  • The algal blooms in stagnant streams and lakes have caused many problems. Excessive algae leads to disturbance of ecosystem and overload of water treatment processes. Therefore, phosphorus(P), source of algal blooms, should be controlled. In this study, a filtration trench has been developed to convert dissolved phosphorus into hydroxyapatite(HAP) so that it could be crystallized on the surface of 'phosphorus removal granular material'; and residual particulate phosphorus could be removed by additional precipitation and filtration. The front and rear parts of filtration trench consisted of 'phosphorus removal granular material contact bed' and 'limestone filtration bed', respectively. As a result of the column test using phosphorus removal granular material and limestone serially, $PO_4-P$ was removed more than 90% when EBCT(empty bed contact time) of the contact bed was over 20 minutes; and T-P represented 60% of removal efficiency when total EBCT was over 1.5 hours. The results of column tests to figure out the sedimentation characteristics showed that more than 90% of particulate phosphorus could be removed within 24 hours. It was necessary to optimize the filtration part in order to increase removal efficiency of T-P additionally. Also, it was confirmed through the simulation of Visual MINTEQ that most of particulate phosphorus in the column tests is the form of HAP. Based on the results of the study, it could be suggested that the design parameters are over 0.5 hour of EBCT for phosphorus removal granular material contact bed and over 1.5 hours of EBCT for limestone filtration bed.

  • During the four river restoration project, several weirs were constructed in the four rivers to prevent drought and flood, to improve water quality, and to manage water resources. However, due to the weir construction, bed changes are produced in the upstream channel of installed weirs because the incoming flow velocity is reduced and sediment transport capacity is also lowered. Especially, since the Haman Weir is located in the lowest downstream section among newly installed weirs in Nakdong River, bed change and sedimentation problems are expected due to the mild slope and reduced velocity. Therefore, numerical simulation was performed to analyze flow and bed changes in the upstream channel of Haman Weir and to evaluate quantitatively sediment control methods for bed stabilization using CCHE2D model. As a result of flow and bed change simulation after installation of Haman Weir, the flow velocity at the initial condition was faster than the final bed condition with the specific simulation time and it was represented that the locations where bed changes were great were identical for all modeling conditions of flow discharge. In case of 4.5 m of water level lowered from 5.0 m of the management water level at Haman Weir for bed stabilization, the flow velocity was generally faster than the case of the management water level and the continuous erosion was developed at the most narrow channel section as the applied discharge and simulation period were increased. The channel width extension at the most narrow channel section was proposed in this study to prevent and stabilize continuos bed erosion. As a result of numerical analysis, there was no bed erosion after channel width extension and it was presented that the channel geometry extension was effective for bed stabilization at Haman Weir.

  • Generally, the accuracy of the prediction of flood elevation is difficult to identify due to the sedimentation on a river bed, earth and sand being moved by flow, and localized torrential downpours caused by climate change. It is also because of natural and artificial influences on rivers. To predict river floodings successfully, more precise and reliable flood elevation prediction system is needed, in which the concentration time of downstream is numerically interpreted through analyzing and utilizing the watermark of the upper region. Therefore, this research analyzed the prediction methods of the changes in water levels, which use the watermarks of the upper region. The watermarks which impacts the spot being predicted of flood was selected through floodgate analysis and correlation analysis. With the selected watermarks, a statistically reliable regression equation was yielded.

  • In this study, the characteristics of river bed profile fluctuation are become possible to be used effectively in future estimation of Taehwa river general development plan through analysis and examination according to the effects of sediment protection weir located in the area of the estuary of Taehwa river's main channel using HEC-6 model. The flow conditions needed in analysis of the characteristics of river bed profile fluctuation refer the conditions of flow which secures 95 days in a year, flood flow, and design flood examined in the estimation of Taehwa river maintenance basic plan. First, in analysis result of river bed variation range, there is no significant variation in upstream section from Samho-gyo while there are the more active erosion and sedimentation as the more flow in downstream from Samho-gyo. Next, from the result of the capacity of sediment transfer, it is analyzed that sediment transfer capacity in the area of estuary of Taehwa river has no significant difference in before and after removal of the sediment protection weir when design flood flows while it is estimated that the more flow, the bigger sediment transfer capacity. Therefore, it is thought that the installation of a suitable hydraulic structure at the lowest point of Dong-chun tributary joins from the downstream of Taehwa river can be a good device to reduce the accumulation of sediments at the lowest point of Taehwa river considering the reduction plan of sediment inflow caused by removal of the sediment protection weir.

  • The sedimentation processes and heavy metal distributions at the Nakdong estuary were investigated during October 1987 and September 1988. The depositional sedimentary environment of the studied area was estuarine environments and was divided into three provinces depending on its textural parameters such as barrier, tidal falt, and water passes. The relationship between the textural parameters showed that the barrier was under strong wave action, that the tidal flat was under relatively weak wind-driven currents, and that the water passes were under strong and continuous tidal currents. Each environments was resulted from different transport mechanism. the sand barrier sediments were transported by all three populations including suspension, saltation, and bed load, and water pass-deposited sediments were by the bad load with some suspension population. In water mass over the studied area, the concentrations of heavy metals including Cu, Cd, $Cr^{+6}$, Pb and Zn were recorded to be 27.8, 6.7, 20.4, 16.3, and 37.3 ppb in their highest concentrations, respectively. and those in sediments were 20.0, 1.65, 25.4, 15.4, and 132.0 ppm, respectively. The total up take factored of Cu, Cd, $Cr^{+6}$, Pb, and Zn by V. Muller (corbicula fluminea) were 1600, 310, 310, 490 and 7900, respectively.

결국 한자어와 고유어는 기본적으로 외래어와 다른 처리를 보이면 한자어와 고유어 내에서도 한자어는 단어접근 전에 의미접근의 단계를 거쳐야 하지만 고유어는 각 음절이 형태소가 아니기 때문에 바로 어휘에 접근하는 것이라고 할 수 있겠다.ulic geometry and sediment transport has been applied to: (1) gravel-bed transport measurements in a cobble-bed stream at Little Granite Creek, Wyoming; (2) sand and gravel transport by size fraction in the sharp meander bends of Fall River, Colorado; (3) changes in sand dune geometry and resistance to flow during major floods of the Rhine River in the Netherlands; (4) changes in hydraulic geometry of the Rio Grande downstream of Cochiti Dam, New Mexico; and (5) analysis of the influence of water temperature and the Coriolis force on flow velocity and sediment transport of the Lower Mississippi River in Louisiana. • This investigation was aimed at developing a ready-to-reconstitute beverage by utilizing probiotics and whey protein hydrolysates carrying bioactive peptides. Cheddar cheese whey was ultrafiltered. The 18% protein retentate was subjected to protein hydrolysis using Neutrase. The hydrolyzed retentate was further condensed to 35% total solids and spray-dried at $75^{\circ}C$ outlet air temperature. Different levels of sugar, citric acid and stabilizer were blended for spray-dried hydrolysates. Spray-dried hydrolysate was further inoculated with different levels of probiotics grown in a whey medium and dried in fluidized-bed drier at $40^{\circ}C$ to obtain a ready-to-reconstitute beverage. Hydrolysis was greatest at an enzyme:substrate ratio of 1:25 for 3 h. Spray-dried hydrolysate reconstituted to 1% protein and blended with 15% sugar, 0.2% citric acid and 0.15% xantham gum resulted in a superior product with no sedimentation. Accordingly, sugar, citric acid and xanthum gum were dry-blended with spray-dried hydrolysates. Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus that was grown separately in a whey medium, blended to produce 2% spray-dried hydrolysate and dried as described above resulted in a readyto-reconstitute beverage mix. The fluidized dried product typically exhibited a probiotic count of $10^8$colony forming units (CFU)/g. However, blending of probiotic to the retentate and direct spray-drying precipitously reduced the probiotic count to $10^4$ CFU/g of powder.

  • Performance limiting factors (PLFs) derived from 161 drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs), assessed by International Technical Diagnosis & Assistance Center, were analyzed and evaluated in more detail in this study. In order to conduct study, 161 DWTPs were divided into five categories depending on their capacity, and into twelve groups according to processes and facilities. From the results of analysis, PLFs and their distribution ratio derived from each category were significantly different. Filtration was the most important performance limiting process in all DWTPs of five categories, and the PLFs in filtration were backwashing velocity, media configuration, bed depth, and formation of mud-ball. The PLFs in coagulation-flocculation process were found out to be coagulant dosage, mixing speed, mechanical problems, and others in the order of frequency of occurrence. Also, insufficient disinfection ability that is resulted from insufficient hydraulic detention time and improper chlorine dose and injection point, is the most significant among PLFs in a clear well. In the case of sedimentation, inappropriate baffle structure and excessive upward velocity were PLFs. In addition, the results showed that high turbid water and low alkalinity in a rainy season, ferric and manganese ions, and ammonia nitrogen have been contributed significantly on the performance of DWTPs.

  • A new treatment system for animal waste water has been developed as an alternative to the activated sludge process. It consists of two treatments; one is operated with 7 tanks, and the other is soil and plant cultivation bed. Aerobic microorganisms are added to the influent water in the tanks where the water is aerated so that the microbes utilize the pollutants, while sedimentation removes the indigestible solids. In the secondary treatment the water, which has already received a primary treatment, is filtered through soil where it also receives treatment by soil organisms. In addition there is transpiration of water and absorption of minerals by plants. In the primary treatment BOD, SS, coliforms (E. coli), TP and total bacteria were removed 79-99%, but COD and TN were removed only 58% and 36%, respectively. In the secondary treatment removal of nutrients proceeded further, and 93-99% of pollutants were removed. The treated waters met the quality standard of discharge water in Japan except for TN, which was in too great a concentration to meet discharge standards. This problem requires further study.

  • The Sejong Formation of Late Paleocene to Eocene is a lower volcaniclastic sequence unconformably overlain by upper volcanic sequence, and distributed along the southern and southeastern cliffs of the Barton Peninsula. The Sejong Formation is divided into five sedimentary facies; disorganized matrix-supported conglomerate (Facies A), disorganized clast-supported conglomerate (Facies B), stratified clast-supported conglomerate (Facies C), thin-bedded sandstone (Facies D), and lapilli tuff (Facies E), based on sedimentary textures, primary sedimentary structures and bed geometries. Individual sedimentary facies is characterized by distinct sedimentary process such as gravel-bearing mudflows or muddy debris flows (Facies A), cohesionless debris flows (Facies B),unconfined or poorly confined hyperconcentrated flood flows and sheet floods (Facies C), subordinate streamflows (Facies D), and pyroclastic flows (Facies E). Deposition of the Sejong Formation was closely related to volcanic activity which occurred around the sedimentary basin. Four different phases of sediment filling were identified from constituting sedimentary facies. Thick conglomerate and sandstone were deposited during inter-eruptive phases (stages 1, 3 and 4), whereas lapilli tuff was formed by pyroclastic flows during active volcanism (stage 2). These records indicate that active volcanism occurred around the Barton Peninsula during Late Paleocene to Eocene.
