  • Introduction: Ulna is nearly equal to radius in function and bony architecture and strength in forearm. But in lower extremity, fibula is 1/5 of tibia in anatomic and functional point so we can find fibula transposition is commonly used in defect of tibia. We cannot find other article about segmental forearm bone transposition in man. The purpose of this study was to report our clinical and functional result of undergoing segmented transposition of ipsilateral ulna with its own vascular supply in defect of radius in 6 cases. Material and method: From June 1994 to October 2007, 7 segmented bone transpositional grafts in forearm were performed in Kyung Hee Medical Center. The distribution of age was from 20 years old to 73 years old. There was male in 6 cases and female in 1 case. The causes of operation were giant cell tumor in 1 case and traumatic origin in 6 cases; it was nonunion in 2 cases and fracture with severe comminution in 4 cases. Ipsilaterally segmented ulna keeping its own vascular supply was transported to defect of radius in severe traumatic patients and one patient whose tumor in radius had been excised. Transported ulna was fixed to proximal and distal radius remnants by plate and screw. In one case with giant cell tumor, transported ulna was connected to radius across wrist joint as wrist joint fusion. Joint preserving procedures were performed in 6 cases with crushing injury of radius. Results: We could obtain solid bony union in all cases and good functional results. The disadvantage was relative shortening of forearm, but we could overcome this problem. Conclusion: We think that ipsilateral segmented ulna transposition keeping its own vascular supply to radius can be perfomed with one of procedures in cases with wide defect in radius.

  • Tuber yield and content of general component and diosgenin which is a main bioactive property were investigated in order to determine the growth characteristics of round typed yam(Dungeun-ma, Dioscorea opposita L.) and the potential of artificial culture at Suwon, Korea. Sprouting rates of segmented small tubers such as 3, 5, 7, 9, and 12g were respectively 60.3, 80.5, 85.3, 98.6 and 99.3% when they were investigated 30 days after planting. Segmented small tubers of 3, 5, 7, 9, and 12g enlarged respectively to 66, 87, 98, 120, and 140g in the green-house cultivation. Segmented small tubers of 3, 7, 12, 18, and 23g enlarged respectively to 35.2, 124.7, 142.7, 174.8, and 200,7g in the open-air field cultivation.

  • The 3 way segmented Maglev switch is developed for the urban Maglev vehicle, which is scheduled to debut at the middle of 2013 in Incheon International Airport. The 3 way switch is composed of 3 moving girders, 4 fixed girders, driving units, moving units, clamping units and articulated angle relieving equipment etc. In this paper, the measured results on the interaction between vehicle and switch are discussed. The measured results are following; First, continuous moving test and natural frequency for girder and levitation rail. Second, levitation and lateral air gap of the bogies running on the curved switch. Third, noise of moving mechanical parts of the 3 way segmented switch. Forth, thermal displacement of the girder due to temperature change. With over the measured results, more reliability and stability of the 3 way segmented switch are secured.

  • This paper presents image analysis method using a Markov random field(MRF) model. Particulary, image esgmentation is to partition the given image into regions. This scheme is first segmented into regions, and the obtained domain knowledge is used to obtain the improved segmented image by a Markov random field model. The method is a maximum a posteriori(MAP) estimation with the MRF model and its associated Gibbs distribution. MAP estimation method is applied to capture the natural image by TMS320C80(MVP) and to realize the segmented image by a MRF model.

  • Moving objects in video data are main elements for video analysis and retrieval. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for tracking and segmenting moving objects in color image sequences that include complex camera motion such as zoom, pan and rotating. The Proposed algorithm is based on the Mean-shift color segmentation and stochastic region matching method. For segmenting moving objects, each sequence is divided into a set of similar color regions using Mean-shift color segmentation algorithm. Each segmented region is matched to the corresponding region in the subsequent frame. The motion vector of each matched region is then estimated and these motion vectors are summed to estimate global motion. Once motion vectors are estimated for all frame of video sequences, independently moving regions can be segmented by comparing their trajectories with that of global motion. Finally, segmented regions are merged into the independently moving object by comparing the similarities of trajectories, positions and emerging period. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is capable of segmenting independently moving objects in the video sequences including complex camera motion.

  • This paper proposes a novel 16/10 segmented rotor switched reluctance motor (SSRM) for belt-driven starter generators (BSGs). Different from conventional SRMs, the stator of the proposed SSRM consists of two types of stator poles, i.e., exciting and auxiliary poles, and the rotor is constructed from a series of discrete segments. The topology and operation principle of this proposed SSRM are illustrated firstly, and then the design rules are listed. In addition, the finite element method (FEM) is employed to get the static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed SSRM. Finally, the simulation results are presented to show the validity of the proposed SSRM for BSGs.

  • The deterioration of dimensional accuracy, caused by springback, is one of problems to always occur In sheet metal forming processes. As the demand for lighter and stronger metals increases, the development of improved forming processes settling the springback problem becomes more important. In this work, asymmetric springback phenomena are investigated, which occur in the shallow-drawing process with the anisotropic sheet metal and axisymmetric tools. The improvement possibility of dimensional accuracies, mainly, flatness, was examined by applying segmented blank holding forces as a method for springback control.

  • In this paper, we propose a face detection algorithm using the color and shape information in color still images. The proposed algorithm is only applied to chrominance components(Cb and Cr) in order to reduce the variations of lighting condition in YCbCr color space. Input image is segmented by pixels with skin-tone color and then the segmented mage follows the morphological filtering an geometric correction to eliminate noise and simplify the segmented regions in facial candidate regions. Multiple facial regions in input images can be isolated by connected component labeling. Moreover tilting facial regions can be detected by extraction of second moment-based ellipse features.

  • Electro-active polymer, one of smart materials, is a new alternative technology, which can get an ultra precision movements and bio-compatibilty. This paper presents the relationship between elastic modulus and maximum deflection as a key property of maxwell stress effects and also presents the relationship between dielectric constant and maximum deflection as a key property of electro-striction effects in disc-type actuators using segmented PU. To induce equation about distributed load of a disc, we use boundary condition of fully clamped circular plate and to obtain design parameters of a micro-fluidics system, CFD simulation is performed.

  • According to the manufacturing process of the laminated stator core for an inserted permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), the iron loss may be different. It is because the mechanical stress imposed to electrical steel sheet is strongly dependent on the manufacturing process. This paper proposes a new iron loss measurement algorithm which utilizes the induced voltage of a search coil and exciting current. The method is effective even when the distribution of magnetic flux density is not uniform along the magnetic flux path as well as uniform. The developed iron loss measurement system is applied to bonded- and embossed-type segmented stator cores of an IPMSM, and the iron losses are quantitatively compared.
