  • The elder population is growing rapidly in Korea nowadays. Therefore, a demand for adaptable installation standard of residential space for the elderly is increasing with growth of the elder population. This study analyzed actual state by interviewing manager, surveying actual measurement and using draft of Elderly nursing facility which is for senile patients. As a result of the survey for size and facilities, facilities for elderly safety, accommodation per a person and room size per a person are below to standard. Therefore, establishing adaptable design standard is needed which is to make safe and fresh living environment for the elderly.

  • The aging of population in Korea is proceeding in such a fast speed that other developed countries kaven't experienced. Korea already emerged in the aging society in 2000, and expected to become an aged society in 2019.There(ore, making effort to improve the quality of life of the aged people tv prolonging their social, economic activity, resulting in retrenchment of expenditure on health is very important. Developing nutrition and exercise programs to improve the quality of life of the elderly people, resulting in prolonged independent life is as important as medical care after onset of diseases. As a national preventive measure to save elderly people from becoming in need of assist, comprehensive program including teaching computer to prevent senile dementia, nutritional and exercise programs, along with programs of everyday life activity for the risk-group people should be carried out,

  • The two major symptoms characterizing Alzheimer's disease are the formation of amyloid-${\beta}$ extracellular deposits in the form of senile plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) that consist of pathological hyperphosphorylated tau protein aggregated into insoluble paired helical filaments (PHFs). Neurons of the central nervous system have appreciable amounts of tau protein, a microtubule-associated protein. To maintain an optimal operation of nerves, the microtubules are stabilized, which is necessary to support cell structure and cellular processes. When the modified tau protein becomes dysfunctional, the cells containing misfolded tau cannot maintain cell structure. One of the pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease is hyperphosphorylated tau protein. This paper shows that the small heat shock protein from humans (Hsp27) reduces hyperphosphorylated tau and prevents hyperphosphorylated tau-induced cell death of the human neuroblastoma cell line SH-SY5Y.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest a future senior housing plan by examining the preference of aged women in urban areas. The subjects were 465 elderly women in Seoul and statistics employed for the analysis were frequencies, means, Chi-square test, multiple regression analysis. Results were as follows : The respondents prefered senior housing located in suburbs. The most important locational factors were accessibility to garden and the aged women wanted living 20 minutes apart by walking or driving from their children's house. There was a tendency of moving toward three-generation house sharing kitchen and enterence with their children or assisted living which cared by warden as they get senile -living alone, poor income and poor health condition-.

  • Inflammatory as well as oxidative tissue damage has been implicated in pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD), and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have been reported to have beneficial effects in the treatment or prevention of AD. In the present study, we investigated the effect of celecoxib, a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, on inflammatory cell death induced by beta-amyloid, a neurotoxic peptide associated with senile plaques formed in the brains of patients with AD.(omitted)

  • Inflammatory as well as oxidative tissue damage has been associated with pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD), and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have been shown to retard the progress of AD. In this study, we have investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying oxidative and inflammatory cell death induced by beta-amyloid (Abeta), a neurotoxic peptide associated with senile plaques formed in the brains of patients with AD, in cultured PC12 cells.(omitted)

  • In recent, growing aged people in coupled with the increased senile dementia, Alzheimer's disease, has been a social interests to be cleared out. Alzheimer Disease(AD), first reported by Alios Alzheimer (1864-1915) in 1907, is a neurodegenrative disease. Nothing exact cause of AD is available by now, but in clinical founding ${\beta}$-amyloid peptide(A${\beta}$) and microtubule associated protein($\tau$ protein) is to involved in the disease, and the most important feature in AD is Known to induce chronic inflammation to neuron cell. • $\beta$-amyloid (A$\beta$) peptide produced from amyloid precursor protein (APP) is a major cause of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Therefore, in early phase of AD, imbalance of the production and the clearance of $A\beta$ is regarded as an important factor to progressive AD presenting senile plaque, a hallmark of AD. In the present study, we wanted to verify whether Rg3 can playa role in helping microglia engulfing $A\beta$ peptides. Validations for the study was conducted by using DiI-Ac-LDL, which attached only on type A macrophage scavenger receptor (MSR-A) and ligands for he receptor, fucoidan. (omitted)

  • Currently, as Korea enters into a fast aging society, the problem of dementia population is increasing. In this paper, we intend to contribute to the improvement of welfare for the elderly by developing virtual reality technology and related interface technology to effectively perform hand movements known as effective methods for preventing and treating dementia. As the content of the research and development of this paper, it is designed to be easy for the elderly to use and stimulate brain function by applying VR technology using sensors, and to activate mental and physical activities for the elderly who are marginalized in terms of cultural welfare. We intend to develop by classifying the types of games and contents that can induce them. As a result of this thesis, we developed contents using virtual reality to improve cognitive abilities for elderly people with poor cognitive ability to activate the brains of users' cognition, memory, and attention to prevent and treat dementia I want to contribute.
