  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess knowledge, attitude, correct metered dose inhaler (MDI) use and compliance with self management among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: The participants of this study consisted of 109 COPD patients who were outpatients in C and K hospital located in G city from March 1 to September 30th, 2010. Data were measured using self-administered questionnaires and observational checklist. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 18.0 program that included mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, Sheffe test, and Pearson's correlation. Results: There were significant relationships between knowledge and attitude (r=.33, $p$ <.001), between knowledge and correct MDI use (r=.37, $p$ <.001), and between knowledge and self-management compliance (r=.28, $p$=.003). There was significant relationship between attitude and self-management compliance (r=.33. $p$ <.001). In contrast, attitude was not significantly related to correct MDI use. Conclusion: The study showed that COPD knowledge and attitude of patients were related compliance in managing their disease. Therefore, strategies need to be utilized in education programs which would improve knowledge and subsequently improve attitude and compliance.

  • Social networking services (SNSs) have become important and popular tools for not only presenting self-image but also sharing travel information. This study adopted self-image expressions to understand tourists' intentions to share travel information and behavioral changes in SNSs. To enhance understanding tourists' intention and behavior, the current study suggests a research model based on motivations for self-image expression (i.e., creativity, altruism and social relationship). This current study empirically resulted in the importance of users' creativity, altruism and social relationship in SNS, which leads to the intention and behavioral changes to share travel information. In addition, altruism moderated the negative effect of creativity on self-image expression as well as the positive effect of the social relationship on self-image expression. Based on the result of this study, the current study bears some implications in a theoretical and practical context.

  • Purpose. This study was done to determine the effects of weight management program using self-efficacy in middle-aged obese women. The study also attempted to measure the effects of the program on the weight efficacy lifestyle, body composition, and depression. Method. The research design of this study was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The experimental group consisted of 21 middle-aged obese women and another 21 middle-aged obese women in the control group. The women in the experimental group participated in the weight management program for 12 weeks using self-efficacy. The weight management program using self-efficacy included education on effects of exercise for weight control, aerobic exercise program, muscle training and counseling through the telephone. Results. After 12 weeks of participation in the program, BMI (p <.0001), body fat % (p <.0001), abdominal fat (p <.0001), in the experimental group were significantly decreased compared to the control group. Weight self-efficacy lifestyle (p <.0001) and depression (p =.006) in the experimental group were significantly improved after the program compared to the control group. According to these findings, weight management program self-efficacy for middle-aged obese women could increase weight efficacy lifestyle, and decrease depression, BMI, body fat, and abdominal fat. Conclusion. The result also suggested that the increasing weight efficacy and lifestyle help the obese women to perform and continue exercise. This program could be used in the community such as public health center for weight care and mental health promotion of middle-aged obese women.

  • This study was conducted to find out whether excellent and non-excellent players could be distinguished by the achievement goal orientation(task-orientation, ego-orientation) test and the self-management(physical, interpersonal, training, mental management) test targeting youth soccer players. The subject of this study were 299 players(144 middle school students, 155 high school students) including 131 representative players by age and 168 general players who registered with the Korea Football Association. The questionnaires for data collection include the Task & Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire(TEOSQ) developed by Duda and Nicholls(1989) and the athlete self-management questionnaire(ASMQ) developed by Heo Jeong-hoon(2003) was used. For data analysis, frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and discriminant analysis were performed using SPSS 23 version. As a result of analyzing the data, task orientation and ego orientation, which are sub-factors of achievement goal orientation, were both confirmed as tests that did not discriminate between excellent and non-excellent players. On the other hand, the self-management test was confirmed as a test that can discriminate between excellent and non-excellent players in body management, training management, and mental management excluding interpersonal management among the sub-factors of self-managemnet. In particular, among self-management, mental management was identified as the most important factor in discriminating between excellent and non-excellent athletes.

  • This study attempted to provide basic data to develop a nursing intervention for managing communicable diseases in the elderly by identifying the relationship between COVID-19 stress and self-management efficacy perceived by elderly individuals. Data were collected from 133 participants using a structured questionnaire on general characteristics, COVID-19 stress, and self-management efficacy. Data analysis included a t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. The results revealed that COVID-19 stress differed according to occupation, educational attainment, economic status, and subjective health status, while self-management efficacy differed according to subjective health status. COVID-19 stress correlated positively with self-management efficacy, and there was a positive correlation in the prevention and home-management areas, among the lower areas. Therefore, appropriate COVID-19 stress among elderly individuals can act as a factor to increase the efficacy of prevention and home-management. As the pandemic continues, repeated studies should expand the range of participants and changes by period.

The Knowledge of hypertension (t= -4.40, p<.001), attitude about chronic disease (t=2.65, p<.05), self-care management of the subjects were significantly improved. (t=-3.76, p<.001), and their blood pressure were decreased. 3) Between the knowledge of hypertesnion and the attitude about chronic disease showed significant positive relationship. But the self-care management had not relationship with these two factors. unexpectedly. 4) The knowledge of hypertension, attitude about chronic disease, and self-care management had not evenly influenced the control of hypertension. Methods: This quasi-experimental study recruited a sample of 61 patients with osteoarthritis (experimental group: 30, control group: 31) through the community healthcare centers located in Seoul and Kyung Gi area. The primary outcome measures included symptoms of osteoarthritis, basic physical performance, fatigue, and depression assessed before and after the study. The data were analyzed using SPSSWIN V. 12.0. Results: At the end of the six-week intervention, left shoulder flexibility (t=2.011, p=.049), 6m walking speed (t=3.639, p=.001), and right balance (t=-2.30, p=.025) were significantly improved in the control group. Fatigue (t=3.012, p=.004), stiffness (t=2,093, p=.041), right shoulder flexibility (t=2.138, p=.037), right balance (t=-2.065, p=.043), and 6m walking speed (t=2.683, p=.009) were significantly improved in the experimental group. Conclusion: A twice a week, 6-week tai-chi exercise self-help management program applying laughter therapy is effective in decreasing fatigue and stiffness. Osteoarthritis is one of common chronic diseases that the patients should be required to continue self management for the rest of their life. Therefore, there is a need to develop the more effective self-help management program and nursing intervention to motivate them to maintain their own self-help management.
