  • Given the evolving nature of the family unit, a large number of children are being left unsupervised after school. The purpose of this study is to understand the adaptation ability and emotional capacity of these children. To achieve this objective, we investigated the different characteristics of 708 middle-school students in Seoul, dividing them into two categories adult-care children, for whom adults provide care after school, and self-care children for whom no adult supervision was present. In particular, we examined children's adaptation to the school environment and possible self-consciousness difference between self-care and adult-care children, in consideration of their family characteristic; divorced, separated, widowed parent, remarried parents, ordinary families. The results showed that self-care children tend to have a higher rate of shame-proneness and guilt-proneness compared to adult-care children. Furthermore, self-care children exhibited lower school adaptation rate than adult-care children. There was no significant difference in schoolmate relationships between the two groups. In relation to specific family structures, children from reorganized families showed no significant differences in school adaptation and self-conscious, while self-care children from ordinary families revealed low school adaptation and high self-conscious characteristics. The results of this study are critical in the effective analysis and understanding of children's adaptive and emotional behaviors arising from changes in their family structure.

  • Gott, Carter, Leslie, Bostrom and so on, as Descartes did, have made the evidence that is "I am here as an observer" to support many other beliefs. Bostrom and others who studied observation selection effects are missing two points. First, the self-consciousness information of the ones who just came up is distinct from that of the ones who have awoken. The awoken 'I' can trace back by memory to the past, but the 'I' who just came up can not. Second, when calculating credence, we must distinguish the ones in the possible worlds from the ones in the actual worlds. An estimate of credence where only one possible world is actualized among all possible worlds, differs fundamentally from that where all possible worlds are actualized. Keeping these two points in mind, we have explored what is the nature of the self-consciousness information of the one who just came up. We examine in depth the two human embryos thought experiment.

  • A project-learning model of web-based self-directed (WBSD) was applied to teach a theme of 'weather and climate' to high school students in four classes of the 11th grade. Results showed that the WBSD model was overall effective in improving learning ability, self-consciousness, and attitude toward school. Specifically, the results of WBSD instructions reported that there was a significant difference in 7 variables of learning ability except for action control, 3 variables of self-consciousness, and 2 variables of school attitude when compared with those of traditional instructions. In addition, the project-learning model of WBSD presented the positive effect to all leaners at any level in self-directed learning.
