A numerical simulation of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for NO with $NH_3$ is conducted over the $V_2O_5/TiO_2$ and $WO_3-V_2O_5/TiO_2$ catalysts. The governing $NH_3$ and NO transport equations are considered by using the time-dependent FCT (Flux-Corrected Transport) algorithm. After a validating simulation for $NH_3$ step feed and shut-off experiments is analyzed, transient behavior of $NH_3$ and NO concentration in a SCR catalyst is investigated by changing such parameters as inflow $NH_3$ concentration, temperature of the catalyst, and $NH_3$/NOx ratios.

The refuse incineration plant has an important role in saving the combustion energy for local heating system. But harmful combustion gas(NOx etc.) leads to some serious environmental problem. To reduce the gas, a SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction)system is installed and it is controlled by adjusting the flow of ammonia gas(NH3) . In this paper, we apply a repetitive control method to reduce NOx by adjusting the flow of ammonia gas for SCR system in a refuse incineration plant which is located in Haeundae, Pusan, Firstly, we analyze the inlet NOx period by FFt method, and verify its periodic variations. Secondly, we design a repetitive control system by using state space model method. Lastly, the effectiveness of repetitive control system is shown by comparing to a conventional PID control in simulation and experimental results.

This work investigated the size and shape effect of ${\gamma}$-alumina-supported metal oxides on the hydrocarbon selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides. Several metal oxides including Ag, Cu and Ru were used as the catalysts, and n-heptane as the reducing agent. For the Ag/${\gamma}$-alumina catalyst, the $NO_x$ reduction efficiency in the range of $250{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ increased as the size of Ag decreased (20 nm>50 nm>80 nm). The shape effect of metal oxides on the $NO_x$ reduction was examined with spherical- and wire-shape nanoparticles. Under identical condition, higher catalytic activity for $NO_x$ reduction was observed with Ag and Cu wires than with the spheres, while spherical- and wire-shape Ru exhibited similar $NO_x$ reduction efficiency to each other. Among the metal oxides examined, the best catalytic activity for $NO_x$ reduction was obtained with Ag wire, showing almost complete $NO_x$ removal at a temperature of $300^{\circ}C$. For Cu and Ru catalysts, considerable amount of NO was oxidized to $NO_2$, rather than reduced to $N_2$, leading to lower $NO_x$ reduction efficiency.
The selective non-catalytic reduction(SNCR) performance is sensitive to the process parameters such as flow velocity, reaction temperature and mixing of reagent(ammonia or urea) with the flue gases. Therefore, the knowledge of the velocity field, temperature field and species concentration distribution is crucial for the design and operation of an effective SNCR injection system. In this work, a full-scale two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics(CFD)-based reacting model involving a droplet model is built and validated with the data obtained from a pilot-scale urea-based SNCR reactor installed with a 150 kW LPG burner. The kinetic mechanism with seven reactions for nitrogen oxides($NO_x$) reduction by urea-water solution is used to predict $NO_x$ reduction and ammonia slip. Using the turbulent reacting flow CFD model involving the discrete droplet phase, the CFD simulation results show maximum 20% difference from the experimental data for NO reduction. For $NH_3$ slip, the simulation results have a similar tendency with the experimental data with regard to the temperature and the normalized stoichiometric ratio(NSR).
The catalytic behavior of the manganese oxides was studied for the selective catalytic reduction with ammonia at a low temperature condition under $200^{\circ}C$. Outlet unreacted ammonia increases with decreasing temperature and increasing $NH_3/NOx$ mole ratio, however $NO_2$ shows an opposite result. $NO_2$ is generated by the adsorption of NO on the catalyst and the following oxidization to nitrates. Unreacted NH3 slip is not observed even at the $NH_3/NOx$ feed ratio above 1.0 due to the reaction between formed nitrates on the catalyst and adsorbed ammonia. The addition of Zr increases $NO_2$ generation, whereas the addition of CeO2 on the catalyst decreases $NO_2$ generation. Furthermore, the additon of the metal oxide induce DeNOx efficiency to reduce.
Nitrous oxide ($N_2O$), known as one of the major greenhouse gases, is an important component of the earth's atmosphere, and gives rise to precursor of acid rain and photochemical smog. For the removal of $N_2O$ and other nitrogen oxides, the SCR reaction system with various reductants is widely used. This study is based on the results of experimental and theoretical examinations on the catalytic decomposition of sole nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) and selective catalytic reduction of $N_2O$ with $CH_4$ in the presence of oxygen using mixed metal oxide catalysts obtained from hydrolatcite-type precursors. When $CH_4$ is fed together with a reductant, it affects positively on the $N_2O$ decomposition activity. At an optimum ratio of $CH_4$ to $O_2$ mole ratio, the $N_2O$ conversion activity is enhanced on the SCR reaction with partial oxidation of methane.
Characteristics of hydrocarbon selective catalytic reduction of NOx using various noble metal catalysts were investigated. The best active metal is Pt, supports are $CeO_2$ and $TiO_2$ by strong interactions between active metals, and 55% of conversion rate of NOx is shown. Pd, Rh and Ag catalysts presented a conversion of less than 20% as active metals, and supports also showed the poor activity compared to $SiO_2$ and $ZrO_2$. Experiments were performed with different types of reducing agents, amount, concentration of oxygen and space velocity in order to investigate the performance of catalysts according to operating conditions. The results confirm that the methane is better than propane as a reducing agent, and as the ratio of methane/nitrogen oxide increases, the catalytic activity increased, as the concentration of oxygen increases and space velocity decreases, the performance of catalysts increased.
A computational fluid dynamics(CFD) model is developed and validated with on-site experiments for a urea-based SNCR(selective non-catalytic reduction) process to reduce the nitrogen oxides($NO_x$) in a municipal incinerator. The three-dimensional turbulent reacting flow CFD model having a seven global reaction mechanism under the condition of low CO concentration and 12% excess air and droplet evaporation is used for fluid dynamics simulation of the SNCR process installed in the incinerator. In this SNCR process, urea solution and atomizing air were injected into the secondary combustor, using one front nozzle and two side nozzles. The exit temperature($980^{\circ}C$) of simulation has the same value as in situ experiment one. The $NO_x$ reduction efficiencies of 57% and 59% are obtained from the experiment and CFD simulation, respectively at NSR=1.8(normalized stoichiometric ratio) for the equal flow rate ratio from the three nozzles. It is observed in the CFD simulations with varying the flowrate ratio of the three nozzles that the injection of a two times larger front nozzle flowrate than the side nozzle flowrate produces 8% higher $NO_x$ reduction efficiency than the injection of the equal ratio flowrate in each nozzle.
In the present study, potassium and caesium doped Ag/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts were synthesized by simple wet impregnation method and evaluated for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx using methane. TEM analysis and diffraction patterns demonstrated the finely dispersed Ag particles. BET surface measurements reveal that the prepared materials have moderate to high surface area and the metal amount found from ICP analysis was well matching with the theoretical loadings. The synthesized K-Ag/$Al_2O_3$ and Cs-Ag/$Al_2O_3$ catalysts exhibited a promotional effect on deNOx activity in the presence of $SO_2$ and $H_2O$. The long-term isothermal studies at $550^{\circ}C$ under oxygen rich condition showed the superior catalytic properties of the both alkali promoted samples. The crucial catalytic properties of materials are attributed to NO adsorption properties detected by the NO TPD.
A plasma-catalytic combined process was used as an attempt to improve the conversion efficiency of nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) over a wide temperature range ($150{\sim}500^{\circ}C$) to cope with the exhaust gas whose temperature varies greatly. Since the catalytic $NO_x$ reduction is effective at high temperatures where the activity of the catalyst itself is high, the $NO_x$ reduction was carried out without plasma generation in the high temperature region. On the other hand, in the low temperature region, the plasma was created in the catalyst bed to make up for the decreased catalytic activity, thereby increasing the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency. Effects of the types of catalysts, the reaction temperature, the concentration of the reducing agent (n-heptane), and the energy density on $NO_x$ conversion efficiency were examined. As a result of comparative analysis of various catalysts, the catalytic $NO_x$ conversion efficiency in the high temperature region was the highest in the case of the $Ag-Zn/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst of more than 90%. In the low temperature region, $NO_x$ was hardly removed by the hydrocarbon selective reduction process, but when the plasma was generated in the catalyst bed, the $NO_x$ conversion sharply increased to about 90%. The $NO_x$ conversion can be maintained high at temperatures of $150{\sim}500^{\circ}C$ by the combination of plasma in accordance with the temperature change of the exhaust gas.
