Purpose: This study was done to confirm prenatal health management and educational needs for pregnant women with advanced maternal age (AMA) and pregnant women under 35 years of age. Methods: This study was a descriptive research in which self-report questionnaires were used. Participants were 279 pregnant women (83 AMA and 196 less than 35). Results: Only 32.5% of AMA women had received prenatal education and 51.8% reported wanting internet education. AMA women, compared to the under 35 women, had higher levels of self-awareness of health problems and possibility of health problems but lower levels of alcohol experience before pregnancy. For prenatal health management, scores were low for prenatal exercise, prenatal education and nutrition. For prenatal health management education, AMA women reported high levels of need for education on health problems. Conclusion: The results indicate that prenatal health management education must be given considering differences in age-related requirements by emphasizing health care and obstetric complications during pregnancy for AMA women and anemia and information on substance use during pregnancy for women under 35. Reliable internet-based education programs need to be developed using available information and communication technology for the increasing number of employed pregnant women.
The average smoking rate for Adults' in our country is 40.6% : It is 74.2% for men and 5.0% for women. Particularly, the smoking rate for men is reported higher than that of men in U.S.A. or Japan. Since the first report on the association between smoking and cancer appeared, 370 thousand smokers have succeeded in smoking cessation and over 90% of them have responded that they depended on a self-help smoking cessation approach. Despite this positive evidence about self- help approaches for smoking cessation, most studies on smoking cessation have focused on evaluation of formal treatment programs that are provided by clinics. Reports on the smoking cessation process used by smokers in our country could not be found. However, it is believed that the situation in our country would be quite similar to that in U.S.A. as far as approaches to successful smoking cessation are concerned. This study was conducted to classify the smoking stage to which they smoker belong and which changing mechanisms could be included at each changing stage (precontemplation stage, comtemplation stage, action stage) with a sample of 155 college students between 20 and 29 years old. And it also identified which variables related both to smoking pattern and to health, which ones were significantly discriminating in the changing stages. From the results of the data analysis it was found that Self-Determination is the most influential variable as one of the changning mechanisms which can discriminate three changing stages. And as the next significant mechanisms were Reinforcement, Dramatic Relief, Cognitive Restructuring, Helping Relationship, and Information Management in that order. Among variables related to the smoking pattern, years of regular smoking, whether smoking is continued or not even when they are sick, the number of attempts to stop smoking, number of cigarettes smoked per day, and whether they have smoked over 100 cigarettes up to now, but not the time of the first cigarette after waking-up, were the significant factors to descriminate changing stages. It was confirmed that among variables related to health that, perceived control for health, confidence of health maintence ability, and self confidence in smoking cessation, were significant variables in determinating changing stages. The most influential variables among them was self-confidence in smoking cessation. Conclusively, it was shown that smoking cessation is the process of attempting to change smoking habits through the various changing processes. Also it can be shown that a few factors smoking habit, self-confidence of smoking cessation, and belief in self control of his /her health, were influential in discriminating the changing stages of the smoking habit.
This study was conducted to test the assessment validity and examine the cut-off scores for driving risk as a part of the Self-report Assessment Forecasting Elderly Driving Risk (SAFE-DR) development project. The 132 senior drivers were categorized as either risky of 58 or safe of 74 drivers through the Drivers 65 Plus. Based on this initial assessment, we analyzed the risk prediction cut-offs. Furthermore, we tested the construct, content, and predictive validity. The cut-off score for the prediction of driving risk was found to be 74.5 points. The positive predictive value was 88.6%, and the negative predictive value was 86.3% about the cut-off score, signifying an excellent level of discrimination. Convergent validity, nomological validity, and content validity were found to be appropriate. Therefore, this study confirms that SAFE-DR is an appropriate assessment that can be used to screen dangerous elderly drivers.
Purposes: This study was designed to survey current and past health promotion programs in schools and to assess the needs of health promotion programs based upon the opinions of health teachers. Methods: Self-report questionnaire were given to health teachers who attended board meetings in each province or who participated in a qualification training course in Daegu. The questionnaire was developed by authors and revised it based on experts' advice. Results: The most common health promotion programs were sexual education, sexual violence prevention, drug abuse prevention, first aid,dental health. In contrast, many mental health promotion programs, such as suicide prevention, ADHD, and those involving personality disorders were all relatively uncommon. The needs of health promotion programs showed almost same priority with health promotion programs that are being done. Conclusions: The development of effective health promotion programs requires input from students, parents, teachers, experts, and health teachers.
The purpose of the study was to test the Pender's New Health Promotion Model in order to explain and predict female workers' health promotion behavior at manufacturing plants by using latent variable structural equation model. The data were collected from 280 female workers at 8 electronic factories located at Seoul. Kyunggi. and Incheon using a structured questionnaire through interview and self-report. LISREL was used to test the model. The results are as follows: 8 out of 15 paths of the modified one from the hypothetical model of Health Promotion were statistically significant and the total variance was 40%. The relationship between the previous health behavior and the cognitive emotional factor, and the interpersonal factor. and the situational factor each. and the relationship between perceived health status and interpersonal factor, and health promotion behavior each among gamma paths were unidirectional. On the beta paths. the relationship between the interpersonal factor and the cognitive emotional factor was bi-directional: the relationships amongst the interpersonal factor and the commitment to action, and the health promotion behavior were unidirectional. But the commitment to action was not a significant mediating factor to the health promotion behavior. Pender's New Model is considered good to explain and predict the female workers' health promotion behavior. The interpersonal factor should be considered in occupational nursing practice. But the concepts of situation and commitment to action should be further validated and measured.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual conditions and operational problems of Health Promotion Model School' in high school. Methods: We conducted a content analysis of 2014 results report and staffs' responses of five high schools among 85 'Health Promotion Model Schools' led by Ministry of Education from 2012 to 2014. Results: The study examined the operational process of health promoting schools in five stages; system development, needs survey & current status survey, school health policy development, program development & execution, and evaluation. Every step was found to be inadequate. In addition, the study discovered three key factors in operating health promoting schools and examined the status of each factor; connection with the curriculum, connection with the community, and consensus among members. Three factors were also applied poorly. Compared to elementary school, high school showed a lack of all respects. Health promoting school staffs have faced difficulties in linking community resources, organizing and operating a working committee, conducting surveys and assessing health problems, preparing self-assessment or external evaluation, and developing strategies and programs. In order to solve the operational problems, active cooperation of all teachers is urgent. Conclusion: 'Health Promotion Model School' conducted in high school is not considered to have faithfully implemented WHO's concept of health promoting school. In the future, incentive policies for health promoting school teachers should be actively reviewed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate perceptions of the self-efficacy of youth (self-confidence, self-regulatory efficacy, and task difficulty preference) and the subjective quality of life. The participants in this research were 697 university students 314 males and 383 females. All respondents submitted their answers on a self-report questionnaire. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, Pearson's correlations, and multiple regression analyses. The major results of this study were as follows: (a) Young males exhibited higher levels of self-efficacy perception compared to young females. Regarding the subjective quality of life, gender was not a significant factor. (b) The subjective quality of life was highly correlated with the self-efficacy of youth (self-confidence, self-regulatory efficacy, and task difficulty preference). (c) Self-satisfaction, self-confidence regarding one's career, satisfaction with one's friends, satisfaction with one's parental relationship, quantity of reading, and the amount of study-time all had significant influences on the self-efficacy of youth, whereas the family's socioeconomic status and campus life satisfaction were not significant factors. (d) Self-efficacy had the strongest influence on the youth subjective quality of life. Self-satisfaction, campus life satisfaction, and satisfaction with friends all had significant influences on the youth subjective quality of life, whereas the quantity of reading, the amount of study-time, self-confidence with one's career, the family's socioeconomic status, and satisfaction with one's parental relationship were not significant factors. However, self-confidence with one's career, satisfaction with one's parental relationship, the family's socioeconomic status, and quantity of reading all had different levels of influence on the subjective quality of life for young males and females.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the correlation between stress and adjustment to college life among nursing students. Methods: The sample consisted of 183 university students in C & S cities. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure the variables. In data analysis, SPSSWIN 23.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and regression analysis. Results: The mean scores of stress and adjustment to college life were 2.55 and 3.24. Stress was significantly different according to grade (F=7.30, p<.001), economic state (F=14.39, p<.001), perceived health state (F=6.66, p<.001). In regression analysis, stress for college life, perceived health state, and college life satisfaction were significant predictors of adjustment to college life explaining 68%. Conclusion: This study suggests that perceived health state was a significant factor on adjustment to college life among nursing students. Therefore, the strategies of nursing intervention which improve perceived health state must be developed for college students.

Purpose: The study sought to identify the differences in chronic diseases and physical activity in elderly women by BMI. Method: The subjects of this study were 644 elderly women 60-80-years-of-age living at home. The research instruments were physical activity levels and chronic diseases. Subjects were given a self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the SPSS win program. Result: Hypertension, prevalence of diabetes mellitus and hyperlipemia were significantly different in the subjects according to body mass index, being higher in obese subjects than in non-obese subjects. Physical activity in each of the body mass index groups did not differ significantly. Conclusion: Obesity increases the risk of chronic diseases. This knowledge could help elderly women control their weight, reduce chronic diseases, and ultimately, gain better health.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of mental health among nursing students in Korea and identify factors influencing the tendency to mental health. A self-report survey was conducted with South Korean nursing students who were from 19 to 23 years old. 269 nursing students were included in the study. The instruments utilized in the study were Symptom Checklist-90-Revision, Stress and multidimensional coping. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and Simultaneous multiple regression with SPSS WIN 20.0. The average mental health score of the participants was 0.57. Significant predictors for mental health 'College-level stress', 'Self-criticism', 'Passive withdrawal', 'Nursing satisfaction' and 'Health state'. The study findings suggest that nursing students require special concern regarding the risk of mental health. Multi and interdisciplinary mental health promotion program will enhance the mental health of nursing students.
