Interrelationship between Dopaminergic Receptors and Catecholamine Secretion from the Rat Adrenal Gland (흰쥐 부신에서 카테콜아민 분비작용과 도파민 수용체간의 상관성)

  • It has been known for some time that dopamine-containing cells are existed in sympathetic ganglia, i.e., small, intensely fluorescent cells. However, its role and mechanism of action as a peripheral neurotransmitter are poorly understood so far. In the present study, an attempt was made to examine the effect of apomorphine, which is known to be a selective agonist of dopaminergic $D_2$. receptor on secretion of catecholamines (CA) from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland. The perfusion of a low concentration of 10uM apomorphine into an adrenal vein for 20 min produced significant reduction in CA secretion induced by 5.32 mM ACh, 56 mM KCl, 100 uM DMPP and 100 uM McN-A-343. Increasing apomorphine concentration to 30 uM led to more markedly decreased CA secretion as compared to the case of 10 uM apomorphine and also did inhibit clearly CA release by $10^{-5}M$ Bay-K-8644. Furthermore, in adrenal glands preloaded with a higher dose of 100 uM apomorphine, CA releases evoked by ACh, excess $K^+$, DMPP and McN-A-343 were almost abolished by the drug. The perfusion of $3.3{\pm}10^{-5}M$ metoclopramide, which is well-known as a selective dopaminergic $D_2$ antagonist, produced significantly inhibitory effect of CA release by ACh, DMPP and McN-A-343 but did not affect that by excess $K^+$. However, preloading of 30uM apomorphine in the presence of metoclopramide did not modify the CA secretory effect of excess $K+$ and DMPP. These experimental results demonstrate that apomorphine causes dose-dependent inhibition of CA secretion by cholinergic receptor stimulation and also by membrane depolarization from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland, suggesting that these effects appear to be exerted by inhibiting influx of extracellular calcium into the rat adrenal medullary chromaffin cells through activation of inhibitory dopaminergic receptors.

Kinetics and Mechanism of the Oxidation of Alcohols by C9H7NHCrO3Cl (C9H7NHCrO3Cl에 의한 알코올류의 산화반응에서 속도론과 메카니즘)

  • $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ was synthesized by reacting $C_9H_7NH$ with chromium (VI) trioxide. The structure of the product was characterized by FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared) spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The oxidation of benzyl alcohol by $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ in various solvents showed that the reactivity increased with increasing dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}$) in the following order: DMF (N,N'-dimethylformamide) > acetone > chloroform > cyclohexane. The oxidation of alcohols was examined by $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ in DMF. As a result, $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ was found to be an efficient oxidizing agent that converts benzyl alcohol, allyl alcohol, primary alcohols, and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes or ketones (75%-95%). The selective oxidation of alcohols was also examined by $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ in DMF. $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ was the selective oxidizing agent of benzyl, allyl and primary alcohol in the presence of secondary ones. In the presence of DMF with an acidic catalyst, such as $H_2SO_4$, $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ oxidized benzyl alcohol (H) and its derivatives ($p-OCH_3$, $m-CH_3$, $m-OCH_3$, m-Cl, and $m-NO_2$). Electron donating substituents accelerated the reaction rate, whereas electron acceptor groups retarded the reaction rate. The Hammett reaction constant (${\rho}$) was -0.69 (308K). The observed experimental data were used to rationalize hydride ion transfer in the rate-determining step.

Effects of Intracerebroventricular TFMPP on Rabbit Renal Function (뇌실내 TFMPP가 가토신장기능에 미치는 효과)

  • The central tryptaminergic system has been shown to play an important role in the regulation of renal function: $5-HT_1$ receptor mediate diuresis and natriuresis, whereas both $5-HT_2$ and $5-HT_3$ mediate antidiuresis and antinatriuresis. Recently, $5-HT_1$ receptors are further subdivided into many subtypes, and central $5-HT_{1A}$ subtype was shown to mediate diuretic and natriuretic effects. The present study was undertaken to delineate the role of $5-HT_{1B}$ subtype. Trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine (TFMPP), a selective $5-HT_{1B}$ agonist in doses ranging from 8 to $750\;{\mu}g/kg$ icv elicited diuresis, natriuresis and kaliuresis in dose-dependent fashion, with the fractional excretion of filtered Na reaching 5.44% with $250\;{\mu}g/kg$ icv. The natriuresis outlasted the transient increases in renal hemodynamics, suggesting humoral mediation in the decreased tubular Na reabsorption. Plasma concentration of atrial natriuretic peptide increased along with the natriuresis. Systemic blood pressure transiently increased. When given intravenously, no diuresis and natriuresis was elicited, indicating the central mechanism. The icv TFMPP effects were not significantly affected by icv methysergide, a nonselective $5-HT_1$ blocker. Both ketanserin and MDL 72222, selective $5-HT_2$ and $5-HT_3$ antagonists, resp., did not abolish the TFMPP effects. Nor did NAN-190, $5-HT_{1A}$ blocker, affect the TFMPP effects. These observations suggest that central $5-HT_{1B}$ receptors may play a role in the central regulation of renal function by exerting diuretic and natriuretic influences, mainly through natriuretic factors.

  • Recently, Very large and high resolution geological data from aerial or satellite imagery are available. Many researches and applications require to do realtime visualization of interest geological area or entire planet. Important operation of wide-spreaded terrain realtime visualization technique is the appropriate model resolution selection from pre-processed multi-resolution model hierarchy depend upon participant's view. For embodying such realtime rendering system with large geometric data, Preprocessing multi-resolution hierarchy from large scale geological information of interest area is required. In this research, recent Cubic multiresolution 4-8 tile hierarchy is selected for global planetary applications. Based upon the tile hierarchy, It constructs the selective terminal level tile mesh for original geological information area and starts to sample individual generated tiles for terminal level tiles. It completes the hierarchy by constructing intermediate tiles with low pass filtering in bottom-up direction. This research embodies series of efficient cubic 4-8 tile hierarchy construction mechanism with out-of-core storage. The planetary scale Mars' geographical altitude data and image data were selected for the experiment.

A Study on Direct Decomposition and Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO over Ru-HZSM-5 Catalyst in the Presence of Excess Oxygen (과잉 산소 존재 하에서 Ru-HZSM-5촉매를 사용한 NO 분해 반응 및 선택적 촉매 환원 반응에 관한 연구)

  • Reduction activity of precious metal-loaded HZSM-5 for NO has been studied and was compared to that of Cu-HZSM-5 in the presence of excess oxygen. It was found that among the catalysts used in this study, Ru-HZSM-5 was the most active catalyst for the reduction of NO to $N_2$ in the absence of hydrocarbon reductant. The highest conversion obtained was 45%. No severe inhibition of water vapor to the reduction was observed. It is suggested that the higher catalytic activity of Ru-HZSM-5 may result from the better ability to oxidize NO to $NO_2$ in the presence of excess oxygen. A proposed reaction mechanism for the reduction of NO to $N_2$ in the presence of excess oxygen is that NO is oxidized to $NO_2$ on the surface of Ru-HZSM-5 catalyst and the adsorbed $NO_2$ on the surface is then decomposed to $N_2$. $NO_2$ is supposed to the reaction.

  • When the spermine, which is one of the polyamines containing cation in vivo, binds to DNA, it can increase the stability of DNA. At the same time, it can cause B-form to Z-form transformations of DNA. However, because we cannot determine the binding geometry of the spermine to DNA by using spectroscopic methods, nobody can show the accurate binding mechanism of a DNA-spermine complex. Thus, we used DAPI as a spectroscopic probe of spermine, which binding geometry was well known. At the result of base selective binding geometry of spermine to synthetic DNA, the concentration of spermine gets higher, it grows the hydrophobic environment of DAPI which bound the minor groove of adenine-thymine base pair. Simultaneously, spermine seems to bridge the backbones around the minor groove of $poly[d(A-T)_2]$. So that, the intensity of fluorescence spectrum of that shows sudden increasement. In guanine-cytocine base pair, $poly[d(G-C)_2]$, we can suppose that spermine bind to the major groove of that, shoving out the DAPI which is partially intercalated between the base pocket across the major groove of it. In both cases, spermine doesn't show the base selectivity against to DNA.

Studies on Secretion of Catecholamines Evoked by Metoclopramide of the Rat Adrenal Gland (흰쥐 적출 부신에서 Metoclopramide의 Catecholamine 분비작용에 관한 연구)

  • The effect of metoclopramide (MCP), which is well-known as a selective dopaminergic antagonist used in treating esophageal refulx, gastroparesis and emesis induced by anticancer chemotherapy, on secretion of catecholamines (CA) in the perfused isolated rat adrenal gland was investigated. MCP given into an adrenal vein produced the dose-related increase in CA secretion from the adrenal gland. The secretory effect of CA evoked by MCP was inhibited markedly by atropine-pretreatment. but only partially blocked when chlorisondamine was added. The secretion of CA induced by MCP was potentiated by pretreatment with physostigmine, adenosine or ouabain. However, MCP-induced CA secretion was suppressed significantly by perfusion of calcium-free Krebs solution containing 5 mM-EGTA for 30 min. Perfusion of MCP (200 ug/30 min.) attenuated the secretory effect of CA evoked by potassium chloride or acetylcholine. These experimental results demonstrate that metoclopramide releases CA significantly by a calcium-dependent exocy totic mechanism. It is thought that the secretory effect of metoclopramide is due to activation of cholinergic muscarinic receptors present in the adrenal gland rather than nicotinic receptors and partly to the direct action on the chromaffin cell itself.

Spalling of Intermetallic Compound during the Reaction between Electroless Ni(P) and Lead-free Solders (무전해 Ni(P)과 무연솔더와의 반응 중 금속간화합물의 spalling 현상에 관한 연구)

  • Electroless Ni(P) has been widely used for under bump metallization (UBM) of flip chip and surface finish layer in microelectronic packaging because of its excellent solderability, corrosion resistance, uniformity, selective deposition without photo-lithography, and also good diffusion barrier. However, the brittle fracture at solder joints and the spatting of intermetallic compound (IMC) associated with electroless Ni(P) are critical issues for its successful applications. In the present study, the mechanism of IMC spatting and microstructure change of the Ni(P) film were investigated with varying P content in the Ni(P) film (4.6,9, and $13 wt.\%$P). A reaction between Sn penetrated through the channels among $Ni_3Sn_4$ IMCs and the P-rich layer ($Ni_3P$) of the Ni(P) film formed a $Ni_3SnP$ layer. Thickening of the $Ni_3SnP$ layer led to $Ni_3Sn_4$ spatting. After $Ni_3Sn_4$ spatting, the Ni(P) film directly contacted the molten solder and the $Ni_3P$ phase further transformed into a $Ni_2P$ phase. During the crystallization process, some cracks formed in the Ni(P) film to release tensile stress accumulated from volume shrinkage of the film.

Democracy, The Media and Discourse Politics -Case Study about Media's Intervention in Representing Labor Strikes (민주주의, 언론 그리고 담론정치 -파업에 대한 미디어 프레임 변화를 중심으로)

  • Public opinion has dramatically shifted from positive to negative in Korea society especially since the IMF crisis. Such terms as 'aristocratic union', 'collectivism', 'damages on public interest' became a kind of conventional wisdom. Undoubtedly, media's representation has much to do with such a tantamount difference. This study thus attempts to understand the mechanism by analyzing media discourse related to labor strikes. For this purpose, this paper made a choice three cases including doctor-pharmacist dispute, general strike by truckers' solidarity, and Ssangyong Motor's strike. Total 217 editorial pieces of , and conceived to be a representative newspaper of ideological stance were analyzed. Research showed that while paying particular attention to demoralizing labor strikes, shed positive light on such disputes by articulating fundamental causes hampered by pro-capital policies along with anti-labor law enforcement. The believed to be relatively a neutral one showed ambivalent attitudes toward those cases. More favorable and inclusive reporting were found in accordance with policy shifts as well. Media's selective partisanship for the sake of private interests is firmly believed to downgrading credibility on Korean journalism. Also is fair, balanced and less biased reporting over socal disputes a vital part in crystallizing social consensus. In this consideration, the authors hoped this study to provide an opportunity to contemplate on what would be desirable journalistic values in modern democracy.

Status and Trends of Emission Reduction Technologies and CDM Projects of Greenhouse Gas Nitrous Oxide (온실가스 아산화질소(N2O) 저감기술 및 CDM 사업의 현황과 전망)

  • With the effectuation of Kyoto Protocol on the United Nations Framework Convention on the Climate Change, the emission reduction of greenhouse gases became an urgent issue and has been competitively secured among countries as the form of certificates through clean development mechanism (CDM) or joint implementation (JI). Nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) is one of the major greenhouse gases along with carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and methane ($CH_4$) having warming potential 310 times that of carbon dioxide and chemically very stable in the atmosphere to give a life time of more than 120 years so that it reaches to the stratosphere to act as an ozone depleting substance. $N_2O$ hardly decomposes and thus, besides to the adoption of thermal decomposition at high temperature, selective catalytic reduction methods are usually used at temperatures over $400^{\circ}C$ in which the presence of NOx acts as a major impeding material in the decomposition process. In this article, the sources of various $N_2O$ generation, catalytic reduction processes and the status and trends of emission trade with CDM projects for greenhouse gas reduction are summarized and discussed on a condensed basis.
