A study on the indoor positioning system has been active recently for the location based service indoors. In the 3 dimensional positioning system based on the acoustic signal and TDOA technology, the error characteristics of the estimated source position would be changed depending on the number of microphones and the pattern of the microphone array. In this paper, the estimated position error according to the measured distance error between the microphones and the signal source is analyzed, and the optimum microphone array is decided considering the estimated position error patterns and the total amount of the estimated position error.

In this paper, the performance of AP(Alternating Projection) and EM(Expectation Maximization) algorithms is investigated in terms of detection of multiple signals, resolvability of coherent signals and the efficiency of sensor array processing. The basic idea of these algorithms is utilization of relaxation technique of successive 1D maximization to solve a direction finding problem by maximizing the multidimensional likelihood function. It means that the function is maximized over only for a single parameter while the other parameters are fixed at each step of the iteration. According to simulation results, the algorithms showed good performance for both incoherent and coherent multiple signals. Moreover, some advantages are identified for direction finding with very small samples and fast convergence. The performance of AP algorithm is compared with that of EM using multiple criteria such as the number of sensor, SNR, the number of samples, and convergence speed over uniform circular array. It is resulted AP algorithm is superior to EM overally except for one criterion, convergence speed. Especially, for EM algorithm there is no performance difference between incoherent and coherent case. In conclusion, AP and EM are viable and practical alternatives, which can be applied to a direction under due to the resolvability of multi-path signals, reliable performance and no troublesome eigen-decomposition of the sample-covariance matrix.
We propose a reactive mesogen (RM) lens array to obtain good focusing behavior along with a short focal plane, where the focusing behavior is switchable according to the polarization state of incident light. Polarization-dependent focusing behavior is obtained using a planoconvex RM microlens array on a planoconcave isotropic lens template. Even though the sagitta of our RM lens is high, to obtain the short focal length, the RM layer can be aligned well by introducing a top-down alignment effect, using a nanogrooved template. The optical noise due to the $moir{\acute{e}}$ effect generated by the nanogrooves on the surface of the planoconvex RM layer can be removed simply by overcoating a thin RM layer, which is self-aligned by the geometric surface effect, without an additional alignment process. We demonstrate a hexagonal-packed RM lens array that has a very high fill factor and symmetric phase profile, for an ideal lens.
In this paper, an iterative array shape estimation technique is presented, which is based on the use of the least squares polynomial fitting to the data from heading sensors. The estimated polynomial shape model is then used for calculating the hydrophone positions on the assumption that the arc distances between sensors are constant. In order to verify the applicability of the proposed algorithm, numerical simulations are performed using two types of non-linear array shapes. In addition the noise effects of heading sensors on the array shape estimation results and the performance of beamformer are also investigated.

For grippers of industrial robots, parallel grippers and multi-function finger grippers are used. The former has the advantage of low cost but has the disadvantage of low precision, and the latter has the advantage of excellent precision but has the disadvantage of being expensive. In this paper, we developed a grip that can detects the various shapes of the object to be gripped on the gripper surface by using mesured pressure information frome Veloset Sheet sensor so that the gripper can be gripped without deforming the surface of the gripper. Also we did not only developed the array type gripper and 4 array type grippers (ATG), but also confirmed the usefulness of array type gripper developed in this study according to the 4 predefined evaluation criteria

Traditional towed line arrays using omni-directional sensor suffer from the well known port-starboard ambiguity, because the direction of arrival is determined by conic angle. The operational method and structure of the sensor arrays method have been proposed to solve this problem. Recently, a lot of research relating to the acoustic vector sensor are studied. In this paper, we study port-starboard discrimination for roll of acoustic vector sensor array. With one omni-directional sensor and three orthogonally-placed directional sensors, an acoustic vector sensor is able to measure both the acoustic pressure and the three directional velocities at the point of the sensor. The wrong axis due to the roll at directional sensors can degrade performance of beamforming. We investigate port-starboard discrimination for roll of sensor array and confirm the validity of performance of beamforming with compensated the roll.
An ammonia gas sensor with high sensitivity using thick-film technology were fabricated and examined. The material for sensing the ammonia gas was the mixture of oxide semiconductor, $FeO_{x}-WO_{3}-SnO_{2}$. The sensor exhibits resistance increase upon exposure to low concentration of ammonia gas. The resistance of the sensor is decreased, on the other hand, for exposure to reducing gases such as ethyl alcohol, methane, propane and carbon monoxide. A novel method for detecting ammonia gas quite selectively utilizing a sensor array consisting of an ammonia gas sensor and a compensation element were proposed and developed. The compensation element is a Pt-doped $WO_{3}-SnO_{2}$ gas sensor which shows opposite direction of resistance change in comparison with that of the ammonia gas sensor upon exposure to ammonia gas. Excellent selectivity has been achieved using the sensor array having two sensing elements.

A novel stick-shaped portable sensing device featuring a microhole array interface between the polyvinylchloride-2-nitrophenyloctylether (PVC-NPOE) gel and water phase was developed for in-situ sensing of perchlorate ions in real water samples. Perchlorate sensitive sensing responses were obtained based on measuring the current changes with respect to the assisted transfer reaction of perchlorate ions by a perchlorate selective ligand namely, bis(dibenzoylmethanato)Ni(II) (Ni(DBM)2) across the polarized microhole array interface. Cyclic voltammetry was used to characterize the assisted transfer reaction of perchlorate ions by the $Ni(DBM)_2$ ligand when using the portable sensing device. The current response for the transfer of perchlorate anions by $Ni(DBM)_2$ across the micro-water/gel interface linearly increased as a function of the perchlorate ion concentration. The technique of differential pulse stripping voltammetry was also utilized to improve the sensitivity of the perchlorate anion detection down to 10 ppb. This was acquired by preconcentrating perchlorate anions in the gel layer by means of holding the ion transfer potential at 0 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl) for 30 s followed by stripping the complexed perchlorate ion with the ligand. The effect of various potential interfering anions on the perchlorate sensor was also investigated and showed an excellent selectivity over $Br^-$, $NO_2{^-}$, $NO_3{^-}$, $CO{_3}^{2^-}$, $CH_3COO^-$ and $SO{_4}^{2^-}$ ions. As a final demonstration, some regional water samples from the Sincheon river in Daegu city were analyzed and the data was verified with that of ion chromatography (IC) analysis from one of the Korean-certified water quality evaluation centers.

We have designed a millimeter-wave passive imaging sensor with multi-horn antenna array. Six horn array antenna is suggested that it is integrated into one housing, and this antenna is effectively configurated m space to assemble with LNA of WR-10 structure. Antenna is designed to have the peak gain of 17.5dBi at the center frequency of 94GHz, and the return loss of less than -25dB in W-band, and the small aperture size of $6mm{\times}9mm$ for antenna configuration with high resolution. LNA is designed to have total gain of more than 55dB and noise figure of less than 5dB for good sensitivity. We made a detector for DC output translation of millimeter-wave signal with zero bias Schottky diode. It is shown that good sensitivity of more than 500mV/mW.
A speckle correlation method was applied to measure the in-plane translation of a diffuse object which has rough surface using a linear CCD sensor and personal computer. Displacement of a speckle pattern produced from the object illuminated by a laser beam was measured by the cross-correlation functions between the I-D speckle profiles before and after the object translation, which were measured by linear CCD array sensor to be sent to IBM 386 personal computer. The sensitivity of the measurement was dependent on the radius of the wavefront curvature of incident beam as well as the spatial resolution of linear CCD array. A linear CCD array had 15 Jlffi pitch and 1728 pixels. The ratio of the speckle displacement and object translation varied from 1.03 to 5.20. The object translation of $3\mu\textrm{m}$ can be measured br the linear CCD sensor of which pitch was $15\mu\textrm{m}$, when the ratio of the speckle displacement and object translation was 5.20.s 5.20.
