Wind and wave loadings have a predominant role in the design of offshore structures in general, and articulated tower in particular for a successful service and survival during normal and extreme environmental conditions. Such towers are very sensitive to the dynamic effects of wind and wind generated waves. The exposed superstructure is subjected to aerodynamic loads while the submerged substructure is subjected to hydrodynamic loads. Articulated towers are designed such that their fundamental frequency is well below the wave frequency to avoid dynamic amplification. Dynamic interaction of these towers with environmental loads (wind, waves and currents) acts to impart a lesser overall shear and overturning moment due to compliance to such forces. This compliancy introduces geometric nonlinearity due to large displacements, which becomes an important consideration in the analysis of articulated towers. Prediction of the nonlinear behaviour of these towers in the harsh ocean environment is difficult. However, simplified realistic mathematical models are employed to gain an important insight into the problem and to explore the dynamic behaviour. In this paper, various modeling approaches and solution methods for articulated towers adopted by past researchers are reviewed. Besides, reliability of articulation system, the paper also discussed the design, installation and performance of articulated towers around the world oceans.

Sudden voltage drops and outages frequently disturb the operation of sensitive loads for domestic, commercial, and industrial use. In some cases, these events may even impair the functioning of relevant equipment. To maintain power under such conditions, a UPS system is usually installed. Once a disturbance happens at the grid side, the line-interactive UPS system takes over the load to prevent an interruption. But, due to magnetic saturation of the transformer, a significant inrush current may occur for the transformer-coupled loads during this transition. The generation of such transient currents may in turn decrease the line voltage and activates over-current protecting devices of the system. In this work, a cost-effective, line-interactive UPS system is proposed that eliminates the inrush current phenomenon associated with transformer-coupled loads. The strategy was implemented by connecting a standard current-regulated voltage source inverter (CRVSI) to the secondary winding of the load transformer. During any transient condition at the grid side, the load current is monitored and regulated to achieve either seamless compensation of the load current or complete transferal of load from grid to the inverter. Experimental results were obtained for a prototype under all possible operating conditions so as to validate the performance of the proposed topology.
The characteristics of nonpoint source pollutant loads in upstream of Nakdong River were studied through analysis of pollutant loads of 10 sub-watersheds divided based on administrative district. The discharge and pollutant concentration of each sub-watershed were collected from Nakdong-River Water Research Institute and Daegu Regional Environmental office, respectively. Pollution items analysed in this study were BOD, T-N and T-P. The delivery loads of the nonpoint source pollutions of each sub-watershed were calculated after analysing the concentration of the pollution of each site. Several points were found from the results. Firstly, in general, city areas including Sangju, Andong showed higher degree of nonpoint pollution than country areas including Cheongsong, Yeongyang. The sub-watersheds located upstream side, such as Yeongju, Bonghwa, Necessarily show better water quality than the sub-watersheds located downstream side, such as Mungyeong, Uiseong. This result indicates that a given pollution condition within the watershed can be more sensitive than location factor to the level of water quality. Secondly, the delivery load and area of watershed were not necessarily correlated in the sense of water quality, while the discharge was shown to be highly correlated to the delively load of pollution. Lastly, sewage and waste caused from population and livestock, as well as landuse factor, were found to significantly contribute to the water pollution. Alternative solutions for controlling pollution source, therefore, should be provided to meet target levels of water quality in these regions.
Micro-source units having power ratings in thousands of watts can provide even higher reliability and fuel efficiency than the conventional large scale units. These units are also clustered with loads creating micro-grid services to customer sites such as office buildings, industrial parks and homes. Micro-sources adopt voltage source inverter to ensure the power quality of sensitive loads. This paper deals with the connection of micro-sources into the system grid. Modeling and simulation of the grid connected micro-sources at the power frequency range are investigated. Simulation results show that the micro-grid system with two micro-sources has good dynamic characteristics.

The recent growth in the use of impactive and nonlinear loads, electronic devices sensitive to power quality has caused many power quality problems. Recently, in power system, not only the reliability of the power supply but also the DVR(Dynamic Voltage Restorer) are being studied more and more. The DVR is a series compensator which can instantaneously compensate a voltage variation in supply side, and is a more effective than a existing UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) which can be only used in limited range of loads such as single load. Hence, in this paper, a study of inverter side L-C filter output Voltage for DVR is discussed.
This paper presents Kohonen neural network and wavelet transform analysis based technique for industrial peak load forecasting for the purpose of peak demand control. Firstly, one year of historical load data were sorted and clustered into several groups using Kohonen neural network and then wavelet transforms are adopted using the Biorthogonal mother wavelet in order to forecast the peak load of one hour ahead. The 5-level decomposition of the daily industrial load curve is implemented to consider the weather sensitive component of loads effectively. The wavelet coefficients associated with certain frequency and time localization is adjusted using the conventional multiple regression method and the components are reconstructed to predict the final loads through a six-scale synthesis technique.
Inconel 690 for nuclear steam generator tube has more chromium than the conventionally used Inconel 600 in order to increase the corrosion resistance. TD evaluate the tribological characteristics under fretting condition the fretting tests as well as sliding tests were carried out in elevated temperature water environment. Fretting tests of the cross-cylinder type were done under various vibrating amplitudes and applied normal loads in order to measure the friction forces and wear volumes. Also, the conventional sliding tests of pin-en-disk type were carried out to compare the test results. In fretting, the friction was very sensitive to the load and the amplitude. The friction coefficient decreased with increasing load and decreasing amplitude. Also, the wear of Inconel 690 can be predictable using the work rate model. Depending on normal loads and vibrating amplitudes, distinctively different wear mechanisms and of ten drastically different wear rates can occur. It was fecund that the fretting wear coefficients in water were increased as increasing the temperature of water.
This paper presents fuzzy clustering and wavelet transform analysis based technique for the industrial hourly load forecasting fur the purpose of peak demand control. Firstly, one year of historical load data were sorted and clustered into several groups using fuzzy clustering and then wavelet transform is adopted using the Biorthogonal mother wavelet in order to forecast the peak load of one hour ahead. The 5-level decomposition of the daily industrial load curve is implemented to consider the weather sensitive component of loads effectively. The wavelet coefficients associated with certain frequency and time localization is adjusted using the conventional multiple regression method and the components are reconstructed to predict the final loads through a five-scale synthesis technique. The outcome of the study clearly indicates that the proposed composite model of fuzzy clustering and wavelet transform approach can be used as an attractive and effective means for the industrial hourly peak load forecasting.
Many sensitive loads always rely on UPS systems to maintain continuous power during abnormal utility power conditions. As any disturbance occurs at the utility side, an off-line UPS system takes over the load within a quarter cycle to avoid a blackout. However, the starting of the inverter can root the momentous inrush current for the transformer installed before the load, due to its magnetic saturation. The consequences of this current can be a reduction of line voltage and tripping of protective devices of the UPS system. Furthermore, it can also damage the transformer and decrease its lifetime by increasing the mechanical stresses on its windings. To prevent the inrush current, and to avoid its disruptive effects, this paper proposes an off-line UPS system that eliminates the inrush current phenomenon while powering the transformer coupled loads, using a current regulated voltage source inverter (CRVSI) instead of a typical voltage source inverter (VSI). Simulations have been performed to validate the operation of proposed off-line UPS system.
The change of the electricity charge from cost base to price base due to the introduction of the electricity market competition causes consumer to choose a variety of charge schemes and a portion of loads to be affected by this change. Besides, it is required the index that consolidate the price volatility experienced on the power exchange with gaming and strategic bidding by suppliers to increase profits. Therefore, in order to find a mathematical model of the sensitively-responding-to-price loads, the price-sensitive load model is needed. And the development of state-of-the-art technologies affects the electricity price, so the diffusion of high-efficient end-uses and these price affect load patterns. This paper shows the analysis on learning curves algorithms which is used to investigate the correlation of the end-uses' price and load patterns.
