  • Semantic Web and its related technologies have been opening the era of information sharing via Web. In the meantime, there are several huddles to overcome toward the new era and one of the major huddles is information integration issue unless we build and use a single unified but huge ontology which address everything in the world. Particularly in e-business area, information integration problem must be a great concern in search and comparison of products from various internet shopping sites and e-marketplaces. To overcome such an information integration problem, we propose an ontology driven mapping algorithm between heterogeneous product classification and description frameworks. We also perform comparative evaluation of the proposed mapping algorithm against a well-known ontology mapping tool, PROMPT.

  • The Research on the ICT(Information & Communication Technology) is proposed the category to IT839 strategy by Government. Government is driving to researching on technology about IT839 Strategy. By transforming this category and research information into Semantic Web environment, it is possible to search function utilizing knowledge base and information object by use of TBox and ABox. In this regard, this study proposes technology for generation of Semantic Web Document about ICT Research Information. The ontology is constructed by using category to IT839 Strategy. The features of framework proposed in this study is to have used a skill to directly map Ontology instance and in case of inability of direct mapping, proposed a skill to establish reliable Semantic Web Document by suggesting indirect mapping skill using mechanical study. In addition, it is possible to establish low cost/high quality Semantic Web Document about ICT research information.

  • This paper contains an analysis of the methods that have been used to achieve or improve interoperability among metadata and discuss the possibilities and limits of semantic interoperability among metadata using crosswalk. After that a semantic metadata mapping process which is able to maximize the interoperability among metadata is suggested. The methodology consists of four steps such as identifying metadata schema, finding common data element concepts(DECs), grouping attributes by the DECs, and mapping into a table. An experimental application of the process was performed onto two human resource information metadata standards developed in Korea.

  • This paper describes a sensor fusion-based semantic map building which can improve the capabilities of a mobile robot in various domains including localization, path-planning and mapping. To build a semantic map, various environmental information, such as doors and cliff areas, should be extracted autonomously. Therefore, we propose a method to detect doors, cliff areas and robust visual features using a laser scanner and a vision sensor. The GHT (General Hough Transform) based recognition of door handles and the geometrical features of a door are used to detect doors. To detect the cliff area and robust visual features, the tilting laser scanner and SIFT features are used, respectively. The proposed method was verified by various experiments and showed that the robot could build a semantic map autonomously in various indoor environments.

  • For the robust exchange of parametric CAD model data, it is very important to perform mapping rightly and accurately between different CAD models. However, data model mapping is usually performed on a case-by-case basis. This results in the problem that mapping quality fluctuates very widely depending on the abilities of developers. In order to solve this problem, the concept of symantic distance is adapted and applied to the translation of parametric CAD model data in order to measure the difference between different CAD models quantitatively in a computer-interpretable form and systematize the mapping process.

  • The primary goal of this paper is to propose methods of enriching two heterogeneous ontologies: Sejong Semantic Classes (SJSC) and KorLexNoun 1.5 (KLN). In order to achieve this goal, this study introduces the pros and cons of two ontologies, and analyzes the error patterns found during the fine-grained manual mapping processes between them. Error patterns can be classified into four types: (1) structural defectives involved in node branching, (2) errors in assigning the semantic classes, (3) deficiency in providing linguistic information, and (4) lack of the lexical units representing specific concepts. According to these error patterns, we propose different solutions in order to correct the node branching defectives and the semantic class assignment, to complement the deficiency of linguistic information, and to increase the number of lexical units suitably allotted to their corresponding concepts. Using the results of this study, we can obtain more enriched ontologies by correcting the defects and errors in each ontology, which will lead to the enhancement of practicality for syntactic and semantic analysis.

  • For the expansion of the Semantic Web, studies in converting the data stored in the relational database into the ontology are actively in process. Such studies mainly use an RDB to RDF mapping model, the model to map relational database components to RDF components. However, pre-proposed mapping models have got different expression modes and these damage the accessibility and reusability of the users. As a consequence, the necessity of the standardized mapping language was raised and the W3C suggested the R2RML as the standard mapping language for the RDB to RDF model. The R2RML has a characteristic that converts only the relational database schema data to RDF. For the same reasons above, the ontology about the relation data between table name and column name of the relational database cannot be added. In this paper, we propose an RDB to RDF mapping system considering semantic relations of RDB components in order to solve the above issue. The proposed system generates the mapping data by adding the RDFS attribute data into the schema data defined by the R2RML in the relational database. This mapping data converts the data stored in the relational database into RDF which includes the RDFS attribute data. In this paper, we implement the proposed system as a Java-based prototype, perform the experiment which converts the data stored in the relational database into RDF for the comparison evaluation purpose and compare the results against D2RQ, RDBToOnto and Morph. The proposed system expresses semantic relations which has richer converted ontology than any other studies and shows the best performance in data conversion time.

  • Recently, XML has been emerging as a standard for storing and exchanging of data for various distributed applications based on the Internet. Since there are increasing demands to store and manage XML documents, a lot of research works are going on this area to develop new took and techniques based on the XHL. However, most of the researches are concentrated on mapping techniques based on instance or DTD, and the main focus is on structural transformation. Current trend of research is toward the usage of XML documents based on XML schema, and demands not only conversion of structure but also preservation of the semantic constraints. This paper sets up the using of DIDL standing on the basis of XML schema from MPEG-21 as an application domain, and proposes the mapping model that can preserve semantic constraints in addition. We expand previous research techniques in the preprocessing step for the specific domain, and then, apply various new mapping methods in the postprocessing step. We present and discuss the system architecture for implementation, and introduce the algorithms and present implementation environment and semantic extension methodology in detail. Finally we show actual table and query processing based on our proposal.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of implementing semantic mapping reading strategy in the science class on high school students' science text reading ability. 3rd grade students of science core high school in a small and medium-sized city participated in this study for a semester. Texts with socio-scientific issues and chemistry subjects were used to implement semantic mapping reading strategy in the science class. To investigate the changes in students' science text reading ability, experimental group students participated in the pre-reading and post-science reading ability tests and the results were analyzed. The results of this study showed that the mean of the science reading ability test score of experimental group was significantly higher than that of the comparison group. We found that drawing a semantic mapping before solving a reading task made it easier for students to find information and infer meaning from text. It can be seen that students also recognize that the semantic mapping is helpful in understanding the text because it is easy to understand the relationship between concepts by visualizing the content of the text, and can connect their background knowledge with the text content.

  • This paper reviews Grammatical Mapping theory, a recently proposed theoretical paradigm for understanding children's acquisition of syntax, and ventures to apply the theory to the acquisition of semantics. Particularly, we focused on the domain of space, and proposed how children might acquire a unique system of spatial words in their mother tongue. Based on our review of evidence, we propose that there may be universal semantic primitives that serve as foundations of word meanings. We also propose that children must learn their mother tongue's semantic category system of spatial relations, from real time data. Finally, we argue that children's learning of word meanings may involve creation of a theory that makes sense to the child, and that this process of theory creation is possibly guided by universal principles and parameters.
