  • The anisotropic CdS platelets were synthesized in the lamellar bilayer phase region of the octylamine-water binary system. The influence of the synthesis conditions of the system components on morphology and size of the platelets was examined. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) studies have shown thickness and face size of the synthesized particles. Platelets with face sizes ranging from 50 to 250 nm and thickness from 10 to 30 nm have been synthesized at room temperature. In addition, HRTEM micrographs show that the synthesized platelets are poly crystal.

  • As a quality of dyadic relationships in the family, individuation refers to the interplay between the connectedness and separateness of family members. The aims of this study were: 1) to develop of the newly measure of Korean late adolescent's individuation; 2) to examine the reliability and validity of the newly developed measure. 435(165 male, 270 female) college students completed the Korean Late Adolescent Individuation Questionnare(KLAIQ), and Korean version of the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire(SACQ), and Korean version of the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire(SACQ). Using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis three subdimensions of individuation were identified: Connectedness(7items), Self-confidence(5 items), and Parent control(4 items). A total 16 items of the KLAIQ were found to have acceptable reliability and face and construct validity. A total 16 items of the KLAIQ were found to have acceptable reliability and face and construct validity. Scale scores from the KLAIQ correlated in the predicted pattern with the SACQ. Individuated students demonstrated the highest college adjustment scores while ambiguous students yielded the lowest. Therefore, it would appear that the KLAIQ can adequately measure individuation in Korean late adolescence.

  • This study explored social media use among 50 adolescents attending a public high school in a non-Western community. Adolescents participated in focus group interviews and completed a written self-report survey. Findings revealed that these teenagers use electronic communication forms such as phone texting and social networking sites to connect with friends and family. They show a preference for Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, do not engage in risky Internet behavior, and acknowledge both positive and negative aspects of electronic communication forms. In addition, their selection of electronic communication forms is dependent upon several factors that include the strength of the relationship and type of discourse exchange. For example, they reserve phone texting and cell use, which are more private communication mediums for family and friends. Electronic communication did not replace face-to-face interactions; rather it complemented and extended those interactions. Findings support existing literature on adolescent social media use and those shared with other collectivist cultural groups.

  • The persistence of the employment shock by COVID-19 has various policy implications during the pandemic and beyond it. After evaluating the impact of the health crisis at the individual level, this study decomposes employment losses into persistent and transitory components using the observed timing of the three major outbreaks and subsequent lulls. The estimation results show that while face-to-face services were undoubtedly hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis, the sectoral shock was less persistent for temporary jobs and self-employment. Permanent jobs in the hard-hit sector showed increasingly large persistent losses through the recurring crises, indicating gradual changes in employer responses. The persistent job losses were concentrated on young and older workers in career transitions, whose losses are likely to have long-term effects. These results suggest that targeted measures to mitigate the persistent effects of the employment shock should take priority during the recovery process.

  • This is a summary of a comparative study of the national policies to foster the agri-food industry implemented by the leading countries of the industry before and after the COVID-19-induced global economic crisis. By comparing the policies of each country, we discovered that key leading countries of the agri-food industry had given up or suspended one-on-one, face-to-face support programs that they had maintained for years, and have started providing financial assistance to companies or self-employed people in relative industries. Korea should implement such decisive policies for the Korean agri-food industry to tackle this unprecedented economic shrink and maintain the competitiveness of the industry. Considering the scale and speed of the spreading of the pandemic, the new policies should be implemented swiftly and boldly. This study can be used as a base material for developing new policies to minimize damage to the agri-food industry and national economy caused by COVID-19.

  • This study introduces a tool wear monitoring technology in face milling operation comprised of an unsupervised neural network. The monitoring system employs two types of sensor signal such as cutting force and acceleration in sensory detection state. The RMS value and band frequency energy of the sensor signals are calculated for te input patterns of neural network. ART2 neural network, which is capable of self organizing without supervised learning, is used for clustering of tool wear states. The experimental results show that tool wear can be effectively detected under various cutting conditions without prior knowledge of cutting processes.
