grown with NI either at a low light intensity of $3-7{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$(LNI) or a high l ight intensity of $120{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$(HNI) u sing h igh-pressure sodium l amps during the 22:00-02:00 HR. The control plants were grown under 9 h short-day condition. NI for 16 weeks and cooling for 9 weeks were employed twice during the 2 years of the experimental period. The air temperature was approximately $2^{\circ}C$ lower in the mist than in the shade and the relative humidity was 80 ${\pm}5%$ in the mist compared to $55{\pm}5%$ in the shade. The daily light integral in the mist section was 48% higher than in the shade section. The time from initial planting to flowering pseudobulb emergence decreased with both LNI and HNI for both cultivars, regardless of the cooling treatments. Under NI conditions, however, between 60% and 1 00% of plants of both cultivars flowered in the mist, whereas no or 20% of 'Red Fire' or 'Yokihi' plants, respectively, flowered in the shade treatment over 2 years. Plants grown under the mist had bigger pseudobulbs than those grown in the shade under both NI treatments. These results show that commercial use of NI in winter and a mist cooling system in summer would decrease crop production time to 2 years and increase profits in Cymbidium forcing culture.

A separate type rotary engine consisting of a compressor and an expander is under development. The engine motoring, compressor pressure, and fuel combustion have been tested with the initial prototype for operability checks of the mechanism. This paper describes an engine cycle analysis method designed specifically for this new-concept engine. The unique operational mechanism of the engine and the thermodynamic properties of each step of air intake, compression, filling of combustion chamber, combustion, expansion and exhaust were analyzed. The cycle efficiencies of this engine according to various engine design parameters as well as the cooling effect of compressed air between the compressor and expander can be easily calculated with this method; further, some case studies are presented in this paper.

Granulite complexes in northern (the Nangnim block), eastern (ther Kimchaek zone of the Macheonryong belt) and southern (separate windows among upper Proterozoic structure such as the Wonsan, Nampo and Haeju granulites) parts of the Northern Korea are studied. Multistage deformations, metamorphic and migmatitic events, and granite formations are recognized in these granulite complexes. Mineral thermobarometry and fluid inclusion investigationss are used to establish the P-T evolutionary trends during prograde and retrograde metamorphic events. The peak metamorphism of granulites is characterized by temperature near $800^{\circ}C$ and pressure near 5.5-6 kb. Retrograde evolution includes cooling at constant pressure or with variable pressure ranging up to 7-8 kb. This P-T change corresponds to the transition from high to moderate or low geothermal gradient. The subsequent cooling is ac-companied by significant decompression to 3-4 kb.
