Using two-dimensional numerical hydrodynamic simulations, we investigate the star formation rate (SFR) in turbulent, multiphase, galactic gaseous disks. Our simulation domain is axisymmetric, and local in the radial direction and global in the vertical direction. Our models include galactic rotation, vertical density stratification, self-gravity, radiative heating and cooling, and thermal conduction, but do not include spiral-arm features. Turbulence in our models is driven by momentum feedback from supernova explosion events occurring in localized dense regions formed by thermal and gravitational instabilities. Self-consistent radiative heating, representing enhanced/reduced FUV photons from the star formation, is also taken into account. By controlling three parameters (the gas surface density, the stellar disk density, and the angular rotation rate) that characterize local galactic disks, we explore how the SFR depends on the background environmental state. We also discuss the relation between the SFR and the gas surface density found in our numerical models in comparison with observations.
Disk galaxies abound with intermediate-scale structures such as OB star complexes, giant clouds, and dust spurs in a close geometrical association with spiral arms. Various mechanisms have been proposed as candidates for their origin, but a comprehensive theory should encompass fundamental physical agents such as self-gravity, magnetic fields, galactic differential rotation, and spiral arms, all of which are known to exist in disk galaxies. Recent numerical simulations incorporating all these physical processes show that magneto-Jeans instability (MJI), in which magnetic tension resists the stabilizing Coriolis force of galaxy rotation, is much more powerful than swing-amplification or the Parker instability in forming self-gravitating intermediate-scale structures. The MJI occurring in shearing and expanding flows off spiral arms rapidly forms structures elongated along the direction perpendicular to the arms, remarkably similar to dust spurs seen in HST images of spiral galaxies. In highly nonlinear stages, these spurs fragment to form bound clumps, possibly evolving into bright arm and interarm H II regions, suggesting that all these intermediate-scale structures in spiral galaxies probably share a common dynamical origin.

This paper proposes a Self-Tuning control algorithm for tracking the reference trajectory by measuring the end-point of robot manipulator whose links are light and flexible, and the performance of it is tested through the computer simulation. As an object of system, a flexible robot manipulator with two-links is considered and an assumed mode shape method including gravity force is adopted to analyze the vibration modes for each links and dynamics equation is derived. The controller is designed as a combined form which consists of dynamic feedforward compensator and self-tuning feedback controller. The one supplies nominal torque and the other supplies variational torque to manipulator. Apart from the, K-incremental predictor is also proposed in order to eliminate the offset error. and it shows that the result of simulation adapted well to load change and rapid velocity.

The purpose of this paper is to etching SUS MASK by adding an additive (F300) to FeCl3. The equipment used in the experiment is a self-made automatic liquid management system. The automatic liquid management system is a device capable of controlling the Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) and specific gravity in real time and supplying FeCl3 and additives in a quantitative manner. SUS MASK was etched in units from 10 sheets up to 200 sheets for 1 minute. It was confirmed that when the initial SUS MASK was 10 sheets, the ORP value started with 628 mV and measured at 611 mV from the time of 40 sheets being injected, and maintained close to 610 mV up to 200 sheets. The specific gravity was maintained near 1.640. And the SUS MASK was measured close to 0.4 mm from 50 sheets to 200 sheets. The experimental conditions of ORP had a specific gravity of 610 mV, 1.463, an etching pressure of 3.0 kg/cm2, an additive (F300) ratio of 1.2%, and the hole size was measured by up to 200 sheets of 10 sheets at once etching. As a result, the diameter approached 0.4 mm from 20 sheets. Even if the number of SUS MASK was increased, the ORP and specific gravity were well controlled, and it was confirmed that the experimental target value was close to 0.4 mm.

In this paper, we propose a new deployment test equipment that is characterized for the deployment test of single large solar panel with tape spring hinge. To perform the deployment test on ground, a device that takes gravity compensation into account should be used to create a zero gravity environment similar to that in orbit. We analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the most commonly used deployment test equipment in the past through simple conceptual design, analysis, and tests to judge whether it is applicable to the deployment of the solar panel to be tested. A dummy frame was proposed to reduce the air drag effect during on-ground test and a self-aligning ball bearing and adjusting screws were applied to the deployment test equipment to solve the alignment problem with the gravity axis. And a horizontal bearing for radial movement applied to compensate for the change of the axis of the tape spring hinge. From these, we solved the problems of the conventional deployment test equipment by developing and verifying the new deployment test equipment characterized for the solar panel to be deployed in this paper.

Gravity dam use self weight to stand external force like hydraulic pressure. In general, gravity dam concrete is divided into internal and external concrete. Seongdeok dam is gravity dam which is being constructed in Cheongsong-gun, Gyeonsangbuk-do. And upstream cofferdam was constructed to examine the temperature crack due to hydration heat and to decide the height of placement. In this study, we examined the mix design of internal/external concrete and physical properties(compressive strength, adiabatic temperature rise). And we also performed laboratory tests to verify exothermic properties. Lastly, we measured the hydration heat and thermal stress of upstream cofferdam.
Liquid desiccant material, such as lithium chloride (LiCl) or halide slits are usually used on air conditioning application for controlling the humidity of high Outdoor Air (OA). Solar energy is usually used to heat the liquid in regeneration process of those desiccant. The mass transfer it self is driven by the temperature different between the liquid desiccant and the input air. This experiment study is analyzing the characteristic of the aqueous LiCl-air temperature different in variance specific gravity, especially in range of temperature different using the solar energy as the heat generator. The experiment has done by variating the concentration of the LiCl with specific gravity 1.210 and 1.150. For the comparison the pure water is also used. The result show that the mass transfer rate is increased in every variation as the increases of the temperature different, and the weeker aqueous solution of the LiCl the highest mass transfer coefficient.

The structural design of an optical-telescope assembly (OTA) for satellite laser ranging (SLR) is conducted in two steps. First, the results of a parametric study of the major design variables (e.g. dimension and shape) of the OTA part are explained, and the detailed structural design of the OTA is derived, considering the design requirements. Among the structural-shape concepts of various OTAs, the Serrurier truss concept is selected in this study, and the collimation of the telescope according to the design variables is extensively discussed. After generating finite-element models for different structural shapes, self-gravity analyses are performed. To minimize the deflection and tilt of the mirror and frame for the OTA under the limited design requirements, a parametric study is conducted according to design variables such as the shapes of the upper and lower struts and the spider vane. The structural features found in the parametric study are described. Finally, the OTA structure is designed in detail to maintain the optical alignment by balancing the gravity deflections of the upper and lower trusses using the optimal combination of the parameters. Additionally, thermal analysis of the optical telescope design is evaluated.

Since the crack self-healing materials are activated according to the exposure environmental conditions from the time of crack occurrence, it is very important to clarify the relationship between the healing performance and the exposure environmental conditions of the crack surface. In this paper, the influence of the exposure environmental conditions on the crack healing performance of self-healing repair mortar was investigated through the water permeability test. The influence of temperature and humidity on the crack width of cracked specimens was evaluated. As a result of measuring the change of the crack width, the effect of curing temperature was negligible but it was confirmed that crack-closing occurred due to the change of dry-wet condition. The healing materials produced on the crack surface of the specimens was identified as calcite minerals. Since the minerals with high density are precipitated under the influence of gravity, the healing performance is somewhat different according to the direction of the crack surface, and the healing performance was significantly improved in the wet exposure condition than the air exposure condition.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine selected people's knowledge of Influenza A(HINI), their self-efficacy, social norms, awareness of the gravity of the infection of the flu, behavioral intention, preventive behavior, the impact of their knowledge of the flu on those variables and the relationship of the variables, as the spread of the flu has been accelerated. Methods : The subjects in this study were 484 health-related majors at two selected colleges selected by random sampling from the metropolitan area. Results : As for connections between knowledge of the 2009 H1N1 and self-efficacy, the students who were knowledgeable about the flu got a mean of 3.24, and those whose knowledge was on an intermediate level got 3.08. The students who didn't know well about that got 2.91. The students who were better informed were ahead of those who were less informed in terms of self-efficacy, and the intergroup gap was statistically significant(p<0.01). In relation to self-efficacy, the better-informed students scored higher than the less-informed ones in both of the two items: whether to know how to cope with the spread of the 2009 H1N1(p<0.01), and whether to be able to be ready for the spread of it(p<0.01). The intergroup gaps were statistically significant. Conclusions : The knowledge of the students about Influence A(H1N1) and their preventive behavior were analyzed in association with the spread of the flu, and there were no differences in actual preventive behavior though they were not the same in terms of behavioral intention. Therefore health education programs should be prepared to improve not only their knowledge but their attitude and preventive skills to boost their preventive behavior.
