This study was conducted to analyze the effects of parenting programs for children with disabilities through meta-regression analysis of experimental studies published in Korea. Twenty-two studies with a randomized or non-randomized control group prepost test design were included in the analysis. Parenting programs had a significant effect on parenting stress (ES= -1.08, p <.001, $I^2=67.4%$), parenting ecacy (ES=0.72, p <.001, $I^2=58.0%$) and self-esteem (ES=0.58, p =.016, $I^2=0$). The meta-regression analysis showed that research designs and therapy providers had different effects on dependent variables. Results support that parenting programs are helpful for parents of children with disabilities in reducing parenting stress and improving parenting efficacy, and self-esteem.

Adolescent psychosocial smoking prevention programs have been successful, but limited in the magnitude of program effects on the reduction of smoking behaviors. This is primarily due to the mixed results of independent studies with program variations. This systematic, quantitative research synthesis is designed to identify program key factors that are likely to increase program effects. The present study examined school-based psychosocial smoking prevention programs (1978-1997)among students in grades 6 to 12 in the United States. Theoretical formulations in this analysis of mediating effects posit that program impact on knowledge and/ or skills is associated with less smoking behaviors among program participants. Knowledge factors investigated in this study included health effects, social consequences, social influences, and social norms. Skill factors included affective skill, self-efficacy, assertiveness, self-control, problem solving, and refusal skill. The findings from this study highlight the importance of social consequences knowledge factor and assertive communication skill factor in decreasing adolescent smoking behaviors.
Although it has been noted that mentoring program is viewed as a effective way of intervention for the youth at-risk and vulnerable, few empirical studies have documented the benefits of mentoring program on youth. This research focused on effectiveness of campus-based mentoring program for children of unemployed families. It examined psychosocial benefits of mentoring program on mentor and mentee using the experimental design, posttest-only control group design. Significant differences were found between the control and intervention group. Children who have participated in mentoring program marked higher scores than control group in various psychosocial aspects including interpersonal skills, self-efficacy, sense of plan and motivation of schooling. Also university students who have participated as mentors marked higher ego-strength score than not. On the basis of these findings, this study recommended campus-based mentoring program as a effective growth-oriented program for the university students as well as the children of unemployed families.

Purpose : Asthma is one of the most common chronic childhood disease. Education of asthmatic children and their families about asthma and its management may improve disease control, reduce symptoms, and improve school performance. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of an intensive asthma education program in asthmatic children and their families on outcome measure of asthma management behavior scale, knowledge about asthma, self efficacy scale and quality of life. Methods : Fifteen asthmatic children and their families were invited the intensive asthma education program which including allergen avoidance, management of asthma, correct use of the inhalation devices and control of exercise-induced asthma (study group). Fifteen asthmatic children and their families those who did not participate this program were served as control group. Participants were asked to complete a written questionnaire before and 3-month after the program. Results : After completing the intensive education program, significant improvement of the childrens asthma management behavior scale (27.1 vs. 32.2, P=0.011), belief and knowledge about asthma (14.2 vs. 17.9, P<0.001), self efficacy (47.9 vs. 49.7, P=0.091) and quality of life (79.6 vs. 88.6, P<0.001) was noted in the study group by measuring questionnaires. There are increasing tendencies in parental asthma management behavior scale and knowledge about asthma. Conclusion : This intensive asthma education program is effective in improving asthma control, self efficacy and quality of life of asthmatic children. This should serve as a national model for family-based programs for asthmatic children and their families.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of home visiting care program provided by public health center in control of blood sugar for patients with diabetes mellitus who were cared for at home. Method: The subjects were 50 randomly selected diabetics registered at S-Gu Public Health Center. The program comprised in-person education and home visitations; and telephone contact to educate, monitor diet, exercise, blood sugar, and provide consultation. The control group was provided home visitation by only home calls nurses. The program ran from July 7. 2008 to September 12. 2008. Result: After the program, glycated hemoglobin was decreased in the experimental and control groups; the difference in those receiving home care was not statistically significant. Changes on blood cholesterol in experimental group and control groups were not statistically different. Self-efficacy and self-care performance were increased in those receiving home care. Conclusion: While not statistically significant in this small-scale study, home care for diabetes mellitus patients may promote an increased patient responsibility for self-care that is important in their long-term health.

This paper is to investigate how cognitive bias of college students and entrepreneurs relates to perceived risks and entrepreneurial opportunities that represent uncertainty, and how various cognitive bias and entrepreneurial efficacy In the same way. The purpose of this study is to find improvement points of entrepreneurship education for college students and to suggest problems and improvement possibilities in the decision making process of current entrepreneurs. This empirical study is a necessary to improve the decision-making of individuals who want to start a business at the time when various attempts are made to activate the start-up business and increase the sustainability of the existing SME management. And understanding of the difference in opportunity evaluation, and suggests that it is necessary to provide good opportunities together with the upbringing of entrepreneurs. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, questionnaires were conducted for college students and entrepreneurs. A total of 363 questionnaire data were obtained and demonstrated through structural equation modeling. This study confirms that there is some relationship between perceived risk and cognitive bias. Overconfidence and control illusions among cognitive bias have a significant relationship between perceived risk and wealth. Especially, it is confirmed that control illusion of college students has a significant relationship with perceived risk. Second, cognitive bias demonstrated some significant relationship with opportunity evaluation. Although we did not find evidence that excess self-confidence is related to opportunity evaluation, we have verified that control illusions and current status bias are related to opportunity evaluation. Control illusions were significant in both college students and entrepreneurs. Third, perceived risk has a negative relationship with opportunity evaluation. All students, regardless of whether they are college students or entrepreneurs, judge opportunities positively if they perceive low risk. Fourth, it can be seen from the college students 'group that entrepreneurial efficacy has a moderating effect between perceived risk and opportunity evaluation, but no significant results were found in the entrepreneurs' group. Fifth, the college students and entrepreneurs have different cognitive bias, and they have proved that there is a different relationship between entrepreneurial opportunity evaluation and perceived risk. On the whole, there are various cognitive biases that are caused by time pressure or stress on college students and entrepreneurs who have to make judgments in uncertain opportunities, and in this respect, they can improve their judgment in the future. At the same time, university students can have a positive view of new opportunities based on high entrepreneurial efficacy, but if they fully understand the intrinsic risks of entrepreneurship through entrepreneurial education and fully understand the cognitive bias present in direct entrepreneurial experience, You will get a better opportunity assessment. This study has limitations in that it is based on the fact that university students and entrepreneurs are integrated, and that the survey respondents are selected by the limited random sampling method. It is necessary to conduct more systematic research based on more faithful data in the absence of the accumulation of entrepreneurial research data. Second, the translation tools used in the previous studies were translated and the meaning of the measurement tools might not be conveyed due to language differences. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a more precise scale for the accuracy of the study. Finally, complementary research should be done to identify what competitive opportunities are and what opportunities are appropriate for entrepreneurs.
As overweight and obese people have increased, obesity management programs have generated much concern in Korea. Many types of obesity management programs were operated, aimed at reducing weight, BMI, body fat percentage and so on. This study was conducted to review the features of studies in obesity management programs and systematically assess the effects which were published from 1995 to 2006 in Korea. Databases were systematically searched for published data in Korea. It were KISS (Korean studies information services system) and KERIS (Korean Education research information system), which were major literature search systems for all academic fields in Korea. Total 114 studies were initially identified, of which 21 satisfied our inclusion data. The effects of obesity management programs were assessed on the results in weight, BMI (body mass index), HDL (high density lipids), body fat percentage, self-efficacy. Effect size estimated on the equation of M1 - M2 / Sp, where M1 was mean of the experimental group, M2 was the mean of control group, and Sp was the pooled standard deviation. Magnitude of effect size was interpreted by using Cohen's definition. Cohen described small, medium, and large effect sizes as 0.2, 0.5, and 0.8 respectively. The studies about obesity management programs were the most published in 2005(26.1%). Obesity management programs were popularly operated as the type of 12 weeks intervention, exercise intervention(52.4%), quasi-experimental study(85.7%). Ten studies reported significant effects on weight, and nine studies reported significant effects on BMI and HDL. Only five and three studies reported significant effects on body fat percentage and self-efficacy respectively. The effects of each outcome were generally significant when the studies included these elements, intervention over 10 weeks, evaluation over 3 times, a comprehensive program (exercise, nutrition education, behavior modification) and reinforcing factors (self-monitoring, group discussion, one's goal setting, and etc.). Effective obesity management programs should contain these essential elements and objectives of obesity management programs must be set out evident at the beginning. The participants should be registered, educated and evaluated by continuous obesity management programs.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of dietary education on improving preferences to Korean traditional foods in upper grades schoolchildren. The education group consisted of 184 children ($4^{th}$=65, $5^{th}$=50, $6^{th}$=69), while the control group consisted of 135 children ($4^{th}$=40, $5^{th}$=55, $6^{th}$=40). Each group was selected from a different school in Changwon. In the education group, 12 lessons were implemented using educational materials based on sensory education. For the evaluation, pre- and post-surveys were performed in each group using self-administered questionnaire surveys. Variables in the questionnaire consisted of self-efficacy, subjective norms, cognitive attitude, food neophobia scale, eating frequency, preference, intake experience, and nutrition knowledge. After education, the knowledge score improved significantly in both groups. However, self-efficacy (p<0.01), subjective norms (p<0.01), cognitive attitude (p<0.001) and food neophobia scale (p<0.001) changed significantly in only the education group. The intake frequency of Korean traditional foods did not significantly increase in either group. However, the preferences and intake experience of the foods, which were offered in class and school meals, changed significant in only the education group. In conclusion, dietary education based on sensory education may be useful for developing a positive eating attitude for Korean traditional foods in children.
This study examined the effects of a nutrition education program on nutrition-related knowledge, eating habits, and dietary behavior. Subjects were 3rd grade elementary school students in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do. A 5-week nutrition education program was implemented to 28 children and another 26 children were included in the study as a control group. A self-administered questionnaire was used to assess the effects of nutrition education program. Mean nutrition related knowledge score was improved after education (p < 0.001). There was a significant improvement in knowledge of nutrient source (p < 0.05), role of protein (p < 0.05), food tower (p < 0.001), getting information from nutrition labeling (p < 0.05), and proper way of snacking (p < 0.001). Eating habits and self-efficacy also tended to improve by nutrition education, especially eating habit of snack and self-efficacy on balanced diet reached significant improvement (p < 0.05). Food consumption frequency was not changed significantly, only consumption of sea weeds which is considered as a reluctant food among children was increased after education (p < 0.05). In addition, the number of leftover food items and total amount of leftover at school lunch reduced significantly after education when compared with the same 10-day menu prior to education (p < 0.01). This result suggests that unbalanced dietary behavior has been changed with the nutrition education program. In conclusion, the nutrition education program was found to be effective in improving nutrition-related knowledge, eating habits, and dietary behavior.
The Purpose of this study was to identify characteristics of fatigue and the relationship between fatigue and related factors in patients on hemodialysis. This study was a survey study using a cross-sectional design. The subjects for this study were 101 patients on hemodialysis who were registered in the six hemodialysis clinics among a total of eleven clinics in Seoul. The period of data collection was from February 28, 1995 to May 2, 1995. Data were collected through an interview with a structured packet and the physiological data. The tools used in this study were the Visual Analogue Scale-Fatigue developed by Lee et al(1990) and translated by Lee(1991), the fatigue interview schedule developed by this researcher, Zung's self rating depression scale(Zung, 1965), the self-efficacy scale developed by Sherer et al(1982) and the Norbeck Social Support Questionnaire(NSSQ) translated by Oh(1984). The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics(mean, standard deviation, frequency, range), Pearson correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows ; 1. Characteristics of Fatigue of hemodialysis patients : 1) 79 of 101 hemodialysis patients complained fatigue. 2) The mean fatigue score as measured by the VAS-F was 36.2mm. 3) The mean duration of fatigue was 2.9 hours 2. Characteristics of fatigue related factors : 1) The physiologic factor which included Hgb, Hct, BUN, creatinine, potassium and interdialytic weight gain deviated from normal range. 2) The psychological factor which included depression and self-efficacy was about the same level as for patients with other chronic diseases. 3) The environmental factor which included social support had wide variation. 3. The relationship between fatigue and related factors : 1) Interdialytic weight gain in the physiologica factor was the only valuable with fatigue (p<.05) 2) The relationship between fatigue and the psychological factor of depression showed a positive and strong correlation(p<.05). According to the findings of this study, fatigue was highly correlated with the depression. This indicates that nurses should try to assess and control psychological factors when patients complain of fatigue rather than just considering physiological factors. Nursing has to develop effective nursing interventions to reduce fatigue in patients with chronic diseases using the relationship between fatigue and physiological, psychological and environmental factors.
