  • Two-phase flow in a combustion chamber is experimentally analyzed according to the five different conditions in the Reynolds number of $1.02{\times} 10^4$ As the height difference between the primary and secondary jets increases the secondary has a little effect on the primary. In the case of the same height difference the primary jet is affected as the velocity of secondary increases. The primary-jet flow field causes the particle concentration since the particle stagnation phenomena appear in the recirculation zone. The particle concentration is controlled by the velocity of secondary jet the height difference and the angle of primary jet in the test section.

  • This paper proposes a new analytical formulation for computing the seismic input at various levels of a structure in terms of floor response spectra. The approach, which neglects the dynamic interaction between primary structure and secondary element, is particularly useful for the seismic assessment of secondary and non-structural elements. The proposed formulation has a robust theoretical basis and it is based on few meaningful dynamic parameters of the main building. The method has been validated in the linear and nonlinear behavior of the main building through results coming from both experimental tests (available in literature) and parametric numerical analyses. The conditions, for which the Floor Spectrum Approach and its simplified assumptions are valid, have been derived in terms of specific interval ratios between the mass of the secondary element and the participant mass of the main structure. Finally, a practice-oriented formulation has been derived, which could be easily implementable also at code level.

  • In order to investigate the reduction of NO emissions, natural gas was fueled for two-stage combustion apparatus. NO and CO emissions were described by five variables: total air ratio, primary air ratio, secondary air injection position, secondary air injection velocity, and swirl ratio. It was mainly observed that, as the primary air ratios of 0 and 0.4 NO emission decreased with increasing the secondary air injection position and secondary air injection velocity. The effect of weak swirl on NO emission was found to be insignificant.

  • The present study addresses experimental results to investigate the details of the near field flow structures produced in the under-expanded, dual, coaxial, swirling, jet. The sonic swilling jets are emitted from a sonic inner nozzle and the outer annular nozzle produces the co/counter swirling streams against the primary swirling jet, respectively. The interactions between both the secondary annular swirling and primary inner supersonic swirling jets are quantified by the pilot impact and static pressure measurements, and visualized by using the Schlieren optical method. The experiment has been performed fur different swirl intensities and pressure ratios. The results obtained show that the secondary co-swirling jet significantly changes the inner under-expanded swirling jet, such as the recirculation zone, pressure distribution, through strong interactions between both the swirling jets, and the effect of the secondary counter-swirling jet on the primary inner jet is similar to the secondary co-swirl jet case.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of specific hydration reaction on the stiffening process of cement paste. The cement compositions are manipulated to cause specific hydration reactions (secondary gypsum and syngenite formation) responsible for false set, and the relationship between specific hydration reactions and the flow and stiffening behavior of cement paste were investigated using modified ASTM C 403 penetration resistance measurement and oscillatory shear rheology. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) was used for the phase identification associated with premature stiffening of cement paste. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used for verification of syngenite formation. From the results, both secondary gypsum and syngenite formation caused faster stiffening and set. The amount of syngenite produced during 1 hour hydration was approximately 1 % of total mass of the cement paste, but cement paste with syngenite formation showed significantly accelerated stiffening behavior compared to normal cement paste.

  • Single-stranded DNA binding protein (SSB) is well-characterized as having a helix-destabilizing activity. The helix-destabilizing capability of SSB has been re-examined in this study. The results of restriction endonuclease protection assays and titration experiments suggest that the stimulatory effect of SSB on strand exchange acts by melting out the secondary structure which is inaccessible to RecA protein binding; however, SSB is excluded from regions of secondary structure present in native single-stranded DNA. Complexes of SSB and RecA protein are required for eliminating the secondary structure barriers under optimal conditions for strand exchange.

  • This paper describes the effect of secondary surges entering low voltage side on the primary winding of pole transformers. After having connected the secondary winding by 4 different methods, surge voltages were applied to the low voltage side, and voltage waveforms were measured at a surge applied point and a high voltage bushing terminal. The measured voltages were compared by the waveform, magnitude and damping characteristics with each connection. As a result, the voltage waveforms induced by the secondary surges were different one another with each connection, especially, the conventional connecting method for 2 voltage sources was far different from the present method supplying only 1 voltage source in shape of the voltage waveform.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate realities of homemaking education for elementary and secondary schools in japan and to obtain the basic guidance for the improvement of effect of homemaking education in Korea. The results are as follows: 1. Home economics education takes an important role for society. From this point of view, homemaking education is also clarified in Japan. 2. Homemaking education is provided as independently required subject of coeducation in Japanese elementary and secondary schools. And many people think that homemaking coeducation is necessary in the elementary and secondary schools. 3. Curriculum is reorganized continuously and variously in Japan, so that the girls and the boys can learn knowledge and skill which is necessary for them to live home lives, corresponding with circumstance and social changes that surround home.

  • In this study, the geometric design parameters of ejector system were investigated. The critical parameters were primary nozzle area ratio, 2nd-throat cross sectional area and 2nd-throat L/D ratio. At every geometry cases, primary pressure and secondary pressure were measured simultaneously according to secondary mass flow rate. From the results, the ejector starting pressure, unstarting pressure and minimum secondary flow pressure were found and we got the effect of geometric parameters to ejector performance and the way to optimal design of ejector system for chemical lasers operating. Also the experiments of changing secondary flow temperature were carried out.

  • To analyze the gas discharge phenomena in parallel-plane electrodes, the fully coupled finite element method (FEM) considering secondary electron emission effects in discharge column was adopted in this paper. Two coupled equations of the hydrodynamic diffusion-drift equations for three carriers and the Poisson's equation for electric scalar potential should be solved as a system equation. The proposed method including two secondary electron processes of the photoemission and background ionization has been successfully applied to evaluating the breakdown voltage in parallel-plane electrodes and is verified by comparing its numerical results with the experimental ones. From the obtained results, it is inferred that the proposed numerical scheme will be useful for predicting and understanding streamer transient phenomena.
