Softening os the name used for decreasing bending moment at advanced flexural deformation. To accommodate softening deformation in analysis, it is assumed that a hinge has finite length. The softening analysis of R/C frames relies on the primary assumption that softening occurs over a finite hinge length and that the moment-curvature relationship for any section may be closely described by a trilinear approximation. A stiffness matrix for elastic element with softening regions are derived and the stiffness matrix allows extension of the capability of an existing computer program for elastic-plastic analysis to the softening situation. The effect of softening on the collapse load of R/C frame is evaluated.

A Dual Mass Flywheel system is a evolution to the reduction of torsional vibration and impact noise occuring in powertrain when a vehicle is eit-her moving or idling. The name already explains what it is : The mass of the conventional single mass flywheel is divided. One section continues to belong to the mass moment of inertia of the engine-side. The ot-her section increass the mass moment of inertia of the transmission-side. The two masses are connected via a spring /damping system. This reduces the speed at which the dreaded resonance occurs to below idle speed. Since 1984 Dual Mass Flywheel has been de-veloped again and again. But the prosidures of de-velopment of D.M.F system didn't have had differe-nce from conventional clutch system's trial and err-or This paper presents the method for systematical design of D.M.F system with demensionless design variables of D.M.F system mass ratio between two flywheels λ. natual frequency rate of two flywheel s, ${\gamma}$and viscosity coefficient ζ. And experimental re-sults are used to prove these theoretical results.

In recent years there are so many medical informations that surgeons should know to handle or analyze their large amount of surgical cases. Proper use of computer system offers new opportunities for the storage and manipulation of their hospital informations. But little is reported about which system, is appropriate, how much can we do with such a system, or what kind of work can be done with that, especially in the area of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery section. Authors designed a computer-based patient file management system using 16 Bit AT IBM personal computer and dBASE IV program, and developed a coding system for the diagnosis and operation name, which offers the basis for the classification of the surgical patient data. And the result of some experiences which was got from the total surgical cases of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Section, Seoul District Armed Forces General Hospital during past 5years, was described.

Understanding how the b-wave of the electroretinogram (ERG) is generated by full-field light stimulation is still a challenge in visual neuroscience. To understand more about the origin of the b-wave, we studied the contributions of gap junctions to the ERG b-wave. Many types of retinal neurons are connected to similar and different neighboring neurons through gap junctions. The photopic (cone-dominated) ERG, stimulated by a small light beam, was recorded from goldfish (Carassius auratus) using a corneal electrode. Data were obtained before and after intravitreal injection of agents into the eye under a photopic illumination level. Several agents were used to affect gap junctions, such as dopamine D1 and D2 receptor agonists and antagonists, a nitric oxide (NO) donor, a nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor, the gap junction blocker meclofenamic acid (MFA), and mixtures of these agents. The ERG b-waves, which were enhanced by MFA, sodium nitroprusside (SNP), SKF 38393, and sulpiride, remained following application of a further injection of a mixture with MFA. The ERG b-waves decreased following $N^G$-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), SCH 23390, and quinpirole administration but were enhanced by further injection of a mixture with MFA. These results indicate that gap junction activity influences b-waves of the ERG related to NO and dopamine actions.

Ginseng was the most revered of the herbs in ancient times in China, Korea, Japan, America. Ginseng was discovered over 5000 years ago in the mountains of Manchuria, China. References to ginseng are found in books dating back more than two millennia. It is revered by the Chinese people as it is considered a herb for everything use and therefore for a wide range of diseases (currently its Latin name derived from the Greek panacea, meanings, that is, for everything). So, it was used exclusively by the Chinese Emperor's, and they were willing to pay the price without problems. Increasing its fame, ginseng brought a flourishing international trade that allowed Korea to supply China with silk and medicines in exchange for wild ginseng and later along with what grows in America.

The "pseudo-wedge" failure is a name for a complex instability occurring at the Sarcheshmeh open-pit mine (Iran). The pseudo-wedge failure contains both the rock bridge failure and sliding along pre-existing discontinuities. In this paper, a cross section of the failure area was first modeled using a bonded-particle method. The results indicated development of tensile cracks at the slope toe which explains the freedom of pseudo-wedge blocks to slide. Then, a three-dimensional discrete element method was used to perform a block analysis of the instability. The technique of shear strength reduction was used to calculate the factor of safety. Finally, the influence of geometrical characteristics of the mine wall on the pseudo-wedge failure was investigated. The safety factor significantly increases as the dip and dip direction of the wall decrease, and reaches an acceptable value with a 10-degree decrease of them.

We found Rosa laevigata Michx., a newly alien plant in Songjinpo-ri, Jangmok-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsang nam-do. Rosa laevigata is native to China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. It is reported as a naturalized species in Japan, South Africa, United States, and the Pacific Islands. Rosa laevigata is distinguished from R. multiflora by the large size of its flower. Its Korean name is 'Wang-jjil-re-na-mu' based on the large flower. Here, we provide precise description, taxonomic key to Korean Rosa species, illustrations and photographs of its habit.

A new species, Miscanthus wangpicheonensis of section Kariyasua, is described and illustrated from the morphological characteristics based on a type specimen collected from Gyeongsangbuk-do. This new species is similar to Miscanthus sacchariflorus (Maxim.) Hack., and M. longiberbis (Hack.) Nakai. The characters which distinguish the above two species are short leaves and racemes, callus hairs 1-1.5-times longer than spikelet, and well-developed awns of spikelet. The specific epithet, "wangpicheonensis", is based on the name of the locality where the new species is found. We assume this new species originated from the hybridization of Miscanthus sacchariflorus (Maxim.) Hack., and M. longiberbis (Hack.) Nakai. Miscanthus wangpicheonensis is found in only one locality in Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Republic of Korea.

A single specimen (91.5 cm standard length) of the salmonid species, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha (Walbaum, 1792) was collected on April 19, 2022 in Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do, Korea. O. tshawytscha has the following morphological characteristics: base of lower jaw teeth is black, black spots are scattered on the dorsal section of body, and the edge of caudal fin is black. Although the species is morphologically similar to Oncorhynchus kisutch, O. tshawytscha differs from it in having black spots on the caudal fin. Molecular analysis results based on mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences showed that our specimen perfectly matched with the COI sequences of O. tshawytscha registered at the NCBI. Therefore, we suggest the new Korean name 'Wang-yeon-eo' for O. tshawytscha.
