초기·중기·후기 고령운전자의 사망자 발생위험도 분석과 시사점 (Study on Fatality Risk of Senior Driver with Aging Classification)

  • A traffic fatality by young people marked average annual decrease of 4.5% since 2011. Meanwhile, a traffic fatality by senior over 65 years old marked average annual increase of 7.9% for the last five years which means that the annual increase of traffic fatality by senior will be a serious problem. This study started questioning that senior drivers over 65 years old did not retain the same causal factor of fatal traffic accidents and thus extensively analyzed a risk of it by age group quantitatively, dividing the senior driver group into the early, middle and latter stages. Depending on the aging level, the risk of traffic fatality showed a wide difference in seven different types of traffic accidents generally, and happened to increase with latter and middle parts of the senior driver more than the early part. Therefore, this study proposes four policy suggestions: 1) The senior driver need to be offered customized driving educations and the improvement of road environment is also recommended. 2) Political assistance is needed to support and guide a safety related technology installation for the new or existing car. 3) Renewal of driving license and an aptitude test(physical examination, cognitive test) for drivers over 75 years old should take in a less than 3 years and an additional road test is needed as occasion demands. 4) Like the United States and Europe, development and extension of customized treatment guidebook for medical teams who examine senior drivers is needed and establishment of education and administration system that a supervisor of driving license renewal can impose safety restriction and American anonymity reporting system is considered to institutionalize in the medium to longer term.

머신러닝 기반의 수도권 지역 고령운전자 차대사람 사고심각도 분류 연구 (Classifying Severity of Senior Driver Accidents In Capital Regions Based on Machine Learning Algorithms)

  • 고령화 시대에 따라 고령운전자 역시 증가하고 있으며, 이들에 의한 교통사고 심각성에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 고령운전자에 의한 사고심각도 예측 모형의 필요성이 점차 요구됨에 따라, 본 연구에서는 기계학습 기법을 활용하여 고령운전자에 의한 차대사람 사고심각도 예측을 위한 모형 정립 및 분석을 수행하고자 한다. 이를 위해 4개의 기계학습 알고리즘 (Logistic Model, KNN, RF, SVM)을 활용, 예측 모형을 개발하고 각 결과를 비교하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면 Logistic과 SVM 모형이 상대적으로 높은 예측력을 보였으며, 정확도 측면에서는 RF가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 추가적으로 각 중요 변수들을 이용하여 교차분석을 수행한 후 그 결과를 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과들은 고령화시대에 고령운전자에 의한 사고심각성을 예방하기 위한 안전정책 및 인프라 개발에 활용될 것으로 판단된다.

고령운전자 운전면허 자진반납 수용요인 분석 (Analysis on the Compliance Factors for the Voluntary Surrender of Driver's License for Senior Drivers)

  • Purpose - To study the factors that are related with compliance for the voluntary surrender program of drive's license for senior drives and to estimate the rate of voluntary surrender. Design/methodology/approach - We online surveyed 147 individuals in order to analyze the intention to comply the program. The surveyees were driver's license holders aged 54 to 65 and drawn to answer their willingness to comply in a 5-point Likert scale. We developed an ordered probit model to analyze the data. Findings - According to the main results of the empirical analysis, the higher the average number of driving per week, regardless of gender and age, the more negative was the driver toward voluntarily surrender of driver's license. Various policy measures need to be prepared to activate the voluntary surrender system using the willingness to voluntarily surrender the driver's license and the characteristics of the voluntary returners, and the implementation of customized safe driving training for elderly drivers may be one such method. Research implications or originality - Population aging is known to cause various social problems, and in the transportation field, the number of elderly drivers and traffic accidents by elderly drivers are also increasing. The government is implementing a program for elderly drivers to voluntarily surrender of their driver's licenses in order to reduce traffic accidents caused by elderly drivers. If only elderly drivers who rarely drive surrender their driver's licenses then traffic accidents may not reduce as much as the program targets, however, and further policy instruments may be needed.

노인교통사고 실태 및 감소방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Actual Condition and Reduction Plan of Traffic Accidents for the Elderly)

  • 인간수명의 연장에 따라 우리나라도 2018년부터 고령사회에 진입하면서 빠른 속도로 증가하고 있는 노인교통사고가 사회적 문제로 나타나고 있다. 65세 이상 노인 교통사고율은 점점 높아지고 있지만, 이에 대한 교통 안전 정책은 미비한 실정이다. 2014년부터 최근 5년간 노인교통사고 현황 및 노인 운전자 교통사고에 대한 분석을 토대로 크게 3가지 측면에서 감소방안 제시하고자 한다. 먼저, 제도적 측면에서 미국, 영국, 일본처럼 정부기관 내 노인 교통정책 전담부서 설치 및 노인운전면허 제도를 강화하여 체계적인 관리가 필요하여, 환경적 측면으로는 교통약자를 위한 보행시간 및 횡단보도 통행환경을 개선해 나가야 한다. 또한, 인적측면에서는 노인 교통안전교육 강화를 위해 교통안전 전문가를 양성하여 교육의 실효성을 확보하고, 노인운전면허 소지자 안전교육 강화 및 체험식 교통안전시설을 확충하여 노인들에게 실시간 변하는 교통상황에 대처할 수 있는 능력을 향상시켜야 한다.

고령운전자 교통안전성 평가모형 개발 (The Development of Traffic Accident Severity Evaluation Models for Elderly Drivers)

  • 본 연구는 최근 사회적으로 이슈가 되고 있는 고령자 교통사고 인적요인을 평가할 수 있는 모형 개발을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구의 수행을 위해 교통안전공단의 운전자적성검사(Simulation, 설문조사) 자료를 수집하였으며, 교통사고영향 모형개발을 위해 포아송 및 음이항 회귀분석(Poisson Regression Analysis)을 실시하였다. 교통안전성 평가모형 분석결과, 고령운전자의 경우 선택적 주의능력, 속도예측능력, 주의배분능력이 교통사고에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 다음으로 비고령운전자의 경우 선택적 주의능력, 속도예측능력, 거리지각능력, 주의배분능력, 주의전환능력이 교통사고와 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 고령운전자와 비고령운전자의 사고발생에 미치는 영향요인은 서로 다르게 나타났으며, 교통사고를 미연에 방지하기 위한 최소한의 방편으로 고령운전자와 비고령운전자를 구분하여 교통사고 예방교육을 실시해야 할 것으로 판단된다.

운전능력에 연관된 인적특성의 연령 임계점 연구 (Identification of Age Threshold for Driving Performance)

  • This study aims to identity the age group where driving performance significantly decreases based on the data collected from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's driver aptitude tests in 2006. The test includes following six driving simulator-based tests: estimation of moving objects' speed, estimation of stopping distance, three tests for drivers' multi-task ability, and kinetic depth perception. These six test results were utilized for the identification of the age threshold applying the CART technique, suggesting driving ability significantly be decreased over 50s. This finding was confirmed by two analyses using the accident history data containing the information of accident and non-accident drivers and the degree of accident severity. The results of this study imply that accident prevention efforts should be enhanced over a wider range of age group than the current practice where the age of 65 is generally applied for the threshold dividing senior and non-senior driver groups.

고령탑승자의 좌석별 상해정도에 관한 연구 (Multinomial Logit Framework to Evaluate the Impact of Seating Position on Senior Occupant Injury Severity in Traffic Accidents)

  • A rapid increase in traffic accidents involving senior vehicle occupants has been an issue in Korea because of the aging of the population occurring at one of the fastest rates in the world; unfortunately, few studies beyond several looking at the effect of senior occupants on the level of accident injury severity can be found in the literature. A Multinomial logit model was estimated with Newton-Raphson algorithm to perform bias-reducing penalized likelihood optimization. Model covariates integral to developing the model were included, but the main focus was on the interaction of seating position and injury to senior vehicle occupants. It was found that the likelihood of an accident resulting in a fatality increased: 2.2 times for the driver seat, 2.7 times for the front passenger seat, and even 6.7 times for the rear seat. A mandatory seatbelt law to be extended to the rear seat needs to pass the assembly as soon as possible, and government, industry, and safety groups should be encouraged to join forces to strongly carry out targeted campaigns for the wearing of seatbelts in all vehicle seats to enhance the safety of senior occupants as well as other occupants who are vulnerable to road traffic accidents.

Long-Haul Truck Driver Training Does Not Meet Driver Needs in Canada

  • Introduction: Training standards for long-haul truck drivers (LHTD) are rapidly evolving in Canada, yet the opinions of the drivers themselves have not been adequately considered. The purpose was to survey LHTD on their work training history and to examine LHTD perceptions of driver training and licensing protocols. Methods: LHTD were recruited across two Western Canadian provinces from seven different truck stops. The sample completed 207 surveys and 67 semi-structured interviews. Results: The average age of the participants was 52.5 ± 11.5 years (range 24-79); 96% were men. Approximately 33% of the LHTD had at least one crash. Those who did not receive formal driver training were significantly more likely to crash than those who had received training. Participants stated that current training standards are inadequate for the industry, particularly for new drivers. According to participants, entry-level curriculums should consist of both classroom and practical training, as well as on-road observation with a senior mentor. LHTD reported that many new drivers are not equipped to drive in various contexts and settings (e.g., mountains, slippery roads). Conclusions: LHTD are not confident in the current training guidelines for novice truck drivers. Revisions to the training curriculum and standardization across Canada should be considered. Practical Application: A federal mandatory entry-level training program is needed in Canada to ensure that all new LHTD ascertain the necessary skills to drive safely. Such a program requires government involvement and input from LHTD to facilitate appropriate licensure and consistent training for all drivers.

한국의 고령자 생체능력 조사로 안전한 운전면허 적성검사 강화 연령 추정 (Survey and Analysis of Vitality of the Senior to Safe Driving License in Korea)

  • 연구목적: 우리나라 인구구조의 변화로 고령자 운전자비율이 높아지고 있으며, 초고령사회로 전환되어 향후 더욱 많은 고령자가 운전을 할 것으로 기대되고 있다. 최근에는 고령자의 교통사고 증가에 따라 사회적 문제가 되고 있는 현실적 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 연령에 따른 종합적 신체변화를 분석하고, 운전면허의 정밀 적성검사 연령을 추정하고자 한다. 연구방법: 본 연구에서 연령별 운전자의 신체 기능 저하의 의학적 특징을 면밀히 분석해 보았는데 신체적인 면과 인지적인 면에서 나이가 들어감에 따라 전반적으로 기능이 저하됨을 보았다. 그 중에서도 다양한 부분들이 70대 이후에 급격하게 떨어짐을 보이는데, 이는 의학적 측면에서 70세 이후를 고령자라 지칭할 수 있다는 것을 시사하는 것이며, 또한 우리나라 고령자의 안전운전을 위한 다양한 정책을 모색할 때 70세 이상을 기준으로 보고 수립해가야 한다고 판단할 수 있다. 연구결과: 인지기능 및 판단능력의 연령대별 변화추이를 볼 때 70세 이후에는 신체적 능력이 모두 급격히 떨어지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히, 운전능력에 필요한 시각, 청각, 신체적 기능은 70세 이후에는 극히 일부만이 운전이 가능한 것으로 보이기 때문에, 운전면허 제도와 적성검사 등의 정밀한 분석이 70세 부터는 더욱 신중히 이루어져야 할 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 운전자의 운전능력을 생체능력을 중심으로 고찰하여 고령운전에 중에서 차량운전행태에 영향을 줄 수 있는 위험 연령대를 찾고자 하였다. 향후 고령운전자를 위한 정책과 신체적 차이점을 이해하는데 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

글로벌 회사채 스프레드에 대한 경기요인 영향력 분석: 기업 신용스프레드에 대한 경기사이클의 설명력 추정을 중심으로 (A Study on the Impact of Business Cycle on Corporate Credit Spreads)

  • Purpose - This paper investigates how business cycle impacts on corporate credit spreads since global financial crisis. Furthermore, it tests how the impact changes by the phase of the cycle. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected dataset from Barclays Global Aggregate Bond Index through the Bloomberg. It conducted multi-regression analysis by projecting business cycle using Hodrick-Prescott filtering and various cyclical variables, while ran dynamic analysis of 5-variable Vector Error Correction Model to confirm the robustness of the test. Findings - First, it proves to be statistically significant that corporate credit spreads have moved countercyclicaly since the crisis. Second, It indicates that the corporate credit spread's countercyclicality to the macroeconomic changes works symmetrically by the phase of the cycle. Third, the VECM supports that business cycle's impact on the spreads maintains more sustainably than other explanatory variable does in the model. Research implications or Originality - It becomes more appealing to accurately measure the real economic impact on corporate credit spreads as the interaction between credit and business cycle deepens. The economic impact on the spreads works symmetrically by boom and bust, which implies that the market stress could impact as another negative driver during the bust. Finally, the business cycle's sustainable impact on the spreads supports the fact that the economic recovery is the key driver for the resilience of credit cycle.
