Assessing Web Browser Security Vulnerabilities with respect to CVSS

  • Since security vulnerabilities newly discovered in a popular Web browser immediately put a number of users at risk, urgent attention from developers is required to address those vulnerabilities. Analysis of characteristics in the Web browser vulnerabilities can be used to assess security risks and to determine the resources needed to develop patches quickly to handle vulnerabilities discovered. So far, being a new research area, the quantitative aspects of the Web browser vulnerabilities and risk assessments have not been fully investigated. However, due to the importance of Web browser software systems, further detailed studies are required related to the Web browser risk assessment, using rigorous analysis of actual data which can assist decision makers to maximize the returns on their security related efforts. In this paper, quantitative software vulnerability analysis has been presented for major Web browsers with respect to the Common Vulnerability Scoring System. Further, vulnerability discovery trends in the Web browsers are also investigated. The results show that, almost all the time, vulnerabilities are compromised from remote networks with no authentication required systems. It is also found that a vulnerability discovery model which was originally introduced for operating systems is also applicable to the Web browsers.

  • Accordingly the number of smart-phone-based malicious codes is also increasing and their techniques for malicio us purpose are getting more clever and evolved. Among them, the malicious codes related to Android take the major portion and it can be estimated that they are based on open source so that the access to the system is easy. Intent is a technique to support the communication between application's components by transmitting message subjects in Android. Intent provides convenience to developers, but it can be utilized as security vulnerability that allows the developer with a malicious purpose to control the system as intended. The vulnerability of intent security is that personal information can be accessed using discretionally its proper function given to application and smart phone's functions can be maliciously controlled. This paper improves with the Intent security vulnerability caused by the smart phone users' discretional use of custom kernel. Lastly, it verifies the malicious behaviors in the process of installing an application and suggests a technique to watch the Intent security vulnerability in realtime after its installation.

  • All u-Health system has security vulnerabilities. This vulnerability locally(local) or network(network) is on the potential risk. Smart environment of health information technology, Ad-hoc networking, wireless communication environments, u-health are major factor to increase the security vulnerability. u-health care information systems user terminal domain interval, interval public network infrastructure, networking section, the intranet are divided into sections.   • Company A's core competency is IT internet security services. The Web diagnosis team analyzes the vulnerability of customer's internet web servers and provides remedy reports. Traditionally, Company A management has utilized a simple table format report for resource planning. But these reports do not notify the timing of human resource commitment. So, upper management asked its team leader to organize a task team and design a visual dashboard for decision making with the help of outside professional. The Task team selected the web security diagnosis practice process as a pilot and designed a dashboard for performance evaluation. A structural design process was implemented during the heuristic working process. Some KPI (key performance indicators) for checking the productivity of internet web security vulnerability reporting are recommended with the calculation logics. This paper will contribute for security service management to plan and address KPI design policy, target process selection, and KPI calculation logics with actual sample data.

  • In accordance with information security compliance and security regulations, there is a need to develop regular and real-time concepts for cyber-infringement attacks against network system vulnerabilities in branch and periodic forms. Vulnerability Analysis Analysis It is judged that it will be a countermeasure against new hacking attack in case of concept validation by interworking with TOOL. Vulnerability check module is standardized in event attribute management and ease of operation. Opening in terms of global sharing of vulnerability data, owasp zap / Angry ip Etc. were investigated in the SIEM system with interlocking design implementation method.   • Smart environment of health information technology, u-Healthcare architecture, ad-hoc networking and wireless communications environment are major factors that increase vulnerability of u-healthcare information systems. Traffic domain is the concept of network route that identifies the u-Healthcare information systems area as the traffic passing and security technologies application. The criterion of division is an area requiring the application of security technology. u-Healthcare information system domains are derived from the intranet section. the public switched network infrastructure, and networking sectors. Domains of health information systems are separated by domain vulnerability reason. In this study, domain-specific security vulnerability assessment system based on the USN in u-Healthcare system is derived. The model used in this study suggests how to establish more effective measurement USN-based health information network security vulnerability which has been vague until now.

  • As the IT environment becomes more sophisticated, various threats and their associated serious risks are increasing. Threats such as DDoS attacks, malware, worms, and APT attacks can be a very serious risk to enterprises and must be efficiently managed in a timely manner. Therefore, the government has designated the important system as the main information communication infrastructure in consideration of the impact on the national security and the economic society according to the 'Information and Communication Infrastructure Protection Act', which, in particular, protects the main information communication infrastructure from cyber infringement. In addition, it conducts management supervision such as analysis and evaluation of vulnerability, establishment of protection measures, implementation of protection measures, and distribution of technology guides. Even now, security consulting is proceeding on the basis of 'Guidance for Evaluation of Technical Vulnerability Analysis of Major IT Infrastructure Facilities'. There are neglected inspection items in the applied items, and the vulnerability of APT attack, malicious code, and risk are present issues that are neglected. In order to eliminate the actual security risk, the security manager has arranged the inspection and ordered the special company. In other words, it is difficult to check against current hacking or vulnerability through current system vulnerability checking method. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for extracting diagnostic data regarding the necessity of upgrading system vulnerability check, a check item that does not reflect recent trends, a technical check case for latest intrusion technique, a related study on security threats and requirements. Based on this, we investigate the security vulnerability management system and vulnerability list of domestic and foreign countries, propose effective security vulnerability management system, and propose further study to improve overseas vulnerability diagnosis items so that they can be related to domestic vulnerability items.

  • Vulnerability information, which can cause serious damage to information assets, has become a valuable commodity, thereby leading to the creation of a vulnerability market. Vulnerability information is traded on the vulnerability market from several hundred dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on its severity and importance, and the types and scope of the vulnerability markets are varying. Based on previous studies on vulnerability markets and hackers, this study empirically analyzed the effects of the security researcher's vulnerability research motivation on his/her vulnerability market use intention. The results are discussed as follows. First, vulnerability research self-efficacy had a significant effect on flow and on white and black market use intention but not on perceived benefit. Second, flow had a significant effect on perceived benefit and on black market use intention but had no effect on white market use intention. Third, perceived profit had a significant effect on white and black market use intention. Fourth, vulnerability research self-efficacy had a significant effect on perceived benefit through flow. Fifth, flow had a significant effect on white and black market use intention through perceived profit. These findings can be used to predict the behavior of security researchers who have experience in exploiting vulnerabilities.

  • The information security industry has seen a wide variety of growth over the past few decades. In particular, various solutions have been proposed in terms of technology, management, and institutional aspects. Nevertheless, it should be notedthat security accidents continue to occur every year. This proves that there are limitations to various business changes in the digital era as existing security is being promoted with technology-oriented and prevention-oriented policies. Thus, people-centric security (PCS) has recently become a hot topic in order to escape the limitations of traditional securityapproaches. Through the concept of information security violations, PCS strategic principles, and expert interviews, this studyaims to present a fundamental security incident response plan by classifying human-caused vulnerabilities into 5 categories and classifying them into 21 detailed components.
