The Semantic Web has the objective of developing universal media in which machine-processable semantic information can be represented and shared, and it is therefore important to distribute ontologies that represent this kind of semantic information to the Web and make them available to multiple parties. However, the current ontology authoring tools are not operating on the Web, which makes it difficult to distribute ontologies directly to the Web and to create and edit them collaboratively with other people. This paper proposes a framework that facilitates the ontology construction and sharing, realizing easy distribution of ontologies to the Web. Wiki is one of the frameworks for collaborative construction and sharing of knowledge on the Web, and Wiki contents consist of natural language texts and simple markup language for visualization. For better collaboration in creating and sharing ontologies, this paper suggests the Semantic Wiki that embodies the Semantic Web features to the existing Wiki system. The Semantic Wiki framework facilitates the collaboration in ontology co-authoring and sharing for people, and at the same time, makes it possible for the agent software to easily manage the ontology information. Eventually, the Semantic Wiki system accomplishes various tasks including the semantic view, the semantic navigation, and the semantic query.
Semantic web portal is expected to overcome the shortcomings of the current web portals through advanced semantic web technologies and to be an effective and efficient method of knowledge sharing. In order to contribute to the knowledge sharing, semantic web portal needs to construct and integrate ontologies of each organization. Also, it needs to support search and navigation of inter-related knowledge. In this paper, we will design a semantic web portal that satisfies such requirements in the domain of display industry, and construct an ontology which links various knowledge of different fields. Moreover, we want to suggest an effective and automatic search/navigation method that supports customers who do not know the details of an ontology to easily get the desired results.

To facilitate the processes of e-learning resource description, discovery and reuse, e-learning objects should be appropriately described and classified using standard metadata that need to be published in a registry to reduce duplication of effort and enhance semantic interoperability. This paper describes how standard ebXML registries can be used for semantic grid computing for annotating, storing, discovering and retrieving e-learning object metadata. For semantic annotation of e-learning objects, IEEE Learning Object Metadata (LOM) is adopted as the metadata ontology. In order to support the e-learning metadata ontology in interoperable ebXML registries, a mapping scheme between LOM and ebXML Registry Information Model (RIM) is proposed. The usefulness of sharing e-learning object metadata is demonstrated by prototyping a semantic registry based on the scheme.

In collaborative environment, it is necessary that the participants in collaboration should share the same understanding about the semantics of terms. For example, they should know that 'Part' and 'Item' are different word-expressions for the same meaning. In this paper, we consider sharing between CAD and PDM data. In order to handle such problems in information sharing, an information system needs to automatically recognize that the terms have the same semantics. Serving this purpose, the semantic mapping logic and the ontology based mapper system is described in this paper. In the semantic mapping logic topic, we introduce our logic that consists of four modules: Character Matching, Instance Reasoning, definition comparing and Similarity Checking. In the ontology based mapper, we introduce the system architecture and the mapping procedure.

The difficulty of "information sharing", "information reusing" issues happening in Wireless Sensor Network is due to the heterogeneity of the application environment, data processing, communication protocol etc. Based on the introduction of the Ontology theory, though analyzing the sensor characteristic a general type of sensor ontology contains the definition of concept, frame structure and OWL design was proposed from the standpoint of sensor observation. The paper expounded a system framework of the domain ontology through the expansion of knowledge base on the general sensor could achieve the information sharing and reuse by semantic communication between the general sensor ontology and user. The research of this method would bring new idea to the semantic sensor network construction.

Today, it is difficult to re-use and share spatial information, because of the explosive growth of heterogeneous information and specific characters of spatial information accumulated by diverse local agency. A spatial analysis of subsurface spatial informa-tion, one of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, needs related spatial information such as, topographical map, geologic map, underground facility map, etc. However, current methods using standard format or spatial datawarehouse cannot consider a se-mantic hetergenity. In this paper, the layered ontology model which consists of generic concept, measuremnt scale, spatial model, and subsurface spatial information has developed. Also, the current ontology building method pertained to human experts is a expensive and time-consuming process. We have developed the MDA-based metamodel(UML Profile) of ontology that can be a easy under-standing and flexiblity of environment change. The semantic quality of devleoped ontology model has evaluated by reasoning engine, Pellet. We expect to improve a semantic sharing, and strengthen capacities for developing GIS experts system using knowledge representation ability of ontology.
The amount of Meta-data to be managed increases with development of information technology. However, when trying to integrate and share product information of heterogeneous systems within or between companies, sharing of information is impossible if product information classification systems are different. Due to the situation mentioned above, engineers judge the product information classification system and maps corresponding Meta-data for document-based sharing. Judging exponentially increasing amount of data by engineers and sharing product information using documents create great amount of time delay and errors in data handling. Therefore, construction of a system for integrated management and interoperability between product information based on semantic information similar to engineer's judgment is required. This paper proposes a methodology and necessity of a system for interoperability of product information based on semantic web, and also designs a system to integrate heterogeneous systems with different product information using rule based reasoning. This paper also suggests a system base for interoperability and integration of product information between heterogeneous systems by integrating the product information classification system semantically.
This paper describes a GIS framework for geo-semantic information retrieval in mobile computing environments. We built geographic ontologies of POI (point of interest) and weather information for use in the combination of semantic, spatial, and temporal functions in a fully integrated database. We also implemented a geo-semantic app for Android-based smartphones that can extract more appropriate POIs in terms of user contexts and geographic ontologies and can visualize the POIs using Google Maps API (application programming interface). The feasibility tests showed our geo-semantic app can provide pertinent POI information according to mobile user contexts such as location, time, schedule, and weather. We can discover a baking CVS (convenience store) in the test of bakery search and can find out a drive-in theater for a not rainy day, which are good examples of the geo-semantic query using semantic, spatial, and temporal functions. As future work, we should need ontology-based inference systems and the LOD (linked open data) of various ontologies for more advanced sharing of geographic knowledge.

This paper introduces an approach to semantic mapping using Product ontology for CPC environment. In CPC environment, it is necessary that the participants in a product life cycle should share the same understanding about the semantic of product terms. For example, they should know that although 'COMPONENT' and 'ITEM' are different word-expressions, they could have the same meaning. In order to handle such terms in the information system, it is desirable that the system automatically recognizes that the terms have the same semantics. Serving this purpose, we described an ontology design methodology using first order logic, knowledge interchange format, and knowledge engineering process. In our approach, we investigated domain knowledge of the Bill Of Material, and then designed Product ontology of it. Based on the ontology, we described syntactic translation, semantic translation, and semantic mapping procedure with an example.
Constructing an ontology using a mass corpus begins with an automatic semantic relation extraction. A general method regards words appearing between terms as patterns which are used to extract semantic relations. However, previous approaches consider only one sentence to extract a pattern, so they cannot extract semantic relations for terms in different sentences. This paper proposes a semantic relation extraction method using pairs of patterns sharing a term, where each pattern is extracted using one of the seed term pair satisfying the target relation. In our experiments, we achieved the accuracy 83.75% improving previous methods by 7.5% in is-${\alpha}$ relation and the accuracy 83.75% improved by 5% in part-of relation. We also present a possibility of improving the recall by the relative recall.
