Research on Correlation between Stress and Menstruation through Analyzing Menstruation State of Highschool Senior Female Students (고3 수험생의 월경실태분석을 통한 Stress와 원경의 상관관계 조사(Stress와 월경의 상관관계))

  • Objective: Stress is assumed to have many effects on menstruation of highschool senior female students, and it is expected to cause many problems and low efficiency during their studies. Therefore, through analyzing the menstruation state of highschool senior female students, the effects of stress on their menstruation and their education were studied. Methods: We made a survey of 583 senior female students of 'N' highschool located in Taegu. The survey was composed of the degrees of stress they were undergoing, menstrual problems caused by stress. Results: The survey results showed that 96.7% of the candidates were experiencing stress. 51.6% of them experienced an altered menstrual cycle, and menstrual irregularity was brought out in 32.1 % among them. 18.1 % of them were experiencing dysfunctional uterine bleeding. In sustaining period of menstruation, 17.5% of them had a shortened menstruation period, and 8.9% had a prolonged period. In case of menstrual quantity, less than normal quantity was reported by 26.9% of respondents and more than normal quantity was reported by 8.8%. 26.6% of respondents reported their menstrual blood was impure and the color was dark. Blood clots were increased in 27.5% of respondents. 86.6% went through premenstrual syndrome, and 34.3% had worsened menstrual pain. Studying was affected by menstrual pain in 83.9% of respondents. Of treating the disorder, 66.2% of them said they just waited till the pain went away, and 26.9% of them said they went to a pharmacy, and 2.4% of them said they went to an oriental medical clinic. Conclusions: From the above results, it is concluded that stress has a close connection with menstrual disorders. And it affects senior highschool female students' education, while they don't take proper treatments. Hence we think that we must have a lot of concern about senior female students and they must receive proper treatments.

Setting Instructional Goals for Nutritional Education Program Through an Analysis of Problems Identified in Junior/senior High School Students (중 고등학생 대상 영양교육 목표 설정을 위한 영양 관련 문제점 분석)

  • For the purpose of developing 'Web-Based Nutritional Education Program', this study analyzed nutritional problems of junior/senior high school students and set appropriate instructional goals for nutritional education program. Survey questionnaires were distributed from October 21,2002 to October 26, 2002 to a total of 564 students at three junior high schools and five senior high schools located in Seoul. The total number of questionnaires collected and used in our study was 479, which is 84.9% of the total questionnaires distributed. According to the survey results, three student groups (male and female students at junior high schools and female students at senior high schools) had lower than an ideal body weight. In case of their Basal Metabolic Indices (BMI), the female students and junior high school students showed a tendency to be underweight, while the other three student groups were within the normal range. The result of the survey showed that all four groups of students showed a deficiency in nutrient intake of calories, calcium and thiamin when compared with Korean RDA. Particularly, in the case of the female students at senior high schools, the deficiency of iron intake was a problem. The survey about food attitudes and food habits of the students showed that the senior high school students had more problems when compared with their junior high school counterparts (p < .001). Therefore, the instructional goals of nutritional education program were set as follows: 1) To improve the level of understanding and the perception of junior and senior high school students about the importance of a dietary lifestyle. 2) To change food attitudes and nutritional knowledge related to individual dietary 1ifestyle, so as to maintain good health through the enhancement of the students' physical activities. We found out that it is critically important to factor in the existing problems of food attitudes and food habits, as well as nutrient intake among junior and senor high school students when setting objectives for nutritional education programs. Vitamin A Status of Female University Students (여대생의 비타민 A 영양 상태)

  • The purpose of this study was to diagnose nutritional status of vitamin A in female university students. Total of 59 female students in Korea National University of Education, Home Economics Education department were recruited for this study. Retinol and :t major carotenoids in serum($\beta$-carotene, u-carotene, lycopene and lutein) were analyzed by HPLC. The isocratic separation was performed in a $\mu$ Bondapak$^{TM}$ $C_{18}$ stainless steel column with a solvent system of acetonitrile : methanol=85:15. The results of analysis were as follows: The average retinol concentration of 59 female students was 25.9$\mu\textrm{g}$/100$m\ell$. According to biochemical criteria for the assessment of vitamin A status, 18 of them belong to well-nourished and 6 students belong to adequate status. On the other hand, 8 students, 3 freshmen and 5 sophomore, were in critical vitamin A status. Retinol concentrations of junior and senior students were higher than those of freshmen and sophomore (P<0.001). The average concentrations of serum $\beta$-carotene, lycopene, and lutein were 1.9, 5.4, and 41.4$\mu\textrm{g}$/100$m\ell$, respectively. Serum $\beta$-carotene concentration of senior was significant. higher than those of freshman, sophomore and junior(p<0.001). Lycopene concentration of freshman was significant. lower than those of the other grades and that of senior was sig, higher than those of the other grades(p<0.05). Lutein concentrations of junior and senior were significant. higher than those of freshman and sophomore(p<0.001). The serum $\alpha$-carotene concentrations of the students were too low to analyze.e.

Determinants of Academic Achievement Among High School Seniors

  • This study determines what affects the academic achievement of senior high school students in the context of the individual, family, and school environment. The sample selection consisted of 1484 high school seniors in Korea. The following are the results of this study: First, female students scored higher in academic achievement than male students. Second, academic achievement by male students was related to levels of school satisfaction, academic motivation, and family strength, while academic achievement by female students was related to levels of parents' education, family income, ego-resiliency, school satisfaction, academic motivation, and family strength. Third, the most important predictor of academic achievement for male and female students is academic motivation, followed by school satisfaction. The present study highlighted the necessity to develop academic achievement improvement programs appropriate for both genders of senior high school students.

A Survey on Smoking Status and Its Related Factors for Female Students of A Women's University in Seoul (일부 여대생의 흡연실태와 그 관련요인 분석)

  • In order to find smoking status and its related factors for female students, a survey was conducted for 1,045 female students of a women's university in Seoul from 22nd of May to 18th of June, 1995. The results were as follows: 1. Of the 1,045 respondents, 7.4% of them were current smokers and 20.6% of them were ex-smokers. The rate of smoking by the major field of study was 18.5% in art and physical education, 10.6% in liberal art and social science, 1.9% in natural science, and 1.2% in medical science. The rate of smoking by the grade was 4.1% in the freshman, 5.9% in the sophomore, 10.9% in the junior, and 10.0% in the senior grade. 2. 7.2% of respondents experienced first smoking at junior high school, 16.8% at senior high school, 4.1% after high school, and 69.2% at college. 3. The major motivation to start smoking was 'curiosity'(57.9%), 'releasing stress'(21.6%), and 'temptation from friend or senior'(12.0%). 4. The first smoking place was 'entertainment place'(49.6%), 'own room'(20.5%), and 'school '(11.3%). And the first smoking companion was 'friend'(62.3%), 'alone'(19.9%), and 'senior or junior'(5.1%). 5. The average quantity of a daily smoking was 6.16±5.29 cigarettes in current smokers and 31.2% of them had experience to quit smoking at least one or more time. 6. Most of the reasons to quit smoking in ex-smoker were due to 'bad taste '(60.5%), 'health concern'(27.4%) and 'religion'(2.3%). 7. Current smoker and ex-smoker had more positive attitude for the female smoking than nonsmoker. And 76.7% of nonsmokers answered that they would not smoke in the future. 8. Most correspondents(89.8% of nonsmoker, 83.7% of ex-smoker, 80.5% of current smoker) strongly supported the antismoking movement. 9. The major information source in smoking were from 'radio, TV'(51.0%), 'newspaper, magazine'(38.8%) and 'school'(7.7%). 10. The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the related factors for smoking status were satisfaction of home life, coffee intake, alcohol drinking, sister's smoking, girl friend's smoking, and knowledge about smoking.

Investigation and Analysis of Mathematics Application Ability of Student of Senior One

  • Students' mathematics application ability is a hot spot which mathematics education pays attention. So, I have carried on the test of mathematics application and the questionnaire survey to student of Senior One of the two middle schools. Through the test and the investigation, I discover that the level of the students' mathematics application ability is not high. To the simple application question, the difference of the male and the female is not big, but to the difficult application question, the male and the female has the remarkable difference. The students' lack of flexible and the original cognition monitoring ability in mathematics application process are afraid of studying mathematics application since childhood and lack of the training of this aspect. They thought mathematics foundation and reading understood ability is the key of mathematics application. Through analysis result of investigation, this paper proposed the way to raise mathematics application ability of students.

Oral Cancer Knowledge of Senior Dental Students in Zahedan, South-East of Iran

  • Background: Oral carcinoma is one of the common types of cancer and one of the 10 leading causes of death around the world. This study was conducted to evaluate senior dental student knowledge about oral cancerous lesions in Zahedan Dental School. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional research, all the students in the last academic year at the School of Dentistry were studied during year of 2013. The study questionnaire covered demographic data as well as 12 questions concerning the knowledge of oral cancer. Data were collected and analyzed with SPSS18 using independent t-test, one way ANOVA. Significance level was considered as $p{\leq}0.05$. Results: Of the 104 senior dental students, with an average age of $27.34{\pm}7.79$ years, who participated in this study, 32 (30.8%) were female and 72 (69.2%) were male. The mean score of the students regarding the knowledge of oral cancer was $7.24{\pm}2.61.20$ students (19.2%) had a weak knowledge, 45 students (43.3%) had a moderate knowledge, and 39 students (37.5%) had a good knowledge. Conclusions: The student knowledge of oral cancer is not satisfactory and they need to receive additional information and education.

Bridging the Age-Related Communication Gap: An Encounter Between Senior Citizens and Communication Students Towards Social Integration

  • This paper is built upon an attempt to answer the question: "What can be done to facilitate social integration between the elderly of Bagac, Bataan and the communication students of St. Paul University Manila?" The research was designed as a qualitative inquiry that involved an outreach activity by 24 dominantly female students of Development Communication to the senior citizens of Bagac, Bataan (Philippines) and a reflection period involving the students. The students were tasked to pay special attention to the digital engagements and/or disengagements of the elderly to allow them to learn more about the difficulties and potential of using social media in development-related projects involving senior citizens. The actual two-hour encounter involved socialization between the elderly and the students. The students, prior to the encounter, were tasked to generate the funds, use them to acquire and prepare the gifts, develop the program during the actual encounter based on research-based guidelines, and photo document the entire activity. They were given guide questions for reflections a week after. The reflections were thematically analyzed and revealed that in order to facilitate greater social integration between the elderly and the communication students. The university should address the health and digital aversion issues that intensify the sense of isolation of the elderly experience daily. This can be done by enhancing the communication skills of the communication students in 16 areas.

Occupational Outlooks of Senior High School Female Students (일반계와 실업계 고등학교 여학생의 직업관 비교)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in individuals and family characteristics between general and vocational high school female students, and the impacts of the characteristics on the their occupational outlook. The number of 792 female students in 4 general and 5 vocational high schools in Chongju area were sampled during September 6-10, 1993. There are more differences in family characteristics rather than individual characteristics between two types of high school female students. Both family and individual characteristics influence the occupational outlooks of the respondents. Therefore, the types of school affect their occupational outlooks. Over 50% of vocational students want to have a junior college education.
