The mineral industry of the United States is going through a challenging time. The US as an industrial nation faces with increasing demand in raw materials to fuel various industrial sectors but, at the same time, meeting environmental constraints associated with excavating and extracting these raw materials. In addition, gradual depletion of material resources. and the necessity of handling more complex forms of resources of primary origin have led to a decline in her resource productivity, once a strategic advantage of the U.S. As a result. the United States currently relies heavily upon foreign importation of various materials such as precious and strategic metals. However, since the US is the major consumer of most of these materials, the recovery of these values from scrap would help renew her position as a resource-producing nation, and ultimately help spur its domestic economy. Furthermore. recycling would also help maintain a clean environment and reduce energy consumption. In this paper. the author attempts to discuss opportunities and challenges lied ahead of the US mineral in relation to recovering their much-needed resources from secondary sources. The need and demand in various metals in the US will be reviewed and discussed. The implication of resource recovery from secondary sources will also be discussed. Extraction methods treating secondary sources are inherently different from those for primary sources. There is a need for new technologies which are metallurgically efficient and environmentally benign in treating secondary sources. Ways to meet such a need will be examined and key factors to be considered in approaching these challenges will be discussed.

Active control techniques have been used in wide areas of noise and nitration control engineering and a noise barrier is one of them. Omoto's work in 1993 would be one of the fundamental and systematic studies on the actively controlled noise barrier, in which he used equal number of control sources and error sensors. The error sensors were placed uniformly along the top edge of the noise barrier with equal distance apart and the control sources were placed in the exactly same way some distance apart from the error sensors. Since then, a couple of studies were made on the secondary sources'arrangement rather than the optimality of secondary source positions. Shao's results showed that arc shaped arrangement for secondary sources is better than the straight line one, and later work of Yang showed that the more important factor is the average distance between the primary source and secondary sources. However, since these studies were all executed with a simple uniform distribution of the secondary sources along the straight line or arc, it is difficult to conclude which arrangement is superior In order for the fare comparison. the optimality of the source positions in each arrangement must be given in prior. The primary goal of this study is focused on this aspect and some major factors were investigated and compared. The computer simulation results showed that the arc shaped arrangement is marginally better than the straight line one, and more importantly slightly tuned position can greatly improve the performance of the control system.

Carbonyl compounds have been measured in downtown Seoul for September 1998 using 2-series impinger method. Average concentration (ppbv) of carbonyl compounds were 12.66$\pm$5.77 HCHO, 12.05$\pm$4.86 CH3CHO and 7.92$\pm$2.63 CH3CHCH3 These compounds were the most abundant carbonyl,. They showed maximum concentration during the daytime when photochemical activity was very strong minimum concentration were usually showed during the night and early morning. Comparison of diurnal variation of carbonyl compounds with the concentration of O3, NMHC, CO and meteorological data indicated that primary and secondary sources contributed the observed carbonyl compounds. Photochemical Formation Rate(PFR) of carbonyl compounds dur-ing the sampling periods were 61% HCHO, 85% CH3CHO, 85% CH3CHO, 71% CH3COCH3.
We investigate the role of secondary electrons in galaxy clusters and in ultra-luminous infrared galaxies (ULIGs). The radio emission in galaxy clusters and ULIGs is believed to be produced by the synchrotron radiation of relativistic electrons. Nonetheless, the sources of these relativistic electrons are still unclear. Relativistic secondary electrons can be produced from the hadronic interactions of cosmic-ray nuclei with the intra-cluster media (ICM) of galaxy clusters and the dense molecular clouds of ULIGs. We estimate the contribution of the secondary electrons in galaxy clusters and ULIGs by comparing observational results with theoretical calculations for the radio emission in these sources. We find that the radio halos of galaxy clusters can not be produced from the secondary electrons; on the other hand, at least for some ULIGs, the radio emission can be dominated by the synchrotron emission of the secondary electrons.

In this paper, we propose a model of the collaborative authoring tool and its implementation results. In the 'collaborative authoring and automatic distribution system,' users can create eBooks by using partial works (primary and edited sources) on the basis of copyright information registered by the primary author. The Collaborative Authoring Tool is a part of "the collaborative authoring and automatic distribution system" developed through research on "the development of key technologies of social work protection and content mashup tools" as an R&D project granted by the Korea Copyright Commission from 2013. In the collaborative authoring and automatic distribution system, authors of primary sources such as images, audio clips and video clips for eBooks can register them together with the copyright information; users can edit the primary sources to produce secondary sources and in turn register the secondary sources on the system; and users can create and distribute eBooks by using the sources registered in the system.
There is a variety of opinions about the first translation activities within the Turkic Empire. It is widely believed that some Buddhist sutras were translated into the Turkic language in the period of Taspar Qagan (572-581). This theory is based on certain arguments: Some Turks practiced Buddhism, Buddhist monks translated sutras in the center of the Turkic Empire, Taspar brought sutras from China and had them translated, and the monarch of Northern Qi had a sutra translated and sent to Taspar. However, in my opinion, these arguments lack credibility. This article, which is based on primary Chinese sources, will question the likelihood of such translation activities having occurred. Some Chinese records for these claims exist: Da Tang Nei Dian Lu (大唐內典錄) and Xu Gao Seng Chuan (續高僧傳) by the Buddhist monk Jinagupta and the records of Hui Lin in Sui Shu (隋書) and Wen Xian Tong Kao (文獻通考). These are known as "primary sources." Secondary sources, namely contemporary history and language studies, such as those in books and articles, must be based on primary sources. It can be seen that claims relating to the first Turkic translation activities at the time of Taspar are mainly derived from secondary sources, and that the arguments in these secondary sources vary. Sometimes researchers make suppositions on the existence of information that is not referred to in primary sources. However, this is not normal practice. If a researcher relies on unknowns for the evidence of information existing, it can cause false information, ideas and anachronisms to be created. It is important that primary sources, such as the Chinese sources mentioned above, be translated correctly in language and history studies. If only a word is mistranslated, very different results may occur. Mistranslating or misinterpreting a primary source allows conclusions to be reached that are not supported by dissemination of information from primary sources. This can mislead experts and result in information that is not correct being considered as being true. As well as helping to prevent such misinterpretations occurring, another aim of this paper is to question the interpretations of the first Turkic translations in contemporary studies on history and language. The origin of such assessments will be explored and the validity of that information will be examined.

Active control of acoustic noise is an application area of adaptive digital signal processing with increasingly interest along the last year. This work studies the implementation of the multichannel LMS filter and the application of this algorithm for the reduction of the noise inside a vechicle cabin using a number of 'secondary sources' drived by adaptive filtering of a reference noise source. Firstly, we propose the use of an adaptive method for the time-varient optimal convergence factor. Secondly, we propose the use of adaptive delayed inverse model to estimate the elastic-acoustic transfer function presented in vechicle cabin. The original, primary source is often periodic, with a known fundamental frequency. A suitably filtered reference signal can thus be used to drive the secondary sources. An algorithm is presented for adapting the coefficients of an FIR filter feeding such a secondary source in such a way as to minimize the output of a suitably placed microphone. In this algorithm, the coefficients of adaptive filter driving an array of secondary sources can be adapted to minimize the sum of the squares of the outputs of a number of error microphones. The multichannel LMS algorithm displays that such an algorithm is considered suitable to used for the global suppression of noise in vehicle cabin.

The objective of this study was to estimate the $PM_{2.5}$ source apportionment at the Pinnacles National Monument IMPROVE site in western coastal USA. The PMF was applied to identify the existing sources and apportion the $PM_{2.5}$ mass to each source. To analyze local source impacts from various wind directions, the NPR analysis was performed using source contribution results with the wind direction values measured at the site. Also, PSCF was applied to identify the locations by point sources relative to the back trajectories. A total of 1,634 samples were collected from March 1988 to May 2004 by IMPROVE sampler and 32 chemical species were analyzed by PIXE, PESA, XRF, IC, and TOR methods. The PMF modeling identified seven sources and the average mass was apportioned to gasoline vehicle, secondary sulfate, aged sea salt, secondary nitrate, wood/field burning, diesel emission, and soil, respectively. In this study, the average mass was apportioned to gasoline vehicle (33.0%), secondary sulfate (25.7%), aged sea salt (17.8%), and secondary nitrate (10.1%). Also, this study suggests the possible role for source apportionment study of $PM_{2.5}$ at similar areas such as wildness, national park, and coastal areas in Korea.
Centrifugal pump shows the strongest secondary flow. Wake is formed near pressure surface close to hub at impeller exit for centrifugal pump impeller. Pressure gradient drives secondary flow in the inducer region, while in the remaining region the following sources drive together: > Pressure gradient > Coriolis force Low-momentum fluid near suction surface hub moves toward pressure surface hub in mixed-flow pump impeller. Tip leakage vortex dominate secondary flow in axial-flow pump impeller. Tip leakage vortex dominate secondary flow in axial-flow in axial-flow pump impeller
