Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of nurses' caring behaviors and to identify the factors influencing of nurses' caring behaviors. Methods: The participants were 404 nurses who were caring the chronically sick elderly in five H university hospitals. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires on the importance of caring behaviors, nursing professional value and job satisfaction. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 16.0. Results: The average score for importance of nurses' caring behaviors was 3.38 and the 'professional knowledge and skill' factor was the highest level. The mean score of nursing professional value was 7.53 and job satisfaction, 3.18. Importance of nurses' caring behaviors had a significant positive correlation with nursing professional value, job satisfaction, nurse's age and work experience among demographic variables. Two significant variables influencing importance of nurses' caring behaviors were nursing professional value and job satisfaction. But characteristics of nurses did not influence. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that importance of nurses' caring behaviors can be improved by intervening factors affecting this importance. Based on the findings of this study, further nursing practice and nursing research for nurses caring the sick elderly should be focused on their nursing professional value and job satisfaction.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the prevalence of peer harassment in preschool children and assess its influence on self-concept, hyperactivity, and behavioral problems. The participants were 4 and 5 year old children recruited from preschools and day care centers. Results indicated that a small group of children were identified as victims by self and teacher-reports. Negative self-concept and hyperactivity predicted self-reported victimization. In addition, hyperactivity, internalizing, and externalizing problems were significant contributors in teacher reported victimization.
This study was conducted to investigate the correlation between diabetes empowerment, health perception, and diabetes self-care behaviors with diabetes for the elderly in the community, and to identify the factors affecting diabetes self-care behavior in the elderly with diabetes. A survey was conducted on 80 diabetic elderly people over the age of 65 who were registered at a local public health center. The mean age was 71.15 years, and 41 males and 39 females were included. Diabetes self-care behavior showed a significant positive correlation with economic status (r=.245, p=.029) and diabetes empowerment (r=.406, p<.001), but health perception (r=.127, p=.263) did not show a significant correlation. As a result of this study, diabetes empowerment and economic status of the diabetic elderly were found to be significant influencing factors on diabetes self-care behavior in the diabetic elderly, and the explanatory power of the model was 19.6% (F=10.623, p<.001). Therefore, if a community program is developed to improve the diabetes empowerment of the elderly with diabetes in the community and economic support policies are also provided at the level of public health, it will be possible to improve the self-care behavior of the elderly with diabetes in the community.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the oral health behaviors of multicultural family adolescents and native family adolescents to use as the basis for the oral health care. Methods: The data included a subset of the Korean Youth Health Behavior Online Survey, self-administered, targeting 72,435 middle school and high school students in 2013. The questionnaire was composed of respondents characteristics, oral eating behavior, drinking, smoking, oral health behavior, oral symptoms. Results: 1. 35.7% of the multicultural adolescents were bad economic level and 26.5% of the multicultural adolescents perceived their oral health status to be poorer than native adolescents. 2. 51.1% of multicultural adolescents was 5 times more likely to intake milk and 15.5% of multicultural adolescents cookie intake was higher than native adolescent. 3. 29.9% of multicultural adolescents always brushed their teeth more in a week than native adolescents. 4. Bleeding gums and oral odor symptoms in multicultural adolescents were 24.6%, 28.0% higher than native adolescents. Conclusions: This finding suggests that the multicultural adolescent need health education including oral health food habit, oral health care, early dental visit for prevention, early treatment.
This study examined the antenatal care known as Taekyo. The sample consisted of 795 women and 564 men who had be seen in the antenatal care unit, delivery room, or postpartal care unit of general hospitals in Korea between March 20 and April 22, 1995. Data were collected using the "Taekyo questionnaire for childbearing women" and "Taekyo questionnaire for husbands of childbearing women" developed by researchers. Data were self-reported. Data were analyzed using the SPSS PC+ program, and descriptive statistics, T-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient were applied. The results of this study were as follows : 1. Encouragement to practice Taekyo was at a relatively high level. Items on Taekyo encouraging behaviors had a mean score of 3.51(33 items 5 point scale). According to the five categories of Taekyo encouraging behaviors, subjects indicated they practice "food intake(mean score 4.02)". "praying(mean score 3.78)", "cumulative virtuous deeds (mean score 3.58)". "mind and body management(mean score 3.47)", "maternal fetal interaction(mean score 3.15)". 2. The childbearing women's practices related to forbidden behaviors by Taekyo were relatively high. Item on forbidden behaviors by Taekyo had a mean score 3.71(43 items 5 point scale). According to the five categories of forbidden behaviors by Taekyo, subjects indicated they practiced "voluntary abstention of drugs(mean score 4.78)," avoiding behaviors(mean score 4.78)," avoiding behaviors(mean score 3.77), "good behaviors(mean score 3.71)", "taboo on fetal death tendency (mean score 3.53)", "taboo on certain intake(mean score 3.47)". 3. The practice score of husbands for childbearing women which related to Taekyo behaviors were relatively high. Item on Taekyo behaviors had a mean score 3.59(33 items 5 point scale). According to the six categories of Taekyo behavior, subjects indicated they practiced "mind and body management(mean score 3.94)", "praying(mean score 3.80)", "support of women’s practice related to Taekyo(mean score 3.66)", "good behaviors(mean score 3.58)", "continency(mean score 3.33)", "paternal fetal interaction (mean score 3.19)". 4. On the childbearing women's perception of Taekyo, most of the subjects(88%) had confidence in the positive effects of Taekyo on Child development. The result showed that the childbearing couples practiced Taekyo behavior relatively often and sincerely and most of the childbearing women had a positive perception of Taekyo's effect on prenatal child development.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to understand the coping experience that family caregivers undergo during the process of care, to grasp coping behaviors used to solve problems and, finally, to develop a substantive theory by analyzing the coping process. Method: The methodology of collecting and analyzing data used in this study followed the ground theory. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with open-ended and descriptive questions about the subjects' coping experiences. The survey was conducted between May 2006 and August. The subjects of this study were 10 women. Result: The result of the study is as follows. Core category of This Study was "Self-Sacrifice". And The coping process of family caregivers while taking care of the industrial disaster victim was found to have five stages: shocked stage; undertaking stage of new role; skilled stage; exhausted stage; and desiderating stage. Seven coping behaviors were found to reduce the stress of role and anguish resulting from care. Conclusion: The result of this study is helpful for developing effective industrial nursing strategies suitable for each coping stage. It is necessary to practice nursing mediation and to analyze the change about nursing effect and family caregivers' adaptation.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate oral health-related knowledge in adults and to determine the effect of oral health knowledge on correct brushing and use of dental care products. Methods: The subjects of this study were 552 adults who visited dental clinic, and a self-administered questionnaire was administered. Statistical analysis was performed using the t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression using the SPSS statistics program (ver. 23.0, IBM Co., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: The oral health knowledge level, correct brushing, and dental care product usage scores were found to be positively correlated (r=0.015, 0.016), and both correlation coefficients were statistically significant (p<0.05). Oral health knowledge was found to have a significant effect on correct brushing among oral health promotion behaviors (β=0.116, p=0.006), but it was not found to have a significant effect on the use of dental care products (β=0.053, p=0.214). Conclusions: Oral health promotion behavior is closely related to oral health knowledge, and it is thought that oral health promotion behavior can be improved by raising oral health knowledge levels.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships of social support, marital conflict, self-efficacy, and mothers' parenting stress, which are known as affecting mothers' parenting behaviors of infants a lot. To this study, We used of Korea Institute of Child Care and Education's "Panel Survey of Korea Child; 2009" data. The subjects of mothers of 11~18 months infants 1,467(M=739, F=728). In order to analyze collected data, Person correlation analysis, regression/path analysis were used. The results of the study were as follows: First, the correlations among social support, marital conflict, self-efficacy, and mothers' parenting stress were between -.475 and .401, which are all significant on the level of within p<.01. Of those the correlation between the variable of self-efficacy, and mothers' parenting stress was shown highest as of -.475. Second, the correlations among these variables and mothers' parenting behaviors of infants were between -.484 and .350(all, p<.01). Mothers' parenting stress shows the highest correlations of all, next social support, self-efficacy, marital conflict in order. Third, multiple-correlation of .533, which explains at 28.4 percentage of total variance of the mothers' parenting behaviors. And -.396 in the degree of mothers' parenting stress, which explains at 15.7 percentage of the total variance of the mothers' parenting behaviors, while .223 in social support(4.97%). But marital conflict has not direct effects but indirect effects.

This study was conducted to investigate the thermoregulatory behavior of young males in terms of self-identified thermal tolerance. We recruited 436 male students from Seoul ($24.0{\pm}4.6yr$ in age, $175.3{\pm}5.5cm$ in height, $70.1{\pm}10.6kg$ in body mass, and $23.0{\pm}2.7$ in BMI) in accordance with four types of self-identified thermal tolerance: 1) tolerable of both cold and heat, BCH (N=15); 2) heat tolerable only, HTO (N=118); 3) cold tolerable only, CTO (N=162); and 4) neither cold nor heat tolerable, NCH (N=141). The questionnaire consisted of 55 questions regarding preference to cold or heat environment, seasonal thermoregulatory behaviors including clothing habits, seasonal sleeping environments, health care/physical fitness, and anthropometric items. The results showed that: 1) BCH preferred less auxiliary heating devices, gloves/hats, or thermal underwear in winter and had very few experiences with cold/heat injuries or catching a cold, whereas NCH showed the opposite behavior and experiences as BCH; 2) thermoregulatory behaviors were not symmetrical between summer and winter. Most male students preferred cold beverage/foods to using cooling devices to lower body temperature in summer, whereas auxiliary heating devices were preferred to warm beverage/foods to maintain body temperature in winter; 3) thermoregulatory behaviors of NCH had more items in common with HTO than CTO, while the behaviors of BCH were more closely related to CTO than the behaviors of BCH were more closely related to CTO than HTO. Overall, we confirmed that thermoregulatory behaviors were apparently classified by self-identified thermal tolerance, and such behaviors could be adjusted by improving cold or heat tolerance.

This paper reports the results of descriptive research aimed at determining the effects of the administrative hospital staff members' organization-based self-esteem and work engagement on their organizational citizenship behaviors. The participants of the study were 200 administrative staff members of general hospitals, each with 200 beds or more, located in B city. Data were collected from March 15 to 30, 2017, and analyzed statistically using a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. The organizational citizenship behaviors differed significantly according to whether they had an experience of turnover (t=-4.260, p=.000) and how long they had served at their present work (t=3.297, p=.039). In addition, the organizational citizenship behaviors had strong positive correlations with the organization-based self-esteem (r=.454, p=<.000) and work engagement (r=.595, p<.000). In addition, the factor that explained the organizational citizenship behaviors most significantly was work engagement, followed by organization-based self-esteem and the period of service at the present work. All three factors accounted for 41% of those behaviors. These findings suggest that the hospital should perform internal marketing or improve its welfare system to make administrative staff members raise their self-esteem based on their organization. Moreover, the hospital should form an organizational culture of its own, in which administrative staff members feel the importance of their job, enjoy it and are given autonomy in job performance, ultimately contributing to the development of hospital management.
