  • The enhancement of photoluminescence of Au-$TiO_2$ nanoparticles by surface plasmon resonance has been studied extensively by experiment in recent years. For the purpose of optimizing the photoluminescence property of Au-$TiO_2$ nanoparticles, the manufacturing parameters related to the Au nanoparticles and $TiO_2$ nanoparticles need to be considered. In this paper, Drude model and Maier's effective volume method are used to analyze the variation of the metal nanoparticle radius, separation between metal nanoparticle and dielectric molecule, and total absorption cross-section with original radiative efficiency on the photoluminescence property of Au-$TiO_2$ nanoparticles. The results show that to obtain the optimized enhancement factor for photoluminescence process, the size of Au nanoparticle is about 13 - 20 nm, the separation between Au nanoparticle and $TiO_2$ molecule is about 5 -15 nm, the total absorption cross-section of $TiO_2$ molecules is about $1-100nm^2$ and the original radiative efficiency of $TiO_2$ molecule is weak about 0.001- 0.1. With these fabrication parameters, the photoluminescence property of Au-$TiO_2$ nanoparticles can be enhanced several thousand times compared to traditional $TiO_2$ nanoparticles.

  • This study was carried out to use carbonized medium density fiberboard (MDF) for the replacement of sound absorbing material. Carbonization treatment was performed to improve sound absorption property for MDF at carbonizing temperatures of $500^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$, $900^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$. As the carbonization temperature increased, the results of the observation by scanning electron microscope (SEM) demonstrated that the fibers exhibited a more compressed morphology within the surface section of the MDF than those within the middle section of MDF. As the carbonizing temperature increased, the cavity increased. The sound absorption coefficient increased between the temperatures of $500^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$, but decreased at a temperature of $1100^{\circ}C$. The sound absorption properties of the carbonized MDF and the non-carbonized MDF were compared. The maximum sound absorption coefficient of the carbonized MDF was 12.38%. This was almost double of the value of the non-carbonized MDF.

  • This paper reports a novel steel beam-to-column connection suitable for use in the weak axis of I-section column. Monotonic and cyclic loading experimental investigations and numerical analysis of the proposed weak-axis connection were conducted, and the calculation procedure of the beam-column relative rotation angle and plastic rotation angle was developed and described in details. A comparative analysis of mechanical property and steel consumption were employed for the proposed I-section column weak-axis connection and box-section column bending connection. The result showed that no signs of fracturing were observed and the plastic hinge formed reliably in the beam section away from the skin plate under the beam end monotonic loading, and the plastic hinge formed much closer to the skin plate under the beam end cyclic loading. The fracture of welds between diaphragm and skin plate would cause an unstable hysteretic response under the column top horizontal cyclic loading. The proposed weak-axis connection system could not only simplify the design calculation progress when I-section column is adopted in frame structural design but also effectively satisfy the requirements of 'strong joint and weak member', as well as lower steel consumption.

  • The specially prefabricated steel moment connections with pyramid head is one of the significant innovations in the steel structures forms to improve the installation time and simplify the construction procedure. The beams in this structure form are supported by two top and bottom angles and web double angles. Such a configuration despite its advantages increases the welding operation and filed installation time and costs. In this paper, the effect of using beams with channel and I section in three classes of seismically compact, seismically non-compact, and slender section according to width-to-thickness ratio on the behavior of the connection was investigated under monotonic and cyclic loading. Modeling was performed by ABAQUS and verified by the results of an experimental specimen. The findings indicated that using I and channel section instead of angle section reduces the amount of welding materials as well as easing the installation procedure. However, it has no significant effect on the ultimate strength and ductility of the connection. Furthermore, if the beam section is seismically compact, this form is considered as a special moment frame that has a rotation capacity up to 0.04 radians without any reduction in connection moment resistance.

  • In this study, a numerical model of a shield tunnel with an assembled segmental lining was built. The seismic response of the segmental lining of the section of the shield tunnel in Line 1 of the Chengdu Metro is analyzed as it passes through the interface of sand-cobble and mudstone layers. To do so, the node-stress seismic-motion input method was used to input the seismic motion measured during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, and the joint openings and dislocations associated with the earthquake action were obtained. With reference to the Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer (EPDM) sealing gaskets used in the shield tunnels in the Chengdu Metro, numerical simulation was applied to analyze the contact pressure along the seepage paths and the waterproof property under different joint openings and dislocations. A laboratory test on the elastic sealing gasket was also conducted to study its waterproof property. The test results accord well with the numerical results and the occurrence of water seepage in the section of the shield tunnel in Line 1 of the Chengdu Metro during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake was verified. These research results demonstrate the deformation of segmental joint under earthquake, also demonstrate the relationship between segmental joint deformation and waterproof property.

  • This study was carried out to examine of soil physical property and crack shape by collapse process on landslide area (by land creeping) in Hadong, Gyeongnam. We investigated morphological characteristics (length, depth, cut slope) between main crack and local crack, soil physical properties change between undisturbed section and disturbed section. As a result, morphological characteristics of crack showed no significant difference main crack between local crack. In case of soil physical property variation, soil liquid phase was significantly higher at 31-40 cm of soil depth in disturbed section. And this result is likely to be due to site factors.

  • In order to improve the function of a door seal, its section design technique is discussed in this study, Its roles are prevention of an inflow of dusts, noise interception, insulation, wateproof, and the vibroisolating action which reduces vibration between the body and the door of a car while running, and the buffer action which sustain the proper reacting force as the door is closed. In this study, the optimal cross section of a door seal is designed using nonlinear finite element analysis (commercial finete element analysis program EASi-SEAL) and tables of orthogonal arralys with respect to relations between door and door seal to secure the satisfactory airtight property with the minimum force to shut the door.

  • General1y, H-section is used for columns and beams in the middle and low steel building, But it has a strong and weak axis. Thus if H-section is used for columns, the structure needs reinforcement on the weak axis. Therefore recently, square holler section(S.H.S) is used for columns because it is able to coiler the vulnerability of H-section. Structural analysis is usually executed under the assumption that connections are either ideally pinned joint or fully rigid joint. Actually all connections are semi-rigid which possess a rotational stiffness. Therefore it can be designed economically as using the property of connections which has a rotational stiffness. This paper presents a prediction model curve which is fitted Kishi-Chen power Model about the behavior of connection between H-beam and S.H.S column. Non-linear analysis program was considered the non-linearity of semi-rigid connection and the geometrical non-linearity under the effect of axial force. It was programed by FORTRAN90 and Visual Basic.

  • Generally, H-section is used for columns and beams in the middle and low building steel structure, But it has a axis and a weak axis. Thus if H-section is used for columns, the structure needs reinforcement on the weak axis. Therefore recently, square hollow section(S.H.S) is used for columns because it is able to cover the vulnerability of H-section. This paper presents a prediction model curve which is fitted with Kishi-Chen Power Model about the behavior of connection between H-beam and S.H.S column in the previous experimental paper. It also suggests the new analysis algorithm considering the non-linear of semi-rigid connection and the geometrical non-linear under the effect of axial force.
