Stranger in a Foreign Land. How to Impress and how to be Impressed. A Comprehensive Review on the Differences of Impression Management Behavior between Two Culture: Jamaica and South Korea (경영학적 관점의 국가 간 인상관리 : 자메이카 VS 한국 -)

  • This study examines the differences in the use of self promoting, ingratiating and defensive impression management behavior between Jamaica and South Korea. Previous researches on impression management behavior and culture suggests that differences in culture will determine the type of impression management behavior one uses. This study, therefore aimed to determine which of the two will be more motivated to engage in impression management behavior and does the use of impression management behavior differs based on the differences in culture. Analysis of 102 individuals from Jamaica and South Korea, through the use of questionnaire survey, shows both similarities and differences in the use of impression management behavior. Although there were a few limitations to this research, our findings do highlight some cross-cultural significant differences in the use of impression management behavior between both countries. Results showed that South Korean will be more likely than Jamaican to be motivated to engage in impression management. In addition, South Korean respondents reported higher use of self promoting and ingratiating impression management behavior while Jamaican respondents reported a higher use of defensive impression management behavior.

The Impact of Facebook Access Motivation on Facebook Addiction among High School Students: The Mediator Role of Online Self-Disclosure

  • Online self-disclosure was hypothesized as a mediating variable, explaining the relationship between Facebook access motivation (relationship expansion, curiosity about others' life, maintenance of social connection, social pressure from others, habitual use, impression management, searching for information, and content sharing) and Facebook addiction. Data came from 407 high school students in the Busan, and Gyeongnam provinces. Structural analysis was used to specify the relations among measured construct. Facebook access motivation of curiosity about others' life, Facebook access motivation of maintenance of social connection, Facebook access motivation of social pressure from others, Facebook access motivation of habitual use, and Facebook access motivation of impression management were significant predictors of Facebook addiction. Online self-disclosure mediates between Facebook access motivation of curiosity about others' life, Facebook access motivation of social pressure from others, Facebook access motivation of searching for information & Facebook access motivation of content sharing and Facebook addiction. Viewing online self-disclosure as a mediator has important implications for social media addiction counseling practice.

Fringe Styling Research According to the Hair line

  • Appearance management is evolving as a means of self-expression or as a way of expressing one's individuality. In particular, hairstyle is the most important part of a person's appearance and accounts for 70% of the appearance. Improving people's appearance by changing their hairstyle gives them confidence. Among them, the fringe hair style plays an important role in determining the first impression and reflects the trend. Fringe is shorter and simpler than general hair treatment, but even these small treatments have the effect of changing the impression, so women are trying to transform into a fringe hair style. A previous study was conducted on four lines classified: round, heart, square, and triangular. In this study, we added them to define 5 hairlines and created them by combining each hairline. that have been produced 5 fringe hair styles that suit the shape of the face. It is expected that the results of this study will be used as educational materials for hair line and fringe hair styles in the field, contributing to the beauty industry.

A Qualitative Study on Social Work Applicants' Impression Management Tactics in Job Interviews (사회복지 지원자의 채용면접 인상관리전략에 관한 질적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to know what impression management(IM) tactics social work applicants use in their job interviews and what relation between their IM tactics and interviewers' evaluation exists. To accomplish this purpose, we reviewed the precedent researches about IM and conducted a qualitative study with the applicants in a community welfare center which adopted open approach in recruitment process. We analyzed the applicants' IM tactics through observing video-taped interview sessions and reviewing interviewers' rating paper. The results showed that the social work applicants mainly used self-promotion tactic for emphasizing their strengths and justification tactics for expressing their weaknesses. Some applicants often used fit-with-organization and other-enhancement belonged to ingratiation tactics. According to interviewers' rating results, the applicants with deep eye contact, calm attitude or smiling face gave a good impression to the interviewers. In the final discussion, an applicant who adopted diverse verbal and non-verbal tactics and expressed her point clearly was perceived attractive by the interviewers and accepted as the best choice. Based on this qualitative analysis, we have made several practical suggestions for social work applicants, social work researchers and social work organizations.

Development of Structural Model for Quality, Value, Satisfaction, and Loyalty in a Wine Training Program (와인교육프로그램의 품질, 가치, 만족도 및 충성도에 대한 구조적 모형 구축)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of quality factors on value, satisfaction and loyalty in a wine training program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: Structural verification of the wine training program loyalty model showed that the quality of the wine training program positively affected both value (p<0.001) and satisfaction (p<0.001). Further, the value of the wine training program positively affected satisfaction (p<0.01), which in turn positively influenced loyalty (p<0.001). The quality of the wine training program was presented as solicitude for students, textbook and curriculum, qualification and confidence of lecturer and staff, and training quality, whereas the value of the program was composed of sense of belonging, promotion of self-esteem, good impression on others, and improvement of social status. Therefore, the wine training institute's intensive management of the quality and value of the program could induce students' loyalty by enhancing satisfaction for the wine training program.
