We use spectral correlation method to analyze gravity and magnetic anomalies of Euiseong Sub-basin for distribution of rock facies and gelogic structures. The analysis reveals distinct polarity between gravity and magnetic anomaly correlation ; intermediate to mafic intrusives, extrusives, and the Tertiary basin shows positive gravity (+G) and positive magnetic (+M) correlation. Granitic gneiss and felsic volcanics negative gravity 9-G) and negative magnetic (-M) correlation. The Palgongsan granite, felsic to mafic extrusives and Mesozoic granites are characterized by -G and + M correlation. +G and -M correlations in the sedimentary formations are interpreted by uplift of pre-Cretaceous basement rocks . The + G and + M correlation characteristics in northeastern part of Euiseong Sub-basin including the Tertiary sedimentary basin result from the uplift of crustal materials. Major axes of spectrally correlated amomalies have mostly NW-SE or NE-SW directions. The former is due to the intrusives along strike-slip faults, and the latter which is observed in sedimentary formations is related to geological structures of basement associated new insight into the boundary between Euiseong and Milyang Sub-basin.

Analysis of multi-channel seismic reflection data from the Southern Ulleung Basin reveals that Plio-Quaternary section in the area consists of nine stacked sedimentary units separated by erosional unconformities. On the southern slope, these sedimentary units are acoustically characterized by chaotic seismic facies without distinct internal reflections, interpreted as debris-flow bodies. Toward the basin floor, the sedimentary units are defined by well-stratified facies with good continuity and strong amplitude, interpreted as turbidite/hemipelagic sediments. The seismic facies distribution suggests that deposition of Plio-Quaternary section in the area was controlled mainly by tectonic movement and sea-level fluctuations. During the Pliocene, sedimentation was mainly controlled by tectonic movements related to the back-arc closure of the East Sea. The back-arc closure that began in the Miocene caused compressional deformation along the southern margin of the Ulleung Basin, resulting in regional uplift which continued until the Pliocene. Large amounts of sediments, eroded from the uplifted crustal blocks, were supplied to the basin, depositing Unit 1 which consists of debris-flow deposits. During the Quaternary, sea-level fluctuations resulted in stacked sedimentary units (2-9) consisting of debris-flow deposits, formed during sea-level fall and lowstands, and thin hemipelagic/turbidite sediments, deposited during sea-level rise and highstands.

This study was carried out to investigate the benthic polychaetous community and benthic ecosystem quality status on the adjacent continental shelf of Jeju Island, and field surveys were conducted at 31 stations in July and August, 2020. The surface sediment was generally composed of muddy sand facies and sandy mud facies, and the average particle size was medium silt (6.1±1.6∅). The benthic polychaetous community revealed a total of 73 species with a mean density of 242 ind./m2. The major dominant species were Notomastus latericeus, Ampharete arctica and Onuphis shirikishinaiensis. By the cluster analysis and nMDS results based on species composition of the benthic polychaetous community, the study area was divided into three station groups arranged from east to west by the water depth and sedimentary facies. The station group located in the west was subdivided into two station groups from south to north. From results of correlation analysis and PCA, it was found that the benthic polychaetous community in the study area had a strong correlation with the sedimentary environment and water depth. The benthic faunal community (or ecosystem) on the adjacent continental shelf of Jeju Island was assessed to be in a healthy state by biotic indices such as AMBI and BPI.
The sedimentary succession on the northern coast of Jindo and the adjacent area comprises the thinly bedded, fine-grained deposits of an epiclastic sandstone, siltstone, black shale/mudstone, and cherty mudstone (ca. 200m in vertical thickness), which are interpreted as the finely stratified turbidites mainly by density underflow-induced currents. Most deposits can be divided into eight facies: thin-bedded, ash-rich massive sandstone layer (mS), graded and laminated mudstone layer (glM), graded mudstone layer with ripple lamination (rM), laminated and graded siltstone layer (lgZ), finely laminated black shale layer (IBS), structureless mudstone layer (mM), thin-bedded cherty mudstone layer (lCM), and contorted and laminated mudstone layer (dlM), The thin-bedded, ash-rich sandstone facies is interpreted to be deposited from high-density turbid underflows during a relatively large flooding. Most thinly bedded mudstone facies would be deposited from low-density turbid underflows (turbidity currents) with some different hydrodynamic condition and sediment concentration during the high discharge of river water. Whereas the structureless mudstone facies may result from raining down of suspended sediment intermittently supplied by overflows and interflows. From the entire succession, graded and laminated mudstone layers interbedded with thin-bedded, ash-rich massive sandstone are dominant in the lower part of the succession, and graded mudstone layers with ripple lamination ripple lamination occur mainly in the middle part of it. On the other hand, iaminated/raded siltstone and contorted/laminated mudstone layers prevail in the upper part. The transition of facies association is suggestive of the continuous change of main depositional setting from basin plain to lower slope, which could be due to the movement of depocenter by the increase of sediment supply (volcanic activity).
The sedimentary processes of the Ganghwa tidal flat has been changed over 20 years because of the large-scale construction projects. The sedimentary environment of the Donggum tidal flat, located in the eastern part of Ganghwa tidal flat and in the lower reaches of Yeomha channel, was affected by changes the tidal current regime and estuarine circulation. These resulted an occurrence of rapid deposition in the tidal flat. The silt-clay laminated silt facies in the upper parts of two core sediments suggested that deposition had been relatively high in the tidal flat. The sedimentation rates from the cores using $^{210}Pb$ analysis were 3.25cm/year(st. 3) and 3.47cm/year(st. 5). However the short-term sediment accumulation rates from 2010 to 2012 were mostly less than 1cm/year, indicated that the sediments deposited relatively low rates. As a result, the sediment in the Donggum tidal flat rapidly accumulated during 2000s due to constructions of man-made structures. Recently, the increase of elevation in the tidal flat resulted to show relatively low sedimentation rate with seasonal variations.
Analysis on high-resolution seismic and core data reveals that the sedimentary strata in Gyeonggi Bay consists of four sedimentary units (Unit I-IV, from top to bottom) formed during the late Quaternary period. Unit I is interpreted as sediments of tidal flat and channel-fill deposits, formed during the Holocene transgression. Unit II is divided into shallow-marine facies unit in offshore area and channelized fluvial to estuarine facies unit in nearshore sand ridge and tidal flat. Unit III is considered as tidal flat deposits with the uppermost severely weathered and oxydized layers. This unit is composed of shallow marine sedimentary successions formed during the MIS-5 highstand. The lowermost Unit IV rests on Mesozoic basement rocks, considered as the shallow marine and shelf deposits formed before the MIS-5 lowstand.
Multi-channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) and Seismic Cone Penetration Test (SCPT) have been recently developed to obtain S-wave velocity profiles which were conventionally investigated by a down-hole seismic survey. For unconsolidated sedimentary sites, we studied these three methods, and compared the results with a drilling log. All the methods showed that the changes in the S-wave velocities were consistent with the changes in the sedimentary facies. In addition, the SCPT was most sensitive to changes in sedimentary facies among the three profiles. The results of the SCPT showed that there exists a low velocity zone, which is mainly composed of clayey sand, at the depth of 8${\sim}$12m in the sediments.
Surface sediments for sedimentary analyses were sampled at 199 stations in the study area in August 2003. The surface sediments consisted of six sedimentary facies. Generally, sandy mud sediments dominated in the southern tidal flat of Ganghwa Island and sand sediments dominated in channel and subtidal zones of the western part of Ganghwa Island. The area of sandy mud sediment extended to eastward tidal flat compared to sedimentary facies in August 1997. In 30 surface sediment samples from the Ganghwa tidal flat and subtidal zone, 61 species were recorded in total assemblages, including 34 species of living population. Ammonia beccarii and Elphidium etigoense in living population and Ammonia beccarii, Elphidium etigoense, Jadammina sp. and Textularia earlandi in total assemblage were widely distributed. Generally, relatively large numbers of species and high values of species diversity occurred in the area of western part of tidal flat. Cluster analysis of total assemblages discriminates four biofacies. Biofacies 1 indicated eastern part of the tidal flat and biofacies 4 indicated western part of the tidal flat. Biofacies 3 were transitional zone between biofacies 1 and 4.
This paper focuses on the depositional processes and environmental changes during initial marine flooding recorded in the lower Cambrian succession of the North China Platform in Shandong Province, China. In order to understand imbalance of accommodation and sediment supply in the initial stage of basin-fill, a detailed analysis of sedimentary facies was made for the lowermost siliciclastic deposits of the Liguan Formation. It reveals ten siliciclastic lithofacies in three large-scale outcrops (Jinhe, Anqianzhuang, and Zhangjiapo sections). These facies are grouped into four facies associations, representing siliciclastic foreshoreshoreface (S1), siliciclastic offshore (S2), distributary mouth bars (S3), and coastal plain (S4). The siliciclastic components occur in a linear belt, emanating from a major drainage system in the northeastern part of the platform. Deposition of siliciclastic sediments was largely controlled by regional topography of the unconformable surface and shoreline configuration as well as strong effect of waves and currents. With ensued rise in sea level and decrease in siliciclastic sediment supply, carbonate sediments prevailed, filling the accommodation created by epeirogenic subsidence and sediment loading.
The XRF core scanner was used, to analyze high resolution chemical elements in deep sea sediment cores from Clarion-Clipperton fracture zone of the northeastern Pacific. Comparison of data estimated by the XRF core scanner with ICP-AES showed relatively weak correlation coefficients between elements (especially Ba, Pb, Sr, Zr) except for Mn contents ($r^2$ > 0.89). However down-core variations of most elements seemed to be well matched each other and furthermore, XRF core scanner data reflected changes of sedimentary facies characterized by sediment colors. Mn/Al ratio dramatically changed at boundaries of facies in BC08-02-05 and BC08-02-13 but progressive changes occured in BC08-02-02, BC08-02-09 and BC08-02-10 where the sediments have been affected by bioturbations. The difference of Mn/Al ratio in each facies (Facies I, Facies II, Facies III) has been caused by redox condition of depositional environment. Vertical change of Mn/Al ratio were divided into two types probably affected by activities of benthic organisms in the study area.
