The production of Secondary Non-ferrous Metals (SNM) is characterized by low investment, energy consumption and cost, less pollution as well as rather simple technology. In the past years, the SNM industry has seen relevantly rapid progress in China. Especially in the filed of clean hydrometallurgical treatment certain novel technologies for recovery and separation have successfully been elaborated, and a number of medium and small commercial plants established. On the basis of four common metals Cu, Al, Pb, Zn, and Ni, Co, this paper describes the status quo and progress of SNM industry in China, indicating that a lot of work should still be done in salvage of waste metals. It is recommended that measures for collecting and classifying SNM resource should be strengthened and the research on new technologies for scavenging such metals should be supported.
This paper presents the analysis of the analysis of thrust characteristics of linear induction motors(LIMs) according to secondary reaction plate. LIMs are well known as high speed transport systems, which can obtain thrust directly without gears and links, or auxiliary mechanisms. A simple structure, easy maintenance, and less environmental pollution are advantages of LIMs. In transport systems using LIMs, the secondary reaction plate is an important design factor, because it has considerable impact on the cost of the railway as well as the performance of the LIMs.
Untill to-day the disposal of municipal refuse in Korea is entirely depending on dumping the refuse into concave land except a few case that bring about the secondary pollution by generating insects, offensive odour and the dust blow which cause adverse effects to dwelling community in the vicinity. It is widely recognized since Korea is ready to be advanced nation must be carried out the proper way of refuse disposal as meet with the environmental standard and ready to accept by general public. Refuse disposal that is practiced by world wide is known as sanitary landfill although it bears some what the expensive construction and operation costs rather than the plain dumping. The following statement is the construction of sanitary landfill in brief. When one takes a look at the Unites States which has huge territory normaly carry out the refuse disposal by anaerobic improved landfill method while the country has limitted land is experimenting various types of landfill which bring about the earier reuse of completed landfill site and minimise the secondary pollution. The author of this article consider out of several landfill methods the semi aerobic landfill will be widely applied in Korea in coming day, the following article will elaborate little more about the semi aerobic method.

During the past two decades, primary pollutants in the ambient air have been substantially reduced in Korea by aggressive government efforts such as the switchover to clean fuels and equipment of automobiles with a three-way catalytic converter. However, visibility impairment in Seoul and major metropolitan areas has been a stubborn problem. It is apparent that both directly emitted fine particles mainly from vehicles and secondary fine particles from photochemical reactions could contribute to this visibility impairment. In addition, Korea is located downwind of the prevailing westerlies from China and is influenced by the emissions of air pollutants in China. In order to assess this complicated problem of visibility impairment, the visibility trends for the past 17 years observed at more than 60 stations throughout the country were analyzed. The results showed that visibilities were generally the lowest in the winter morning in comparison with those in the summer afternoon as well as the annual average values. It was believed that primary pollution was principally responsible for visibility impairment in most areas. The visibility in the summer afternoon was lower in clean coastal areas along with a high level of relative humidity due to the inflow of moist air accompanied by sea breeze. Although contributions of secondary particles from photochemical reactions and long-range transport of fine particles to the visibility impairment were probable, their certain evidences were not found.
This paper was studied to investigate the equilibrium state between organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) concentration of air and soil, and to know whether soil is a secondary pollution source of OCPs in air or not. The OCPs concentration of air ($C_{air}$) and soil ($C_{soil}$) is not related to molecular weight, vapor pressure ($P_L$) and octanol-air partition coefficient ($K_{oa}$). The slope of the regression line between soil-air partition coefficient ($K_{sa}$) and scavenging coefficient ($C_{soil}/C_{air}$) was 0.2952, which the OCPs concentration between air and soil did not reached to the equilibrium state. The soil/air fugacity quotients ($f_{soil}/f_{air}$) of p, p'-DDT/DDD/DDE and ${\beta}-HCH\;(0.30{\sim}0.67$), which is smaller than 1, means the deposit of OCPs from air to soil. However, $f_{soil}/f_{air}$ of heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, ${\alpha}/{\gamma}-chlordane$, trans-nonachlor, endosulfan sulfate and ${\alpha}/{\gamma}-HCH\;(1.90{\sim}73.25)$, which is greater than 1, means that soil is secondary pollution source of OCPs in air.
Experimental research shows that the nitric oxides ($NO_X$) concentration track at the outlet of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst with a transient variation of Adblue dosage has a time delay and it features a characteristic of resistance-capacitance (RC). The phenomenon brings obstacles to get the simultaneously $NO_X$ expected to be reduced and equi-molar ammonia available to SCR reaction, which finally inhibits $NO_X$ conversion efficiency. Generally, engine loads change frequently, which triggers a rapid changing of Adblue dosage, and it aggravates the air quality that are caused by $NO_X$ emission and ammonia slip. In order to increase the conversion efficiency of $NO_X$ and avoid secondary pollution, the paper gives a comprehensive analysis of the SCR system and tells readers the key factors that affect time delay and RC characteristics. Accordingly, a map of time delay is established and a solution method for time constant and proportional constant is carried out. Finally, the paper accurately describes the input-output state relation of SCR system by using "variable RC model with time delay". The model can be used for a real-time correction of Adblue dosage, which can increase the conversion efficiency of $NO_X$ in SCR system and avoid secondary pollution forming. Obviously, the results of the work discover an avenue for the SCR control strategy.

24-hr integrated $PM_{2.5}$ measurements were performed between December 2013 and October 2014 at an urban site in Gwangju and the collected samples were analyzed for organic carbon (OC), elemental carbon (EC), ionic species, and elemental species. Objectives of this study were to identify $PM_{2.5}$ pollution episodes, to characterize their chemical components, and to examine their probable origins. Over the course of the study period, average $PM_{2.5}$ concentration was $37.7{\pm}23.6$$(6.0{\sim}121.5){\mu}g/m^3$. Concentrations of secondary ionic species; $NH_4{^+}$, $NO_3{^-}$, and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ was on average $5.54{\mu}g/m^3$ (0.28~ 20.86), $7.60{\mu}g/m^3$ (0.45~ 33.53), and $9.05{\mu}g/m^3$ (0.50~ 34.98), accounting for 13.7% (4.6~ 22.7), 18.6% (2.9~ 44.8), and 22.9% (4.9~ 55.1) of the $PM_{2.5}$ concentration, respectively. Average OC and EC concentrations were $5.22{\mu}g/m^3$ and $1.54{\mu}g/m^3$, taking possession of 4.6 and 22.2% (as organic mass) of the $PM_{2.5}$, respectively. Frequencies at which 24-hr averaged $PM_{2.5}$ exceeded a 24-hr averaged Korean $PM_{2.5}$ standard of $50{\mu}g/m^3$ (termed as an "episode" in this study) were 30, accounting for 21.3% of total 141 measurements. These pollution episodes were mostly associated with haze phenomenon and weak surface wind speed. It is suggested that secondary formation of aerosol was one important formation mechanism of the episodes. The episodes were associated with enhancements of organic mass, $NO_3{^-}$ and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ in winter, of $NO_3{^-}$ and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ in spring, and of $SO_4{^{2-}}$ in summer. Potential source contribution function results indicate also that $PM_{2.5}$ episodes were likely attributed to local and regional haze pollution transported from northeastern China in winter, to atmospheric processing of local emissions rather than long-range transport of air pollutants in spring, and to the $SO_4{^{2-}}$ driven by photochemistry of $SO_2$ in summer.

A severe haze event occurred in October 2015 in Gwangju, Korea. In this study, the driving chemical species and the formation mechanisms of $PM_{2.5}$ pollution were investigated to better understand the haze event. Hourly concentrations of $PM_{2.5}$, organic and elemental carbon, water-soluble ions, and elemental constituents were measured at the air quality intensive monitoring station in Gwangju. The haze event occurred was attributed to a significant contribution (72.3%) of secondary inorganic species concentration to the $PM_{2.5}$, along with the contribution of organic aerosols that were strongly attributed to traffic emissions over the study site. MODIS images, weather charts, and air mass backward trajectories supported the significant impact of long-range transportation (LTP) of aerosol particles from northeastern China on haze formation over Gwangju in October 2015. The driving factor for the haze formation was stagnant atmospheric flows around the Korean peninsula, and high relative humidity (RH) promoted the haze formation at the site. Under the high RH conditions, $SO{_4}^{2-}$ and $NO_3{^-}$ were mainly produced through the heterogenous aqueous-phase reactions of $SO_2$ and $NO_2$, respectively. Moreover, hourly $O_3$ concentration during the study period was highly elevated, with hourly peaks ranging from 79 to 95ppb, suggesting that photochemical reaction was a possible formation process of secondary aerosols. Over the $PM_{2.5}$ pollution, behavior and formation of secondary ionic species varied with the difference in the impact of LTP. Prior to October 19 when the influence of LTP was low, increasing rate in $NO_3{^-}$ was greater than that in $NO_2$, but both $SO_2$ and $SO{_4}^{2-}$ had similar increasing rates. While, after October 20 when the impact of haze by LTP was significant, $SO{_4}^{2-}$ and $NO_3{^-}$ concentrations increased significantly more than their gaseous precursors, but with greater increasing rate of $NO_3{^-}$. These results suggest the enhanced secondary transformation of $SO_2$ and $NO_2$ during the haze event. Overall, the result from the study suggests that control of anthropogenic combustion sources including vehicle emissions is needed to reduce the high levels of nitrogen oxide and $NO_3{^-}$ and the high $PM_{2.5}$ pollution occurred over fall season in Gwangju.

The purpose of this study is to treat the ballast water by shear stress without an environmental pollution and to find out the optimal treatment conditions. The ballast water problem is issued up as the trade activated and the cargos mobilized. To improve this problem, International Marine Organization(IMO) make the rule about the ballast water treatment with specific restrictions. Although many countries have been studying about the ballast water treatment technology, there is almost no technology that can treat the microorganisms under $50{\mu}m$ without any secondary pollution. In this study, we tried to treat ballast water by applying shear stress as the physical treatment for the sterilization and tried to find out the optimal conditions including the 100% sterilizing rate and the best economic condition.
This study was carried out to understand the formation of acid mine drainage (AMD) by pyrophyllite (so-called Napseok)-rainwater interaction (weathering), dispersion patterns of heavy metals, and patterns of mixing with non-polluted water in the Tongnae pyrophyllite mine. Based on the mass balance and reaction path modeling, using both the geochemistry of water and occurrence of the secondary minerals (weathering products), the geochemical evolution of AMD was simulated by computer code of SOLVEQ and CHILLER. It shows that the pH of stream water is from 6.2 to 7.3 upstream of the Tongnae mine. Close to the mine, the pH decreases to 2. Despite being diluted with non-polluted tributaries, the acidity of mine drainage water maintains as far as downstream. The results of modeling of water-rock interaction show that the activity of hydrogen ion increases (pH decreases), the goncentration of ${HCO_3}^-$ decreases associated with increasing $H^+$ activity, as the reaction is processing. The concentration of ${SO_4}^{2-}$first increases minutely, but later increases rapidly as pH drops below 4.3. The concentrations of cations and heavy metals are controlled by the dissolution of reactants and re-dissolution of derived species (weathering products) according to the pH. The continuous adding of reactive minerals, namely the progressively larger degrees of water-rock interaction, causes the formation of secondary minerals in the following sequence; goethite, then Mn-oxides, then boehmite, then kaolinite, then Ca-nontronite, then Mgnontronite, and finally chalcedony. The results of reaction path modeling agree well with the field data, and offer useful information on the geochemical evolution of AMD. The results of reaction path modeling on the formation of AMD offer useful information for the estimation and the appraisal of pollution caused by water-rock interaction as geological environments. And also, the ones can be used as data for the choice of appropriate remediation technique for AMD.
