  • This paper covers feature extraction for automatic handwritten signature verification. Several major feature selection techniques are investigated from a practical perspective to realise an optimal signature verification system, and customised feature set selection based on set-on-set distance measurement is presented. The experimental results have proved the proposed methods to be efficient, offering considerably improved verification performance compared to conventional methods. Also, they dramatically reduce the processing complexity in the verification system.

  • For on-line signature verification, the local shape of a signature is an important information. The current approaches, in which signatures are represented into a function of time or a feature vector without regarding of local shape, have not used the various features of local shapes, for example, local variation of a signer, local complexity of signature or local difficulty of forger, and etc. In this paper, we propose a new technique for on-line signature verification based on a structural signature representation so as to analyze local shape and to make a selection of important local parts in matching process. That is. based on a structural representation of signature, a technique of important of local weighting and personalized decision threshold is newly introduced and its experimental results under different conditions are compared.

  • When using the Support Vector Machine in the online signature verification, SVM kernel function should be chosen to use non-linear SVM and the constant parameters in the kernel functions should be adjusted to appropriate values to reduce the error rate of signature verification. Non-linear SVM which is built on a strong mathematical basis shows better performance of classification with the higher discrimination power. However, choosing the kernel function and adjusting constant parameter values depend on the heuristics of the problem domain. In the signature verification, this paper deals with the problems of selecting the correct kernel function and constant parameters' values, and shows the kernel function and coefficient parameter's values with the minimum error rate. As a result of this research, we expect the average error rate to be less than 1%.

  • Objective: The Jeju native pig (JNP) found on the Jeju Island of Korea is a unique black pig known for high-quality meat. To investigate the genetic uniqueness of JNP, we analyzed the selection signature of the JNP in comparison to commercial pigs such as Berkshire and Yorkshire pigs. Methods: We surveyed the genetic diversity to identify the genetic stability of the JNP, using the linkage disequilibrium method. A selective sweep of the JNP was performed to identify the selection signatures. To do so, the population differentiation measure, Weir-Cockerham's Fst was utilized. This statistic directly measures the population differentiation at the variant level. Additionally, we investigated the gene ontologies (GOs) and genetic features. Results: Compared to the Berkshire and Yorkshire pigs, the JNP had lower genetic diversity in terms of linkage disequilibrium decays. We summarized the selection signatures of the JNP as GO. In the JNP and Berkshire pigs, the most enriched GO terms were epithelium development and neuron-related. Considering the JNP and Yorkshire pigs, cellular response to oxygen-containing compound and generation of neurons were the most enriched GO. Conclusion: The selection signatures of the JNP were identified through the population differentiation statistic. The genes with possible selection signatures are expected to play a role in JNP's unique pork quality.

  • The dorsal hand vein biometric system developed has a main objective and specific targets; to get an electronic signature using a secure signature device. In this paper, we present our signature device with its different aims; respectively: The extraction of the dorsal veins from the images that were acquired through an infrared device. For each identification, we need the representation of the veins in the form of shape descriptors, which are invariant to translation, rotation and scaling; this extracted descriptor vector is the input of the matching step. The optimization decision system settings match the choice of threshold that allows accepting/rejecting a person, and selection of the most relevant descriptors, to minimize both FAR and FRR errors. The final decision for identification based descriptors selected by the PSO hybrid binary give a FAR =0% and FRR=0% as results.

  • The main idea is to protect the signer of a document against the document being digitally distributed without the cooperation of signer. This paper proposes a new scheme of undeniable signature, which is so effective and improved D. Chaum's scheme. And our scheme which is zero-knowledge proved by using one-way function and partition - selection method, shows that its communication(challenge-response) only needs much fewer times during the confirmation protocol and disavowal protocol respectively, being very useful for wireless network environment. In the meantime our scheme allows the verifier to verify that the signature is valid, while the signer doesn't know the original message and the signature, to preserve the privacy of the verifier.

  • The traffic classification is a preliminary and essential step for stable network service provision and efficient network resource management. While a number of classification methods have been introduced in literature, the payload signature-based classification method shows the highest performance in terms of accuracy, completeness, and practicality. However, the payload signature-based method has a significant drawback in high-speed network environment that the processing speed is much slower than other classification method such as header-based and statistical methods. In this paper, We describes various design options to improve the processing speed of traffic classification in design of a payload signature based classification system and describes our selections on the development of our traffic classification system. Also the feasibility of our selection was proved through experimental evaluation on our campus traffic trace.

  • Through molecular phylogenetic analysis using the nef gene sequences of HIV-l isolated from Korean registered in the NCBI GenBank together with 41 reference strains and 94 foreign isolates, we verified that most (${\sim}80%$) of Korean isolates belonged to subtype B and 78% of subtype B were clustered together exclusively of foreign isolates, and this cluster was named Korean clade subtype B ($K_cB$). Similarity study suggested that the $K_cB$ cluster was more homogeneous than and clearly distinctive from the non-Korean subtype B ($NK_cB$). Comparison of the consensus amino acid sequences of the $K_cB\;or\;NK_cB$ revealed characteristic $K_cB$ signature amino acid pattern comprised of 13 amino acid residues. The $K_cB$ signature amino acid residues were critical in separating the $K_cB$ ftom the $NK_cB$, since substitution of the $NK_cB$ sequences with $K_cB$ signature amino acids relocated them to the Koran clade, and vice versa. Synonymous and nonsynonymous substitution rate study suggested positive selection event for the $K_cB$.

  • Multiple attribute for decision making including user preference will increase the complexity of route selection process. Various approaches have been proposed to solve the optimal route selection problem. In this paper, multi attribute decision making (MADM) algorithms such as Simple Additive Weighting (SAW), Weighted Product Method (WPM), Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method and Total Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) methods have been proposed for acoustic signature based optimal route selection to facilitate user with better quality of service. The traffic density state conditions (very low, low, below medium, medium, above medium, high and very high) on the road segment is the occurrence and mixture weightings of traffic noise signals (Tyre, Engine, Air Turbulence, Exhaust, and Honks etc) is considered as one of the attribute in decision making process. The short-term spectral envelope features of the cumulative acoustic signals are extracted using Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Classifier (ANFC) is used to model seven traffic density states. Simple point method and AHP has been used for calculation of weights of decision parameters. Numerical results show that WPM, AHP and TOPSIS provide similar performance.

  • The growth of multimedia technology forces the development of video detection for large database management and illegal copy detection. To meet this demand, this paper proposes a fast video detection method to apply to a large database. The fast video detection algorithm uses spatial features using the gray value distribution from frames and temporal features using the temporal similarity map. We form the video signature using the extracted spatial feature and temporal feature, and carry out a stepwise matching method. The performance was evaluated by accuracy, extraction and matching time, and signature size using the original videos and their modified versions such as brightness change, lossy compression, text/logo overlay. We show empirical parameter selection and the experimental results for the simple matching method using only spatial feature and compare the results with existing algorithms. According to the experimental results, the proposed method has good performance in accuracy, processing time, and signature size. Therefore, the proposed fast detection algorithm is suitable for video detection with the large database.
