There was a significant positive correlation between professional self-concept and professional autonomy, self-esteem and job satisfaction. Job satisfaction showed a significant positive correlation with professional autonomy and self-esteem. The significant factors influencing job satisfaction were professional self-concept, self-esteem and professional autonomy, which explained 29.5% of the variance in job satisfaction. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the important role-related variables of professional self-concept, self-esteem and professional autonomy of clinical nurses are significantly related, and that as, professional self-concept is an important factor for job satisfaction of clinical nurses, strategies to increase professional self-concept need to be developed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the concept of self-care in elders with dementia through a review of nursing literature and to provide more understanding of the definition and perspectives of the concept of self-care notion in elders with dementia. Methods: The technique developed by Walker and Avant was used as a guide in analyzing the concept of self-care. Results: Attributes of self-care in dementia may include a single or group of actions needed for sustaining life, a personal effort to maintain functional independence while minimizing other's assistance, an outcome behavior from the person's interaction with inter-personal and/or contextual environment, and a functional ability that may decline in parallel to cognitive impairment. Antecedents of self-care in dementia may include at least presence of a certain degree of cognitive appraisal for the self-care needs, self-willingness for the self-care action, spatial and visual orientation, cultural pre-conception of the self-care behavior, presence of environmental context/equipment available for self-care, and sufficient time available. The consequences may include sustaining of life, feel of satisfaction, achieving independence, extended life expectancy, increased self-confidence, decreased caregiver distress and/or burden, savings in health care costs. Discussion: Defining attributes and antecedents and consequences of self-care in dementia identified in this study provided empirical ground of a middle-range theory of self-care for a clinical population with dementia and generated possible hypotheses to be tested in future studies.

For this purpose, self-regulation program was carried at two Community Health Practitioner Post located in the suburbs of Daejeon City from September to November. 1999. Data were analyzed with non-parametric statistics, t-test, pearson correlation. The results were as follows; 1. The level of self-care was significantly different according to sex, status of smoking, and the level of self-efficacy of non-smoker was significantly higher than smoker. 2. After self-regulation program, there were significant positive relationship among self-efficacy, self-care, internal locus control, and negative relationship between perceived barrier and self-care. From these results, it can be concluded that the self-regulation program is an effective nursing strategy to promote self-care performance of hypertensives in rural area, and this program can be recommended for the management of hypertensives.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to examine self-efficacy, severity, social support, and self-care compliance of patients with liver cirrhosis and to identify the factors that affect their self-care compliance. Methods: A total of 160 outpatients with liver cirrhosis visiting the gastroenterology clinic at an university hospital located in Busan were enrolled in this study. Data were collected via self-report questionnaires including self-efficacy, severity of disease, social support, and self-care compliance measures. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff\acute{e}-test$, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: The factors affecting self-care compliance were self-efficacy, severity of disease, age, and sex. These factors explained 28.4% of the variance in self-care compliance of patients with liver cirrhosis. Conclusion: Therefore, nursing interventions that enhance patients' self-efficacy are needed to promote self-care compliance in patients with liver cirrhosis. In addition, patients must be taught of the importance of self-care compliance so that even young patients and those with relatively mild disease. That would also be motivated to comply with self-care instructions.

  • Purpose: Diabetic foot ulcers are significant problems in diabetes mellitus and often result in lower extremity amputation. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a self-care management program on Korean patient's self-efficacy, self-care behavior, size of the wound, and wound related pain. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study of pre-test and post-test design in a non-equivalent control group. The intervention strategies of the self-care management program consisted of individual intervention (education, practice and demonstration), computer animation, and face-to-face counseling. There were thirty seven patients, and 20 were assigned to the experimental group while the other 17 were assigned to the control group. The experimental group was given a self-care management program. The control group received information on diabetic mellitus care by means of a leaflet. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, a chi-square test, an independent t-test, and a Mann-Whitney test. Results: There were significant differences in self-care behavior and wound related pain. Conclusion: A Self-care program is an effective way to increase patient's self-care ability. This program is highly applicable to diabetic foot ulcer patients in various settings.

Methods: This study was a descriptive survey, and data were collected from the November 1 to December 20, 2015 using a self-reported questionnaire. The measurements were SES for self esteem, and CES-D for depression. A total of 165 middle-aged women participated through convenient sampling. Results: There were significant difference in self-esteem according to education level and monthly income. Additionally, there was an inverse correlation between stress and self esteem, as well as a significant strong correlation between self esteem, stress, social support and depression. Finally, multiple regression showed that self-esteem and stress had significant effects on depression, and their explanatory power was ${\Delta}R2(%)=47.9$ (${\Delta}F=66.526$, p<.001), p<.001). Conclusion: This study confirmed that depression was closely related to self-esteem and stress among middle-aged women. Based on these findings, we suggest that the health policies of reducing depression for middle-aged women should focus on reducing stress and reinforcing their self-esteem.

The factors of the preceptors' self-leadership affecting role recognition were self-expectation (${\beta}$=260, p=.002) and goal setting (${\beta}$=199, p=.030), and those factors accounted for 18.9% of explanatory power. The factors of self-leadership influencing job satisfaction were self-expectation (${\beta}$=18.3, p=.021), and rehearsal (${\beta}$=-168, p=.030), and those factors accounted for 31.3% of explanatory power. Among the factors of self-leadership, self-expectation influenced both role recognition and job satisfaction. Conclusions: The results of the study indicate that to improve preceptor's role recognition and job satisfaction, there should be special training programs to enhance preceptor's self leadership.
