  • Cognitive Radio (CR) ad hoc network is highly considered as one of promising future ad hoc networks, which enables opportunistic access to under-utilized licensed spectrum. Similarly to other CR networks, the spectrum sensing is a prerequisite in CR ad hoc network. Collaborative spectrum sensing can help increasing sensing performance. For such an infrastructureless network, however the coordination for the sensing collaboration is really complicated due to the lack of a central controller. In this paper, we propose a novel collaborative spectrum sensing scheme in which the final decision is made by the node with the highest data reliability based on a sequential Dempster Shafer theory. The collaboration of sensing data is also executed by the proposed contention-aware reporting mechanism which utilizes the sensing data reliability order for broadcasting spectrum sensing result. The proposed method reduces the collecting time and the overhead of the control channel due to the efficiency of the ordered sequential combination while keeping the same sensing performance in comparison with the conventional cooperative centralized spectrum sensing scheme.

  • Spectrum sensing is an essential function that enables cognitive radio technology to explore spectral holes and resourcefully access them without any harmful interference to the licenses user. Spectrum sensing done by a single node is highly affected by fading and shadowing. Thus, to overcome this, cooperative spectrum sensing was introduced. Currently, the advancements in multiple antennas have given a new dimension to cognitive radio research. In this paper, we propose a multiple energy detector for cooperative spectrum sensing schemes based on the evidence theory. Also, we propose a reporting mechanism for multiple energy detectors. With our proposed system, we show that a multiple energy detector using a cooperative spectrum sensing scheme based on evidence theory increases the reliability of the system, which ultimately increases the spectrum sensing and reduces the reporting time. Also in simulation results, we show the probability of error for the proposed system. Our simulation results show that our proposed system outperforms the conventional energy detector system.

  • Building information is extremely important for many applications within the urban environment. Sufficient techniques and user-friendly tools for information extraction from remotely sensed imagery are urgently needed. This paper presents an automatic and manual approach for extracting footprints of buildings in urban areas from airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) data. First a digital surface model (DSM) was generated from the LIDAR point data. Then, objects higher than the ground surface are extracted using the generated DSM. Based on general knowledge on the study area and field visits, buildings were separated from other objects. The automatic technique for extracting the building footprints was based on different window sizes and different values of image add backs, while the manual technique was based on image segmentation. A comparison was then made to see how precise the two techniques are in detecting and extracting building footprints. Finally, the results were compared with manually digitized building reference data to conduct an accuracy assessment and the result shows that LIDAR data provide a better shape characterization of each buildings.

  • In this paper, we design tunnel inner section displacement measurement system which is composed of potentiometer-type displacement sensors, microcontroller-based intelligent sensing head and host computer for the management system and acquisition data. Multiple node communication bus connects the intelligent sensing heads with the host computer. For safe and re1iab1e network operation we use daisy-chain configuration, termination resistor, fail-safe biasing circuit. For tole enhancement of system utilization, we use modbus protocol. The acquisition data are transmitted to host computer and managed by database. Several data request conditions and sorting conditions are provided by management software. The utilization of designed system is confirmed by experiment.

  • Typhoons were known by contributing to transporting plus heat or kinetic energy from equatorial region to midlatitude region. Due to the strong damage from typhoon, we acknowledged the theoretical study and the importance of accurate forecast about typhoon. In this study, typhoon forecasting system was developed to search the tracks of past typhoons or to display similar track of past typhoon in comparison with the path of current forecasting typhoon. It was programmed using Interactive Data Language(IDL), which was a complete computing environment for the interactive analysis and visualization of data. Typhoon forecasting system was also included satellite image and auxiliary chart. IR, Water Vapor, Visible satellite images helped users analyze an accurate forecast of typhoon. They were further refined the procedures for generating water vapor winds and gave an initial indication of their utility for numerical weather prediction(NWP), in particular for typhoon track forecasting where they could provide important information. They were also available for its utility in typhoon tracer or intensity.

  • The KOMPSAT/OSMI remote sending data of 800 km swath are collected by whisk broom method employing 96 charge coupled devices (CCDs). The stripping noise in the OSMI imageries, which arise mainly due to the non-uniform sensitivities of 96 CCDs, are the major hindrance for oceanographic applications of the OSMI data. The OSMI images are corrected by 'Ensemble Smoothness' method which is based on an assumption that the series of the averages and variances of digital numbers in each line should vary smoothly. The data of each line are corrected by linear regression model of which coefficients are obtained by Ensemble Smoothness method. Our algorithm can be applied not only to OSMI data but also for other remote sensing date collected by whisk broom or push broom.

  • As it was shown recently, climate changes in Antarctica resulted in interannual trends of some climatic parameters like sea level pressure, surface air temperature, ice thickness and others. These tendencies have effect on the Southern Ocean meteorological and hydrological regime. The following remote sensing data: AVHRR MCSST data, satellite altimetry data (merged data of mission ERS-2, TOPEX/Poseidon, Jason-1, ENVISAT, GFO-1) are used to analyse the interannual and/or climatic tendency of sea surface temperature (SST) and sea level anomaly (SLA). According to the obtained results, SST has negative trend $-0.02{\pm}0.003^{\circ}C/yr$ for 24-yr record (1982-2005) and SLA has positive trend $0.01{\pm}0.005$ cm/yr for 24-yr record (1982-2005) and $0.24{\pm}0.026$ cm/yr for 12-yr record (1993-2005). However in some areas (for example, Pacific-Antarctic Ridge) SST and SLA tendencies are stronger $-0.065{\pm}0.007^{\circ}C/yr$ and $-0.21{\pm}0.05$ cm/yr, respectively.
