  • Comparative evaluation of offshore wind retreival software, which use the satellite images taken by Synthetic Aperture Radar sensor; SARTools of CLS-SOPRONO, France and SpaceEye of London Research and Development Corporation, Canada is carried out. For a reference satellite image, ENVISAT ASAR imagery of Jeollanam-do Wan-do area when the winter-time northwestern wind prevails is processed by CMOD_IFR2, CMOD4, CMOD5 algorithms. Wind speed difference and its relative ratio are calculated to evaluate uncertainty of software selection.

  • In this paper, we propose the method to extract the important frequency bands from the EMG signal, and for generation of feature vector using the important frequency bands. The EMG signal is measured with 4 sensor and is recorded as 4 channel’s time series data. The same frequency bands from 4 channel’s frequency components are selected as the important frequency bands. The feature vector is calculated by the function formed using the combination of selected same important frequency bands. The EMG signals acquired from seven wrist motion type are recognized by changing into the feature vector formed. Then, the extraction and generation is performed by using the double combination of the genetic algorithm (GA) and the neural network (NN). Finally, in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, computer simulations are done.

  • Multilevel inverter has attracted great interest in high-voltage high-power field because of its less distorted output. In this paper, a direct torque control (DTC) technique based on a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter is presented. In order to solve the intrinsic neutral-point voltage-balancing problem and to obtain a high performance DTC, a special vector selection method is introduced and the concept of virtual vector is developed. By using the proposed PWM strategy, a MRAS speed sensor-less DTC drive can be achieved without sensing the neutral-point voltage, The strategy can be verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • In this review, we will discuss aptamer technologies including in vitro selection, signal transduction mechanisms, and designing aptamers and aptazyme for label-free biosensors and catalysts. Dye-displacement, a typical label-less method, is described here which allows avoiding relatively complex labeling steps and extending this application to any aptamers without specific conformational changes, in a more simple, sensitive and cost effective way. We will also describe most recent and advanced technologies of signaling aptamer and aptazyme for the various analytical and clinical applications. Quantum dot biosensor (QDB) is explained in detail covering designing and adaptations for multiplexed protein detection. Application to aptamer array utilizing self-assembled signaling aptamer DNA tile and the novel methods that can directly select smart aptamer or aptazyme experimentally and computationally will also be finally discussed, respectively.

  • Laser-based ultrasonic sensing requires the probe with fixed fecal length, but this requirement is not essential in laser-based ultrasonic generation. Based on this fact, we designed a pulsed laser-based ultrasonic wave propagation imaging (UWPI) system with a tilting mirror system for rapid scanning of target, and an in-line band-pass filtering capable of ultrasoaic mode selection. 1D-temporal averaging, 2D-spatial averaging, and 3D-data structure building algorithms were developed far clearer results allowing fur higher damage detectability. The imaging results on a flat stainless steel plate were presented in movie and snapshot formats which showed the propagation of ultrasound visible as a concentric wavefield emerging from the location of an ultrasonic sensor. A hole in the plate with a diameter of 1 mm was indicated by the scattering wavefields. The results showed that this robust UWPI system is independent of focal length and reference data requirements.

  • In this paper, we examine the problems of the low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol and present ideas for improvement by selecting the cluster head node. The main problem with LEACH lies in the random selection of cluster heads. There exists a probability that the formed cluster heads are unbalanced and may remain in one part of the network, which makes some part of the network unreachable. In this paper, we present a new version of the LEACH protocol called the improved LEACH (ILEACH) protocol, which a cluster head is selected based on its ratio between the current energy level and an initial energy level, and multiplies by the root square of its number of neighbor nodes. The simulation results show that the proposed ILEACH increases the energy efficiency and network lifetime.

  • This paper presents the development of the graphic simulator for an assembly workcell. The assembly workcell consists of two PUMA 560 manipulators, a conveyor belt system, a work table, and a vision sensor. In this study, the Petri Net theory is applied to model the assembly workcell and to construct the simulator. The event scheduling approach is used to simulate the cell. In order to show the graphic display of the simulation process, robot modelling, component modelling, and world modelling are included. The developed simulator is used to display the transition of the system state during the simulation. It is also used as a tool in selection the best resource states by studying the performance of the system as the resource states are changed.

  • This paper describes a newly designed multipoint process monitoring system based on a NIR acousto-optic tunable filter. The NIR multipoint process monitoring system consists of a NIR AOTF device for wavelength selection, an InGaAs array sensor, and a specially designed iin-line type of optical fiber probe. Unlike a FTS(Fourier Transform Spectrometry) or grating based monitoring system, an AOTF has no moving parts, and it can be rapidly tuned to any wavelength in its operating range within microseconds. Thus, the AOTF is advantageous in terms of faster spectral imaging capability and rigidity required for industrial monitoring environment. In the current feasibility evaluation, an enhanced optical fiber probe with 3 monitoring points was used. However, ...
