Effect of Temperature on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Peucedanum japonicum Thunberct

  • The objective of this study is to investigate morphological characteristics of seeds and effects of environmental factors such as light and temperature on the germination and seedling growth of Peucedanum japonicum Thunberct, Which belongs to Umbelliferae and useful for on oriental medicine materials. Seed shape of Peucedanum japonicum Thunberct is ovate. Color of seed coats varied from yellow to dark brown. Seed size is 5.3mm in length, 4.2mm in width. One thousand-seed weight of Peucedanum japonicum Thunberct is 4,010mg. Optimum temperatures for seed germination and seedling growth range from 20 to $25^{\circ}C$.

  • Special objective of this study is to investigate morphological characteristics of seeds and effects of environmental factors such as light and temperature on their germination and seedling growth of Angelica acutilobu in Umbelliferae plants, using them as oriental medicine materials. Seed shape of Angelica acutilobu is ovate. Color of seed coats varied from yellow to dark brown. Seed size was 5.5 mm in length, 4.0mm in width. One thousand-seed weight of Angelica acutilobus was 3,210mg. Optimum temperatures for seed germination and seedling growth ranged from 20 to $25^{\circ}C$.

종자 입정을 이용한 저전압용 ZnO 바리스터의 제조 (Fabrication of Low Voltage ZnO Varistor by Seed Grain Method)

  • Low-voltage ZnO-based varistors were made by seed grain method at various sintering conditions. Their microstructure and electrical properties were investigated and comlpared with those of the ZnO varistors made by a conventional method at the same sintering condition. During the sintering process, the added seed ZnO grain rapidly grew to be a gaint grain(above 500$\mu\textrm{m}$) provinding easy current path. Therefore the breakdown voltage was lowered as much as the order of 1/10-1/5 in comparison to that of the varistor made by a conventional method. But the grain size of the giant ZnO was little influenced by sintering condition, so the breakdown voltate was also little influenced. The weight loss was decreased by the addition of the seed grain, because the giant grain decreased the evaporation area. Therefore the nonobmic property of the specimen made by seed grain method was little influencedby sintering condition. In this research the low-voltage varistor made by seed grain method showed the least leakage current when sintered at 1150$^{\circ}C$ for zero hour.

홍화씨의 경골골절치유에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Safflower-seed on the Fracture Healing in Rat Tibia)

  • We investigated the effect of safflower-seed on fracture healing of fracture model in rat. Fracture healing was evaluated by examining the degree of wound healing macroscopically, radiography, bone histomorphometry and biochemical examination. After 1, 3, 5, 7 days, the would healing was accelerate in safflower-seed diet group. Radiography does not reveal the difference in fracture healing between two group. After 2 weeks, safflower-seed had a significant, stimulatory effect on external callus formation (p<0.05). But after 4, 6, 8 weeks, no difference was observed between normal and safflower-seed dietgroup in callus size. Urinary hydroxyproline, osteocalcin and total alkaline phosphatase decreased significantly (p<0.05) in safflower-seed treated group at 2 week after tracture.

  • Polycrystalline silicon thin-film-transistors (Poly-Si TFT's) with a amorphous-$Si_xGe_y$ seed layer have been fabricated to improve the performance of TFT. The dependence of crystal structure and electrical characteristics on the the Ge fractions in $Si_xGe_y$ seed layer were investigated. As a result, the increase of grain size and enhancement of electrical characteristics were obtained from the poly-Si TFT's with amorphous-SixGey seed layer.

감자의 양액재배 소괴경의 절편크기 및 절편수에 따른 생육 및 수량 (Effects of Seed-piece Size and Seed-piece Number Per a Hydroponiclly Grown Mini-tuber on Growth and Yield of Potato)

  • 양액재배산 소괴경의 절단 재배 가능성을 검토하고자 2001년 분무경 양액재배산 괴경을 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13g의 절편이 되도록 1(전서), 2, 3, 4개로 절단하여 플러그묘판에서 출아시켜 이식재배한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 파종 후 35일에 출현율은 절편크기가 7-13g에서 83.0-85.4%, 3, 4절단서 재식구에서 84.0-86.6%로 높았다. 2. 10a당 총서 및 종서규격서 수량은 절편크기가 3g에서 9g으로 증가됨에 따라 10a당 총서수량은 각각 2,052kg과 1,589kg에서 2,924kg과 2,428kg으로 크게 증가되었으나 그 이상 절편의 무게가 증가되었을 때에는 괴경수량의 증가는 크지 않았다. 3. 10a당 총서수량은 전서 재식구에서 1,918kg이었던 것이 3절 절단서 재식구에서 2,982kg로 증가되었고 종서규격서 수량도 전서 재식구에서 1,422kg/10a이었던 것이 3절 절단서 재식구에서 2,579kg으로 증가되었으나 3, 4절 절단서 재식구 간에는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 4. 평균서중은 절편크기가 3g에서 13g으로 증가함에 따라 46.3g에서 71.5g으로 증가되었으며, 전서 및 2절 절단서 재식구의 56.5g과 58.0g보다 3, 4절에서 재식구에서 63.6g과 64.9g으로 무거웠다.

  • 잣나무 종자(種子)의 무게, 크기(길이 및 두께) 및 성숙기(成熟期)(올잣과늦잣)가 묘목(苗木)의 초기생장(初期生長)(묘종당년생장(苗種當年生長)에 미치는 영향(影響)을 알기 위(爲)하여 강원대학연습림(江原大學演習林)에서 채취(採取)한 종자(種子)를 재료(材料)로 종자(種子)의 무게, 크기 및 성숙기별(成熟期別)로 비교적(比較的) 균일(均一)한 환경조건하(環境條件下)에서 일년간(一年間) pot재배(栽培)하여 각생장(各生長)(묘목(苗木)의 생중량(生重量, 묘장(苗丈), 묘경(苗徑), 지하부장(地下部長), 자엽수(子葉數), 자엽장(子葉長))을 조사검토(調査檢討)했는바 다음과 같은 결과(結果)를 얻었다. 1. 발아율(發芽率)은 종자(種子)의 무게 및 크기의 차이(差異)에는 영향(影響)을 받지 않으나, 성숙기별(成熟期別)로는 차이(差異)가 있어 늦잣이 올잣보다 높은 발아율(發芽率)을 보이고 있었다. 2. 성숙기별(成熟期別) 영향(影響)은 발아율(發芽率)에 대(對)한 기여율(寄與率) 18.3%였다. 3. 종자(種子)의 무게, 길이 및 두께의 차이(差異)는 묘목(苗木)의 초기(初期) 각생장(各生長)에 크게 영향(影響)을 주어, 무게나 크기가 클수록 각생장(各生長)도 컸다. 특(特)히 종자(種子)의 무게나 길이 및 두께의 차이(差異)는 묘목(苗木)의 생중량(生重量), 묘경(苗徑) 및 자엽장(子葉長)에 대(對)한 영향(影響)이 커서 약(約) 50~90%까지 달(達)하고 있었다. 4. 종자(種子)의 무게나 두께의 차(差)가 종자(種子)의 길이의 차(差)보다 초기생장(初期生長)에 더욱 큰 영향(影響)을 주는 경향(傾向)이었다. 5. 성숙기별(成熟期別)로는 늦잣이 올잣보다 묘목(苗木)의 생중량(生重量), 묘경(苗徑) 및 자엽장(子葉長)에 있어서 우세(優勢)했으나 그 영향(影響)은 크지 못했다.

Isoflavone Content and its Relationship with Other Seed Quality Traits of Soybean Cultivars Collected in South Korea

  • The 117 soybean cultivars were collected from nine provinces in Korea, and various seed quality traits along with isoflavone contents were evaluated to elucidate their relationship. The 100-seed weight of the black soybean (31.2 g) was significantly higher (p<0.05) than yellow soybeans (28.6 g). The composition of genistein, daidzein, and glycitein accounted for 75.8, 22.8, and 1.4 % of total isoflavone in yellow soybean cultivars, while their compositions in black soybeans were 58.5, 39.7, and 1.8%, respectively. The mean contents of total isoflavone in yellow and black soybean were $l,561.6{\mu}g\;g^{-1}\;and\;l,018.3{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$. The isofalvone content showed significant variation among cultivars when classified by the seed size. In the yellow soybeans, total isoflavone content was higher in small size soybean cultivars $(1,776.0{\mu}g\;g^{-1})$ and medium size soybean cultivars $(1,714.3{\mu}g\;g^{-1})$ compared to large size ones $(1,518.5{\mu}g\;g^{-1})$. Genistein content was proved as the major factor determining the relationship between isoflavone content and 100-seed weights (r =-0.206*). Daidzein and glycitein, however, showed no significant relationship with the 100-seed weights. Isoflavone content was not significantly correlated with color parameters L (lightness) and a (redness) values, but color parameter b (yellowness) was positively correlated with glycitein (r=0.264*) in the yellow soybeans, while its negative correlation between daidzein (r=-0.245*) and total isoflavone (r=-0.256*) were observed in black soybeans. However, these findings suggested that the seed color value may not serve as an effective parameter for estimating the isoflavone intensity of the soybeans. Variation of protein and lipid contents between yellow soybeans (n=58) and black soybeans (n=59) was relatively stable, however, protein and lipid contents have no significant relationship with isoflavone content.

장류용 고품질, 대립 콩 신품종 '대왕' (A New Soybean Cultivar 'Daewang' with High Quality and Large Seed Size)

  • '대왕'은 대립이며 종자 특성이 우수한 GWS91을 모본으로 하고 '석량풋콩'을 부본으로 1996년도에 인공교배를 하고 1997년부터 1998년까지 $F_1-F_2$ 양성하였다. 1999년부터 2001년도에 $F_3-F_5$ 세대를 계통육종법으로 선발한 GSL96202-2B-1-3-7계통으로 계통명은 '강원106호'이다. 주요 특성은 다음과 같다. 1. 유한신육형이며 꽃색은 자색이고 엽형은 난형이다. 입형은 구형이고 종피색은 황색, 제색은 황색이며 100립중은 33.6g으로 대립이다. 2. 개화기는 7월 27일, 성숙기는 10월 20일로 '태광콩'에 비하여 만생종이다. 3. 종실 성분중 조단백질 함량은 38.3%로 조단백질 함량에서 '태광콩'보다 다소 많았으며, 조지방 함량은 17.1%로 다소 낮았다. 기능성 성분중 아이소플라본 함량이 $1,851{\mu}g/g$로 다소 높았다. 4. 수량성은 2004년부터 2007년까지 4개년간 실시한 지역 적응시험결과 강원도 4개소 평균수량은 2.68 MT/ha로 '태광콩' 2.56 MT/ha보다 약 4% 증수하였다.

The Relationship between Hardness and Vitreousity of Korean Wheat Cultivars

  • Milling is an important process that determines the quality of flour and is affected by milling machine type, scale, and tempering conditions. In addition, seed hardness is an important factor in determining the amount of tempering water and has been reported to affects flour yield and flour quality. There are reports that vitreousity is used as a measure to distinguish between soft and hard seeds, and the higher the vitreousity, the higher the protein contents. However, there is no established system for measuring viterousity of seeds and studies on the vitreousity and quality characteristics of flour are insufficient. Therefore, in this study, vitreousity, hardness, and milling characteristics were evaluated for 46 major domestic varieties, and their relationship was confirmed. After cutting the seeds using a seed cutter, vitreousity was measured, and seed hardness and flour particle size was measured using SKCS and PSI, respectively. As for the seed hardness index, 'Joa' was the lowest with 11.6, 'Yeonbaek' was the highest with 78.7. As for the milling yield, 'Saeol' had the lowest at 58.1%, and 'Hcjoong' had the highest at 88.6%. Seed hardness index and wheat flour production showed a high positively correlation, showing a similar to that of previous studies. Also, in flour particle size, 'Gobun' was the largest at 75.5 pm, and 'Joa' was the smallest at 43.1 um. Flour yield and flour particle size showed a high positively correlation. As a result of vitreousity, 'Hwangeumal' (55.2%), 'Saekeumkang' (59.1%), 'Baekkang' (52.3%), 'Goso' (44.6%), and 'Joa' (19.2%) were showed. Seed hardness and vitreousity showed a high positively correlation. Also as the vitreousity increased, the flour yield also showed a tendency to increase. In addition, as the seed hardness increased, particle size of the flour yield also showed a tendency to increase. It is thought that this result can be used as a measure to determine the quality of flour with vitreousity. However, further analysis of wheat varieties and methods of analyzing vitreousity are needed.
