  • In this paper, a practical warhead tracking filter is proposed for developing a FMCW (Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) seeker with anti-ballistic missile capability. For reliable warhead tracking, the measurement originated from the warhead section of a ballistic target should be separated from other measurements. Futhermore, since the FMCW seeker is based on triangular frequency modulation, the multiple measurements obtained in different chirp periods should be properly associated. As a systematic way to solve the problem, the measurement pairing problem under cluttered environment is reformulated as a data association filtering problem and the PDA (Probabilistic Data Association) scheme is applied. The proposed warhead tracking filter provides better warhead tracking performance compared to the conventional range tracking algorithm and nearest neighbor warhead tracking filter. The effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method are verified using the FMCW seeker simulator.

  • Ecotourism as a alternative tourism destination has to adapt to current market mechanisms, which is becoming extremely competitive and which are dominated by communication and promotion strategies and techniques. We need to know the causative factors and influences by which tourists are motivated to become included in various market segments. The primary purpose of this study is to segment and profile the motivations of ecotourist, so as to enable a better understanding of ecotourism in Korea. A self-administered survey was collected from 200 tourists in the study area. A factor-clustering method identified four distinct segments: want-it-all seeker, passive seeker, aesthetic seeker, value sharing seeker. We conclude by considering the relevant of our findings to ongoing discussions of ecotourists' market segmentation.

  • This research verified efficiency of 2 design process models; 2-stage model and 3-stage model. 2-stage model means subjective and sensitive design process based on designer's creative mind. Contrarily, 3-stage model means objective, logical and consumer-oriented design process. Past researches have suggested inconsistent conclusions on efficiency of 2 design process models. This study suggested efficiency of 2 design process model based on the concept of market leader strategy and market seeker strategy. The study results imply that, in condition of high prestige brand, 2-stage model based on market leader strategy is more effective and contrarily in case of low prestige brand, 3-stage model based on market seeker strategy is more efficient. However, it is requested to perform various investigation about situations in which each design process model is more effective for the generalization of the study results.

  • In this paper, a 3-port waveguide circulator of Ka-band millimeter-wave for isolation between transmit channel and receive channel at high power transmit mode is designed and fabricated for the seeker of the guided missile and circulator performance is verified through the S-parameter, high power and operation temperature test. At the configuration design, interface design between a seeker antenna and the circulator is considered and half-height of standard waveguide is applied for minimum and light weight body. The shape of permanent magnet and ferrite is optimized by simulation and tuning dielectrics at each port are placed for the best performance. In Fc(center frequency)${\pm}1000MHz$, designed waveguide circulator has below -20 dB return loss, below 0.5 dB insertion loss and below -23 dB isolation. It is found that circulator characteristics is similar to design results.

  • Tracking and detecting targets by the microwave seeker is affected by the clutter reflecting from the earth's surface. In order to detect retreating targets in look-down scenario, which appear in the sidelobe clutter (SLC) region, in the microwave seeker of high pulse repetition frequency (HPRF) mode, it is necessary to understand statistical characteristics of the surface SLC. Statistical analysis of SLC has been conducted for several kinds of the surface using data obtained by the captive flight test of the microwave seeker in the HPRF mode. The probability density function (PDF) fitting is conducted for several kinds and conditions of the surface. PDFs and PDF parameters, which best describe statistical distribution of the SLC power, are estimated. By using the estimated PDFs and PDF parameters, analyses for setting the target-detection thresholds, which give a desired level of target-detection false alarm probability, are made. These analysis materials for statistical characteristics of SLC power and the target-detection threshold can be used in various fields, such as development of a target-detection method, the constant false alarm rate processing.

  • Reticle systems, which are widely used in infrared (IR) missile seekers, are considered to be the classical approach for estimating the position of a target in the field of view (FOV). This paper presents an effective simulation tool that gives tracking results of the concentric annular ring reticle seeker. We construct the concentric annular ring reticle seeker on Matlab-Simulink for a dynamic simulation. Our simulation model provides tracking results in various cases, and is applicable to the study of the development of the advanced seekers. While false targets such as flares are presented in the FOV, simulation results show that the existing seeker cannot determine a precise target location. In order to decrease the susceptibility to countermeasures such as flares, we propose an efficient counter-countermeasure using the correlated relationship of modulated signals and the references. We have ascertained that the reticle seeker using our technique make more effective target tracking than previous seekers.

  • The line-of-sight(LOS) rate is estimated using Kalman filter in Radio-Frequency(RF) seeker. For the two axis gimbaled seeker, proper system modeling is considered and the basic filter structure is set up. The main issue for Kalman filter is choosing the proper process and measurement noise. For the measurement process, the signal to noise ratio(SNR) and other components are introduced. To cope with the eclipse problem or other abnormal seeker status, the pseudo input signal concept is proposed. By conditioning abnormal signals, the LOS rate estimation performance is increased. The process noise is also an important factor in the propagation phase. The analytical approach on a process noise component is performed and a reliable region for the filter is calculated based on the eigenvalue analysis. Some numerical simulations are performed to check the validity of suggested algorithm.

  • In a bank-to-turn(BTT) missile, if a 2-gimbaled seeker was stabilized using a 2-axis rate gyro mounted along its primary axis, the change of line of sight(LOS) measured by the seeker would be induced by rolling effects due to bank-to-turn(BTT) steering as well as an actual change. It is observed that the body-coupled effects in a homing loop of BTT missile are mainly concerned with the spurious target maneuver and the coupling due to the rate gyro misalignments. In this paper, we formulate a simple linear BTT homing loop model with seeker model including each body-coupling. With the model, we analyze the effects of the couplings on the homing loop stability, and propose a direct linear compensator for the coupling to recover the stability.

  • In this paper, we designed a compact frequency synthesizer with multi-function for Ka-band seeker. DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer) is applied to generate various waveform and to cover high-speed frequency sweep. In order to reduce size, waveform generator and frequency up-converter are integrated in one module. Proposed frequency synthesizer provides precise detection and tracking waveform for low and high speed targets. It is observed that fabricated synthesizer performs $0.45{\mu}sec$ frequency switching time and -93.69 dBc/Hz phase noise at offset 1 kHz. The size of the synthesizer is kept within 120 mm width, 120 mm length and 22 mm height.

  • In this work, infrared targets for a developed hardware-in-the-loop simulation(HILS) system are proposed for a performance test of a dual-sensor imaging seeker equipped with an infrared and a visible sensor that can lock and track for ground and air targets. This integrated system is composed of 100 modules of heat and light sources to simulate various kinds of target and the trajectory of moving targets based on scenarios. It is possible to simulate not only the position, velocity, and direction for these targets but also background clutter and jamming environments. The design and measurement results of an infrared target, such as the HILS system configuration, developed for testing and evaluation of a dual-sensor imaging seeker are described. In the future, it is planned to test the lock-on and tracking performance of an imaging seeker equipped with single or dual sensors dynamically in real time based on a simulation flight scenario in the developed HILS system.
