Two phenolic acids were isolated from the hydrolyzed butanol fraction of Aralia continenetalis K. in crystalline form. They were identified by chemical tests and by analysis of spectra of UV, IR and NMR as ferulic acid and caffeic acid.

By the reaction of 15 with 3-halohydantoins (4-14) in N, N-dimethylformamide, which were prepared from corresponding hydantoins, 3-bromo-5, 5-dimethylhydantoin was found to be the most convenient reagent for halolactonization reaction.

The oxidative dimerization of ferulic acid has been carried out using horse-radish peroxidase as catalyst to give a dihydrobenzofuran neolignan (1), the structure of which was elucidated as (2SR, 3RS)-2,3-dihydro-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3n-butoxycarbonyl-5-(2E-carboxyethenyl)-7methoxybenzofuran by spectroscopic analyses. This compound showed more potent cytotoxicity against several tumor cell lines than the starting material.

Recently many countries have established data platforms to disclose government-owned data that include administrative data-sets and provide free access to the public via Web. This research analyzes the "Socrata" and "CKAN", the most popular representative open data platforms in the world, and reviews functions and their practical cases in operation in several cities of various nations. It also examines the current status of the data-set services in the City of Seoul to provide conceptual bases for management and service of the local governments' data-sets using open data platform. Then it suggests measures that ensure the long-term preservation and management of data-sets as archives for services, which includes the aspects of preparing systems, creating and managing data, providing services, and selecting platforms.

As the indigenous history of the city gets recorded and today's history is lively reflected as it draws breath, the city will have its own symbolic images. This study is to show the new city archives of building direction by the status survey and analysis of the city archives based on theoretical study in respect of the comprehension of the characteristics of the city and the need to archive. To this end, the city of Seoul, Busan, and Wonju, was surveyed and were given the suggestion it should efficiently build its city archive based on the results of its analysis.

This study was aimed at investigating the job characteristics and job environment of records managers who are in archives of autonomous districts, find out the problems with the management of duties for local records managers, and deduce the improvement methods that could help records managers more efficiently perform their duties. Through literature review, the study investigated the concept of basic autonomous districts, the allocated summary and duties of records managers through with basic autonomous districts, and the present conditions and duties of the archives through autonomous Gu offices that were in study. Based on the theories of job characteristics and job environment factors, the study drew up a survey that encompasses the present demographic summary, job characteristics, job environment, and working conditions.

The authors performed rigid reconstruction using the sandwich technique for full-thickness chest wall defects by using two layers of acellular dermal matrix and bone cement. We assessed six patients who underwent chest wall reconstruction. Reconstruction was performed by sandwiching bone cement between two layers of acellular dermal matrix. In all patients, there was no defect of the overlying soft tissue, and primary closure was performed for external wounds. The average follow-up period was 4 years (range, 2-8 years). No major complications were noted. The sandwich technique can serve as an efficient and safe option for chest wall reconstruction.

Archival descriptions are significant in utilizing archives, as they are important tools for archival research and use. Meanwhile, content services are key services in modern society, where the use of archives and the importance of content are increasing. In this study, archival descriptions and content services were not viewed as different areas but as a relationship that could advance complementarily. This is because if archival descriptions are rich and well-prepared, high-quality content can be produced based on them, and archival descriptions can be enriched if well-made content is supplemented or linked to the descriptions again. This study intends to reveal the complementary relationship between archival descriptions and content services and propose an advancement plan based on this relationship. As such, the current status and problems of the archival descriptions and content services of the National Archives of Korea and the Presidential Archives website were analyzed, and the UK's National Archives (TNA), the USA's National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the Seoul Metropolitan Archives, and the Korea Democracy Foundation's Open Archives were selected as exemplary cases for comparison. Based on the implications of the six analyzed institutions, an advancement plan for archival descriptions and content services, as well as a complementary development plan, was proposed. Through this study, it is expected that archival descriptions and content services will develop in a mutually complementary direction.

Effects of brazilin on the blood viscosity and erythrocyte deformability were investigated in alloxan induced diabetic rats. By the treatment to alloxan induced diabetic rats, enhancement of erythrocyte deformability was observed. In the in vitro study on the erythrocyte deformability, brazilin showed statistically significant improving effects on the erythrocyte deformability. At the concentrations of $10^3$ M of brazilin, erythrocyte deformability was compared with those of hematoxylin, pentoxifyline and prednisolone.

The in vivo anti-tumor activities of decursinol angelate (1) and decursin (2) isolated from the roots of Angelica gigas were investigated. These two compounds, when administered consecutively for 9 days at 50 and 100 mg/kg i.p. in mice, caused a significant increase in the life span and a significant decrease in the tumor weight and volume of mice inoculated with Sarcoma-180 tumor cells. These results suggest that decursinol angelate (1) and decursin (2) from A. gigas have anti-tumor activities.
