영상진단용 초음파 트랜스듀서를 위한 멀티레벨 음향 프레넬 렌즈의 제작 및 특성 (Fabrication and characteristics of multilevel acoustic Fresnel lens for ultrasonic transducer for diagnostic imaging)

  • A multilevel acoustic Fresnel lens (MAFL) for the ultrasonic imaging transducer of which center frequency is approximately 5.MHz was newly designed and fabricated. The phase level of the lens was 64, and the focal length and the aperture width were 30.mm and 11.mm, respectively. The characteristics of impulse response, acoustic field and imaging performance of the transducer attached the lens were compared with the transducer attached a conventional refraction type acoustic lens (RAL). The results show that the center frequency, the loop sensitivity, and the focal depth of the MAFL transducer were higher or larger than those of the RAL transducer by approximately 0.2.MHz, 1.4.dB, and 2.mm, respectively. Consequently, it was shown that the brighter acoustic images with higher lateral resolution and the increased imaging performance for deep targets can be obtained by using the MAFL transducer.

Experimental Study for Defects Inspection of CFRP Using Laser-Generated Ultrasound

  • The fabrication process of fiber placement system of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) requires real time process control and reliable inspection to ensure quality by preventing defects such as delamination and void. Therefore, novel non-contact inspection technique is required during the non-destructive evaluation in a fiber placement system. For the inspection of delamination in CFRP, various methods to receive laser-generated ultrasound were applied by using piezoelectric transducer, air-coupled transducer, wavelet transform and scanning laser ultrasonic technique. Laser-generated ultrasound was received with a conventional piezoelectric sensor in contacting manner. Then signal characteristics due to defects were analyzed to find a factor for detecting defects. Air-coupled transducer was used for reception of laser-generated guided wave using linear slit array in order to generate high frequency guided wave. And line scan technique was used to confirm the capability of on-line application. The high frequency component of laser-generated guided wave received with piezoelectric sensor disappeared after propagating through delamination region. Nevertheless, it was failed to receive high frequency guided wave in using air-coupled transducer. The first peak of the frequency spectrum under 100kHz in the delamination region is higher than in the sound region. By using this feature, the line scanned frequency data were acquired in fully non-contact generation and reception of ultrasound. This method was proved as useful technique for detecting delamination in CFRP.

  • Piezoelectric under water acoustic transducer is a kind of device for under water detection working as not only an actuator but also a sensor. The technique that can predict acoustical characteristics of transducer is important for robust design of transducer in harsh underwater environment. This paper represents the development of software for analyzing dynamic characteristics of piezoelectric acoustic transducers based on finite element method. Modal and transient analysis modulo for acoustic transducers are developed TWO dimensional model for Tonpilz transducer is used for the test of the developed nodal and transient analysis modules. and comparison is made with a commercial code, ANSYS.

Development of an Impedance Matching Layer in an Ultrasound Transducer with Gradient Properties

  • The piezocomposite transducer is widely used because it is highly efficient in transforming electric energy into mechanical energy, and its frequency range is broader than that of other types of ultrasound transducers. A general piezocomposite transducer is composed of an acoustic lens, impedance matching layers, piezoelectric materials, and backing layers. When an input voltage is applied to a piezoelectric material as an active material, it generates sound waves while vibrating. At that time, an impedance matching layer helps the sound waves to propagate forward while reducing the impedance mismatch that may occur at the interface between the active material and its front material. The impedance mismatch has a negative effect on the signal of an ultrasound transducer; thus, it is important to design a matching layer to overcome the issue. In this study, an optimized feature of a matching layer with gradient properties is studied. An objective function is defined to minimize both the average and the deviation of the reflection coefficients that are functions of the frequencies. As a result, an improvement in the signal characteristics with respect to the sensitivity and bandwidth is reported.

캐패시턴스형 센서가 내장된 자기베어링 시스템의 작동성능에 관한 연구 (Performance of Built-in Capacitance Type Transducer of a Magnetic Bearing System)

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated the magnetic bearings and built-in type cylindrical capacitive transducers for improving the vibration characteristics of rotating shaft. The eddy current and magnetic field from the electromagnet of the bearing don't affect the measuring signal of the capacitive type transducers so that it is possible to locate the capacitive sensor plates around the magnetic bearing poles and can improve the spillover problem which is induced by the noncollocation of the sensors and actuators. According to the sensitivity calibration schemes using a X-Y table, the cylindrical capacitive transducers have a good linearities in the .+-.70.mu.m range from the geometric center of the sensor plates. The measured results also show high displacement sensitivities of the sensors. According to the performance test of the magnetic bearing which is controlled by the analog PD controllers, we found that the built-in capacitive transducer system successfully measures the journal displacement in the magnetic field and therefore the magnetic bearing system supports the rotating shaft up to 12,000 rpm.

  • FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) hydrophone sensor의 arrays system을 구축하고, 수중에서 넓은 영역에 대한 다중점 신호 검출을 구현하기 위하여, WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) 방법과 passive band-pass filter system을 이용하여, 설계 및 제작된 2개의 FBG transducers의 수중 음향파 신호 검출을 실행하였다. 실험 결과 수중에서 주파수 1.3 KHz대까지 다중점에 대하여, 주파수 신호가 각각 다른신호의 검출이 가능하였다. 따라서, 제작된 FBG transducers을 이용한 hydrophone sensor arrays의 시스템 설계가 가능함을 확인하였다.

유체와 접한 판재에 박힌 압전센서의 유한요소 모델링 (Finite Element Modeling of a Piezoelectric Sensor Embedded in a Fluid-loaded Plate)

  • 유체와 접한 판재에 박힌 압전센서의 응답을 복합적인 유한요소 해석기법을 이용하여 모델링 하였다. 판재 구조물은 유체영역에서 전파되는 음향파에 의해서 가진된다. 구조물과 압전소자 주위의 유에부분을 유한요소기법을 써서 모델링였고 임의로 나눈 가상경계에서는 평면과 해를 적용하여 변위를 일치 시켰다. 또한, 이 경계에서 변위의 번분까지도 Penalty factor를 써서 일치 시켰으며 가상경계에서의 투명성을 증가시키기 위해서 유한요소의 각 절점에 회전자유도를 추가시켰다. 압전 센서 응답의 수치 결과가 구하여졌고 이것은 센서의 삽입효과가 적을 뿐만 아니라 구조물의 특성에 민감하다는 것이 밝혀졌다.

  • A low cost force./moment sensor that can be used in the robot teaching task is presented. Force Sensing Resistor is used as the transducer. The principle of force/moment detection is explained, the architecture of the sensor is shown, and the measurement of the force/moment is presented. The force/moment sensor shown in this work is not meant to be used in a precise force/moment control, but it is intended to be used in the robot teaching where low accuracy can be tolerated.

필름형 유연 시-촉각 융합 디스플레이 (Flexible Visuo-haptic Display)

  • This paper describes a flexible visuo-haptic display module. We have developed a flexible electro-active polymer (EAP) actuator and a thin flexible visual display with $3{\times}3$ array configuration via polymer technology. The flexible actuator consists of nine EAP cells vertically moving in response to change in their thickness. The flexible display uses polymer based optical waveguide allowing light to scatter only at specific area. The display film is transparent and identically designed to the array pattern to fit for the arrangement of actuator cells. A pressure sensor is installed under the integrated module. The performance of the actuator is proved to be sufficient for satisfying perceivable range of human touch sense. The integrated system can provide interactive haptic feedback such as key pressing, contact vibration sensations, and etc. in accordance with user input.

압전 횡효과를 이용한 무지향성 주파수가변 초음파트랜스듀서 (Frequency Controllable Wide-Beam Ultrasonic Transducer with Transverse Mode)

  • In order to obtain wide-beam characteristics and variable resonant frequency of a ultrasonic transducer for the array source, an electrode of transverse mode piezoelectric vibrator is divided, and an electronic inductance is connected to the divided electrodes. The electronic inductance is made by GIC (General Impedance Converter) circuit. Because the GIC circuit is made of OP-Amps and other passive elements, the value of the inductance can be selected easily. As the results, the electronic inductance is variable in the range from 0.2 mH to 1.2 mH. Using the inductance, the resonance frequency of the transducer can be changed in the range from 73 kHz to 86 kHz. In the directivity of the transducer, it is confirmed that the beam width of the transducer is wider than $80^{\circ}$ at -3 dB in water.
