Assignment Semantic Category of a Word using Word Embedding and Synonyms (워드 임베딩과 유의어를 활용한 단어 의미 범주 할당)

  • Semantic Role Decision defines the semantic relationship between the predicate and the arguments in natural language processing (NLP) tasks. The semantic role information and semantic category information should be used to make Semantic Role Decisions. The Sejong Electronic Dictionary contains frame information that is used to determine the semantic roles. In this paper, we propose a method to extend the Sejong electronic dictionary using word embedding and synonyms. The same experiment is performed using existing word-embedding and retrofitting vectors. The system performance of the semantic category assignment is 32.19%, and the system performance of the extended semantic category assignment is 51.14% for words that do not appear in the Sejong electronic dictionary of the word using the word embedding. The system performance of the semantic category assignment is 33.33%, and the system performance of the extended semantic category assignment is 53.88% for words that do not appear in the Sejong electronic dictionary of the vector using retrofitting. We also prove it is helpful to extend the semantic category word of the Sejong electronic dictionary by assigning the semantic categories to new words that do not have assigned semantic categories.

  • The Research on the ICT(Information & Communication Technology) is proposed the category to IT839 strategy by Government. Government is driving to researching on technology about IT839 Strategy. By transforming this category and research information into Semantic Web environment, it is possible to search function utilizing knowledge base and information object by use of TBox and ABox. In this regard, this study proposes technology for generation of Semantic Web Document about ICT Research Information. The ontology is constructed by using category to IT839 Strategy. The features of framework proposed in this study is to have used a skill to directly map Ontology instance and in case of inability of direct mapping, proposed a skill to establish reliable Semantic Web Document by suggesting indirect mapping skill using mechanical study. In addition, it is possible to establish low cost/high quality Semantic Web Document about ICT research information.

Absolute categories and relative categories (절대범주와 상대범주)

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide two levels of conceptualization of a category such as an absolute category in semantic level and a relative category in pragmatic level on the basis of Aristotelian category theory and prototype category theory. I do not intend to criticize classical category theory and prototype category theory but to show that these two types of category are applied to the different world. Aristotelian categorization is an absolute category because it is based on the possible world called the meta-world and it has an absolute truth value. The members of an absolute category is presented as a set. There is a clear boundary between members and non-members because they are distinguished by the absolute criteria An absolute category is semantic conceptualization. This absolute category is changed into a relative category when it is applied in the real world. A relative category which corresponds to a prototype category is based on the real world called the object world and it has a relative truth value. Here individuals are categorized by the cognition and perception of human beings. A relative category is pragmatic conceptualization. In conclusion, while classical categories which are called absolute categories represent sentence meaning, prototype categories which are called relative categories represent utterance meaning.

Bag of Visual Words Method based on PLSA and Chi-Square Model for Object Category

  • The problem of visual words' synonymy and ambiguity always exist in the conventional bag of visual words (BoVW) model based object category methods. Besides, the noisy visual words, so-called "visual stop-words" will degrade the semantic resolution of visual dictionary. In view of this, a novel bag of visual words method based on PLSA and chi-square model for object category is proposed. Firstly, Probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis (PLSA) is used to analyze the semantic co-occurrence probability of visual words, infer the latent semantic topics in images, and get the latent topic distributions induced by the words. Secondly, the KL divergence is adopt to measure the semantic distance between visual words, which can get semantically related homoionym. Then, adaptive soft-assignment strategy is combined to realize the soft mapping between SIFT features and some homoionym. Finally, the chi-square model is introduced to eliminate the "visual stop-words" and reconstruct the visual vocabulary histograms. Moreover, SVM (Support Vector Machine) is applied to accomplish object classification. Experimental results indicated that the synonymy and ambiguity problems of visual words can be overcome effectively. The distinguish ability of visual semantic resolution as well as the object classification performance are substantially boosted compared with the traditional methods.

  • This paper reviews Grammatical Mapping theory, a recently proposed theoretical paradigm for understanding children's acquisition of syntax, and ventures to apply the theory to the acquisition of semantics. Particularly, we focused on the domain of space, and proposed how children might acquire a unique system of spatial words in their mother tongue. Based on our review of evidence, we propose that there may be universal semantic primitives that serve as foundations of word meanings. We also propose that children must learn their mother tongue's semantic category system of spatial relations, from real time data. Finally, we argue that children's learning of word meanings may involve creation of a theory that makes sense to the child, and that this process of theory creation is possibly guided by universal principles and parameters.

  • This paper deals with a semantic properties of Korea noun for semantic process in machine translation. The procedure is carried out as follow; 1) 17,000 words of Korean nouns are collected. 2) Semantic category is classifed into 39 markers. 3) We slow the redundancy of semantic properties and improve the efficiency of dictionary by marking the hierarchical concept structure.

Acquisition of Named-Entity-Related Relations for Searching

  • Named entities (NEs) are important in many Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications, and discovering NE-related relations in texts may be beneficial for these applications. This paper proposes a method to extract the ISA relation between a "named entity" and its category, and an IS-RELATED-TO relation between the category and its related object. Based on the pattern extraction algorithm "Person Category Extraction" (PCE), we extend it for solving our problem. Our experiments on Wall Street Journal (WSJ) corpus show promising results. We also demonstrate a possible application of these relations by utilizing them for semantic search.

The Characteristics of semantic association task performance in elderly with subjective memory impairment and mild cognitive impairment (주관적 기억장애 및 경도인지장애 노인의 의미연상과제 수행 특성)

  • The loss of semantic knowledge and impairments in semantic associations by semantic category is gaining increasing attention, as indicators of early-stage cognitive decline. As such, we assigned semantic association task (SAT) to normal elderly (NE) and those with subjective memory impairment (SMI) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to examine their performance by semantic subcategories and the differences in error patterns. We found a significant difference in the number of correct response and reaction time under the SAT categories among the three groups, with the highest performance observed in 'function' and the lowest performance in 'superordinate' and 'part/whole'. Moreover, the error frequency was the lowest in NE, followed by those with SMI and MCI, with the latter two groups showing a significant increase in no-response. Our findings demonstrate the varying extent and process of impairments in the semantic network by category over different stages of cognitive decline. Thus, we proposed SAT performance as an indicator to detect and follow-up on cognitive decline in elderly with cognitive disorder.

The Effect of Distinctiveness of stimulus and Partial Retrieval on Memory (자극의 구별성과 부분 인출이 기억에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study is designed to investigate the effect of perceptive, emotional and semantic distinctiveness on retrieval-induced forgetting(RIF). Experiment 1 was designed to construct a category and category list for RIF experimental paradigm and to investigate the effects of perceptual distinctness on retrieval-induced forgetting. It was used for the list consisting of the six categories and six words in each category list. In controlled conditions, all the stimuli were presented in black and Gothic. In contrast, perceptual distinctiveness conditions, half of the category list were presented in red and Gungseoche. RIF was observed in all conditions. Experiment 2 was designed to investigate the effects of semantic and emotional distinctiveness on retrieval-induced forgetting. In neutral conditions, adjectives related to items were added. In the emotional distinctiveness condition, half of the items in the category were manipulated in such a way as to add the negative adjectives. In the semantic distinctiveness condition, half of the items in the category were manipulated in such a way as to add the inappropriate adjective. As a result, RIF occurred in the neutral condition, but RIF did not occur in both the emotional discrimination condition and the semantic discrimination. These results suggest the possibility that the RIF will not occur when the distinctiveness occurs within a categorical relationship.

  • Open Market is one of the key factors to accelerate the profit. Usually retailers sell items in several Open Market. One of the challenges for retailers is to assign categories of items with different classification systems. In this research, we propose an item category recommendation method to support appropriate products category registration. Our recommendations are based on semantic relation between existing and any other Open Market categorization. In order to analyze correlations of categories, we use Morpheme analysis, Korean Wiki Dictionary, WordNet and Google Translation API. Our proposed method recommends a category, which is most similar to a guide word by measuring semantic similarity. The experimental results show that, our system improves the system accuracy in term of search category, and retailers can easily select the appropriate categories from our proposed method.
