  • To improve mean-life and reliability of power cable, we have investigated specific heat (Cp) and thermal conductivity of XLPE insulator and semiconducting materials in 154(kV) underground power transmission cable. Specimens were respectively made of sheet form with EVA, EEA and EBA added $30[wt\%],$ carbon black, and the other was made of sheet form by cutting XLPE insulator in 154(kV) power cable. Specific heat (Cp) and thermal conductivity were measured by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and Nano Flash Diffusivity. Specific-heat measurement temperature ranges of XLPE insulator were from $20[^{\circ}C]\;to\;90[^{\circ}C],$ and the heating rate was $1[^{\circ}C/mon].$ And the measurement temperatures of thermal conductivity were $25[^{\circ}C],\;55[^{\circ}C]\;and\;90[^{\circ}C].$ In case of semiconducting materials, the measurement temperature ranges of specific heat were from $20[^{\circ}C]\;to\;60[^{\circ}C],$ and the heating rate was $1[^{\circ}C/mon].$ And the measurement temperatures of thermal conductivity were $25[^{\circ}C],\;55[^{\circ}C].$ In addition we measured matrix of semiconducting materials to show formation and growth of carbon black in base resins through the SEM. From these experimental results, both specific heat and thermal conductivity were increased by heating rate because volume of materials was expanded according to rise in temperature.

  • Linear carbon chains (LCCs) encapsulated inside the hollow cores of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been experimentally synthesized and structurally characterized by Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. However, in terms of electronic conductivity, their transportation mechanism has not been investigated theoretically or experimentally. In this study, the density of states and quantum conductance spectra were simulated through density functional theory combined with the non-equilibrium Green function method. The encapsulated LCCs inside (5,5), (6,4), and (9,0) single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) exhibited a drastic change from metallic to semiconducting or from semiconducting to metallic due to the strong charge transfer between them. On the other hand, the electronic change in the conductance value of LCCs encapsulated inside the (7,4) SWCNT were in good agreement with the superposition of the individual SWCNTs and the isolated LCCs owing to the weak charge transfer.

  • To measure elastic properties of semiconducting materials in power cable, we have investigated modulus of EBA/carbon black composite showed by changing the content of carbon black. The specimen was primarily kneaded in material samples of pellet form for 5 minutes on rollers ranging between 70[$^{\circ}C$] and 100[$^{\circ}C$]. Then this was produced as sheets after pressing for 20 minutes at 180[$^{\circ}C$] with a pressure of 200[kg/cm]. The contents of conductive carbon black were 20, 30 and 40[wt%], respectively. The modulus experiment was measured by DMA 2980. The ranges of measurement temperature were from -50[$^{\circ}C$] to 100[$^{\circ}C$] and measurement frequency is 1 [Hz]. The modulus of specimens was increased according to an increment of carbon black content And modulus was rapidly decreased at the glass transition temperature. The tan$\delta$ of specimens was decreased according to an increment of carbon black content.

  • Dielectrophoretic behavior of semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNT) was investigated theoretically and experimentally. The surface conductance of nanotubes was modulated using anionic and cationic surfactant mixtures. The experimental results indicate that dielectrophoretic behavior of SWNT highly depends on the procedure of mixing two opposite-charged surfactants. Clausius-Mossotti factor was calculated by measuring zeta potentials and solution conductivity. Raman spectroscopy was used to characterize the dielectrophoretically deposited nanotubes arrary. We found that metallic nanotubes were selectively separated from the nanotubes suspension, resulting from modulation of surface conductance of semiconducting SWNT.

  • In this paper, we have investigated thermal properties by changing the content of carbon nanotube, which is component part of semiconductive shield in underground power transmission cable. Heat capacity (${\Delta}H$), glass transition temperature (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) were measured with the samples of eight, through DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), and the measurement ranges of temperature selected from $-100[^{\circ}C]\;to\;100[^{\circ}C]$ with heating temperature selected per $4[^{\circ}C/min]$ Also, high temperature, heat degradation initiation temperature, and heat weight loss were measured by TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) in the temperature from $0[^{\circ}C]\;to\;700[^{\circ}C]$ with rising temperature of $10[^{\circ}C/min]$. As a result, the Glass transition temperatures of the sample were showed near $-20[^{\circ}C]{\sim}25[^{\circ}C]$, and the heat capacity and melting temperature from the DSC was increased according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube, while, thermal diffusivity was increased according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube. Also, heat degradation initiation temperature from the TGA results was increasing according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube with CNT/EEA. Therefore, heat stabilities of EVA, which contained the we VA (vinyl acetate), showed the lowest.

  • Based on the differential electrode equilibria approach, potentiometric YSZ sensors with semiconducting oxide electrodes for CO detection are developed. To improve the selectivity, sensitivity and response-time of the sensor, our strategy includes (a) selection of an oxide with a semiconducting response to CO, (b) addition of other semiconducting materials, (c) addition of a catalyst (Pd), (d) utilization of combined p- and n-type electrodes in one sensor configuration, and (e) optimization of operating temperatures. Excellent sensing performance is obtained by a novel device structure incorporating $La_2CuO_4$ electrodes on one side and $TiO_2$-based electrodes on opposite substrate faces with Pt contacts. The resulting response produces additive effects for the individual $La_2CuO_4$ and $TiO_2$-based electrodes voltages, thereby realizing an even higher CO sensitivity. The device also is highly selective to CO versus NO with minor sensitivity for NO concentration, compared to a notably large CO sensitivity.

  • We developed a simple and effective purification method to obtain high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with low surface damage. The purification process consists of oxidization at $430^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in a furnace system of air atmosphere and homogenization in dilute hydrochloric acid solution for extremely short time. The role of homogenizer was examined during purification process in terms of purity and quality of purified SWCNTs. High-purity and low surface damage of SWCNT products was obtained using homogenizer which was operated at 8500 rpm for 10 min in the environment of 7 % HCI solution. From XRD spectra, we observed that metal catalysts were thoroughly removed. Raman spectra showed that the intensity values of crystallization ($I_{G}/I_{D}$) of purified SWCNTs were very similar with that of pristine SWCNTs. Moreover, the structure damage of purified SWCNTs was hard to find from electron microscopy. Consequently, homogenizing, which is a quick and simple manner, can be promising method for obtaining final SWCNTs with clearly high purity and crystallinity.
