  • Recently, computer-assisted surgery is popular for performing well-planned operations. Computer-aided navigation system is helpful in maxillofacial surgery with real time instrument positioning and clear anatomic identification. Generally, segmental mandibulectomy and reconstruction flap surgery have done by extra-oral approach such as, submandibular approach. This case report describes performing intra-oral segmental mandibulectomy and reconstruction with monocortical deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA) flap and CT guided implant surgery by using computer-aided surgical guide and navigation for managing ameloblastoma in a 31 years old female patient.

  • The purpose of this paper is to show the tendency of evaluators in the pronunciation evaluation of English utterances. The tendency was visualized using the evaluation model of English pronunciation proposed in [1]. One hundred fifty female university students and four evaluators participated in the study. Students read eight English sentences aloud as evaluators evaluated English pronunciation by their own criteria. The models based on their pronunciation evaluation proved to be efficient in showing their evaluation tendency in terms of the fundamental frequency, intensity, segmental durations, and segmental spectra as compared to those of the five native speakers of English chosen for building the models. However, human evaluators were not always consistent in their evaluation and sometimes gave conflicting scores to the same students.

  • This study is about Chinese tone evaluation system for Korean learners using speech technology, Chinese prounciaion system consists of initials, finals and tones. Initials/finals are in segmental level and tones are in suprasegmental level. So different method could be used assessing Korean users' Chinese. Differ from segmental level recognition method, we chose pattern matching method in evaluating Chinese tones. Firstly we defined speakers' own speech range and produced standard tonal pattern according to speakers' own range. And then we compared input patterns of users with referring patterns.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the viability of simulating one dialect with the speech segments of another dialect through prosody cloning. The hypothesis is that, among Korean regional dialects, it is not the segmental differences but the prosodic differences that play a major role in authentic dialect perception. This work intends to support the hypothesis by simulating Masan dialect with the speech segments from Seoul dialect. The dialect simulation was performed by transplanting the prosodic features of Masan utterances unto the same utterances produced by a Seoul speaker. Thus, the simulated Masan utterances were composed of Seoul speech segments but their prosody came from the original Masan utterances. The prosodic features involved were the fundamental frequency contour, the segmental durations, and the intensity contour. The simulated Masan utterances were evaluated by four native Masan speakers and the role of prosody in dialect authentication and speech synthesis was discussed.

  • This paper presents a technique of imposing the prosodic features of a native speaker's utterance onto the same sentence uttered by a non-native speaker. Three acoustic aspects of the prosodic features were considered: the fundamental frequency (F0) contour, segmental durations, and the intensity contour. The fundamental frequency contour and the segmental durations of the native speaker's utterance were imposed on the non-native speaker's utterance by using the PSOLA (pitch-synchronous overlap and add) algorithm [1] implemented in Praat[2]. The intensity contour transfer was also done in Praat. The technique of transferring one or more of these prosodic features was elaborated and its implications in the area of language education were discussed.

  • This is a report of one case about facial asymmetry involving maxilla & mandible. Le Fort I Maxillary Osteotomy & BSSRO is usually used for facial asymmetry patient involving maxilla & mandible. But Le Fort I Maxillary Osteotomy has demerits about more aggressive technique, more operation times, more discomforts of post operation nasal breathing than Unilateral maxillary Segmental Osteotomy. So we treated one patient successfully using Unilateral Maxillary Segmental Osteotomy, BSSRO & Post - Operation Rapid Orthodontics instead of Le Fort I Maxillary Osteotomy.

  • Surgical resection of the mandible due to presence of benign or malignant tumor is the most common cause of the mandibular deviation. Depending upon the location and extent of the tumor in the mandible, various surgical treatment modalities like marginal, segmental, hemi, subtotal, or total mandibulectomy can be performed. The clinicians must wait for extensive period of time for completion of healing and acceptance of the osseous graft before considering the definitive prosthesis. During this initial healing period prosthodontic intervention is required for preventing the mandibular deviation. This case report describes early prosthodontic management of a patient who has undergone a reconstructed hemi-mandibulectomy with modified mandibular guide flange prosthesis. The prosthesis helps patient moving the mandible normally without deviation during functions like speech and mastication.

  • Orthognathic surgery requires stable fixation for uneventful healing of osteotomized bony segments and optimal remodeling. Titanium plates and screws have been accepted as the gold standard for rigid fixation in orthognathic surgery. Although titanium osteofixation is the most widely used approach, the use of bioabsorbable devices has been increasing recently. Biodegradation of bioabsorbable devices eliminates the need for a second operation to remove metal plates and screws. However, long-term stability and relapse frequency in bioabsorbable osteofixation are still insufficiently studied, especially in cases of segmental movements of great magnitude or segmental movements to a position where bony resistance exists. This paper reviews the background, techniques, and complications of bioabsorbable osteofixation and compares bioabsorbable and titanium osteofixation in orthognathic surgery in terms of skeletal stability.

  • It was performed to encourage for Physical Therapist to apply the theory of center of the human body and segments in clinical situations. This study was investigated literarily on center of the human body and segments. Methods which search for the center-2 types, that is, method using reaction broad and segmental method-was suggested. The center location difference of gravity in human body depends on individual character. Generally, the center location is in kent of 2nd sacrum, that is, at $55\%$ of height from foot. The center of each segment is on 'link'. In the first place we must how the weight of segment we can search for the center easily. Mean segment coater location of extremities is at $42.33\%$ from each proximal end, and mean center of head and trunk lies at $45\%$.
