Natural Killer/T-cell(NK/TC) lymphoma is a rare disease of oral and maxillofacial region with an aggressive clinical course, showed unusual clinical manifestations. Prognosis is generally poor and the disease is invariably fatal after systemic dissemination. A case of nasal NK/TC non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in the left maxilla that showed unusual clinical manifestations and a fulminant course of disease, are described with literature reviews. A 81-year-old female patient presented with rapidly growing ulceration and general malaise after extraction of right upper second premolar NK/TC lymphoma was subsequently detected by biopsy. rapid and wide invasion from maxilla to mandible developed within 10 days and multiple metastasis to whole body was after a few weeks. Although the time relationship is not clear, local invasion and multiple metastasis could be dissemination from localized disease of NK/TC. As seen in my case, the course can be excessively aggressive and fulminant even though it first appeared as a localized ulceractive lesion. She is expired 2 months after biopsy. Positivity of immunohistochemical stain (CD56, LCA, UCHL-1, CD3), which is a specific characteristic of NK/TC, may serve as a factor showing a poor prognosis of a malignant lymphoma
Activator is a removable functional appliance used for correcting the skeletal Class II malocclusion in children with the mandibular deficiency. Berlin standard activator modified from Andresen activator has following characters; do not cover the palatal surface for tongue space, relief on lingual surface of mandibular incisors and resin capping 1/3-1/2 of crown height on mandibular incisors for preventing labioversion of mandibular incisors, L-hook between maxillary lateral incisor and canine for anterior high pull headgear, relief on mandibular posterior bite block for differential eruption of posterior teeth. Two cases presented here had a mandibular deficiency and slight maxillary protrusion. First case (an 11-year-old girl) treated with Berlin standard activator and anterior high pull headgear for 13 months followed by fixed orthodontic appliance for another 29 months. Second case (a 12-year-old boy) treated with Berlin standard activator for 6 months followed by fixed appliance for another 24 months. Treatment results showed a significant improvement in sagittal skeletal and occlusal relationship without premolar extraction. Mandibular condyles were concentric in TMJ [ossa, and masticatory muscle activities were normalized after treatment. In the retention period facial harmony and occlusal stability was maintained.
The causes of the missing teeth are classified as congenital missing, trauma and extraction due to dental caries, variable problems are occured clinically by the missing teeth. The missing of the upper incisors especially would assume a serious aspect, and could be treated by three methods of orthodontic treatment, prosthodontic treatment and autotransplantation of the premolar teeth. The patient of this report had the skeletal class II malocclusion with the left upper central incisor missing, and have been treated with the fixed appliance after extraction of the right upper central incisor and both lower second premolars. The results were obtained as follows: 1. Treatment was done for 1 year 6 months. 2. Normal overbite and overjet were achieved. 3. Cuspal interdigitation was obtained normally. 4. Space problem was resolved with resin restoration of the upper lateral incisors. 5. The upper canines were used as the upper laterals after cuspal contouring. 6. Retention would be required with adequate retainers for a long time to prevent relapsing after treatment.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the frequency of congenital missing teeth and supernumerary teeth in cleft patients. The subjects were divided into bilateral cleft lip and palate(BCLP), unilateral cleft lip and palate(UCLP) and cleft palate alone(CP alone) groups. 97 cleft patients(BCLP 15, UCLP 70, CP alone 12) between 6-20 years old were evaluated. Panorama film, Orthodontic chart and initial intraoral photogram were employed for this research. The obtained results were as follows. 1. The incidence of congenital missing teeth in total cleft samples was $57.7\%$, and the incidence of supernumerary teeth was $26.8\%$. Each incidence was higher than non-cleft. 2. The incidence of congenital missing teeth was the highest in BCLP and the lowest in CP alone. 3. The number of congenital missing teeth per perso was usually one, and the frequency was higher in the maxillary lateral incisors$(67.8\%)$, and maxillary second premolar$(14.9\%)$ than other teeth. 4. Most of tooth number anomalies in cleft patients were found in maxilla, especially adjacent region to the cleft site.
If the centric prematurity occurs after orthodontic treatment, it creates centric slide regarded as a possible factor in the cause of temporomandibular disorder and/or postorthodontic relapse. The purpose of this study was to investigate the manner of centric prematurity and centric slide in postorthodantic patients. The 36 orthodontic patients who had been treated with edgewise appliance at least 3 mouths previously were used in this study. After recording centric relation by the leaf gauge technique, the centric prematurity and centric slide were studied using SAM2 articulator and mandibular position indicator. The results were as follows : 1. The highest percentage of centric prematurities were found on the second molars. 2. The buccal incline of the palatal cusp was the most frequent area of centric prematurities in the maxilla, while the lingual incline of the buccal cusp was the most frequent area in the mandible. 3. There were no trends in the direction of centric slide on the mandibular position indicator. 4. There were no significant differences in centric discrepancies between the premolar extraction and nonextraction group.

This study was designed to investigate the fitness of adjustable dental impression trays. The size and shape of these trays were designed from the results of the dental arch size of Korean adults. Tray samples were made by CAD-CAM working. A hundred dental students(male:50, female:50) were selected for taking irreversible hydrocolloid impression using these trays. The author measured the width and length of impression material on the several measuring points. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Uniform impression material thickness was achieved by controlling the width of the tray using stops and beveled guides. 2. In the upper tray, the impression material thickness was measured to be rather great showing thickness of the labial vestibule 8.3 mm and the midpalatal part 8.6 mm. 3. In the lower tray, length of the impression material of the labial vestibule of first, second premolar contact point was 7.8 mm, and thickness of the lingual part of premolars(1.8 mm) and molars(1.9 mm) showed small values. 4. In the lower tray, the impression material thickness of the buccal shelf area(0.2 mm) and the retromolar pad area(0.6 mm) was measured to be too small.

The aim of this case report is to describe the treatment of a patient with skeletal Class III malocclusion with maxillary retrognathia using skeletal anchorage devices and intermaxillary elastics. Miniplates were inserted between the mandibular lateral incisor and canine teeth on both sides in a male patient aged 14 years 5 months. Self-drilling mini-implants (1.6 mm diameter, 10 mm length) were installed between the maxillary second premolar and molar teeth, and Class III elastics were used between the miniplates and miniscrews. On treatment completion, an increase in the projection of the maxilla relative to the cranial base (2.7 mm) and significant improvement of the facial profile were observed. Slight maxillary counterclockwise ($1^{\circ}$) and mandibular clockwise ($3.3^{\circ}$) rotations were also observed. Maxillary protraction with skeletal anchorage and intermaxillary elastics was effective in correcting a case of Skeletal Class III malocclusion without dentoalveolar side effects.
The purpose of this study was to compare the retentive force of cast half round circumferential clasps, cast round circumferential clasps and wrought wire clasps on three different depths of undercut(10G,20G.30G), and to determine the proper amount of undercut for cast round circumferential clasp. Three different lower second premolar crowns were cast and each of clasp was made. Each of clasp affixed to the different types of clasp. Their retentive forces were measured with universal testing machine. The results were as follows : 1. When the depth of undercut was same, the greatest retentive force was exerted by cast half round circumferential clasp, followed by cast round - 33 - circumferential clasp and wrought wire clasp. 2. The degree of variation amount of retentive force according to depth of undercut was greatest for cast round circumferential clasp. 3. Not only elastic deformation but also permanent deformation of the retentive arm was observed after insertion and removal of the clasp. The results of this study show that the retentive force of cast round circumferential clasp falls between those of cast half round circumferential clasp and wrought wire clasp, and suggest that a 20G undercut is suitable for ensuring an appropriate degree of the retentive force.
Purpose : To determine the more valuable information to detect the mandibular canal and the mental foramen in panoramic radiographs of a selected Korean population for the implant. Materials and Methods : This study analysed 288 panoramic radiographic images of patients taken at the Dental hospital of Chosun University retrospectively. Indirect digital panoramic X-ray machine (ProlineXC, PLANMECA, Finland) with processing by using Directview $CR950^@$ (Kodak, U.S.A.) and Direct digital panoramic X-ray machine (Promax, PLANMECA, Finland) were used for all exposures. All images were converted into Dicom format. Results : The common position of the mental foramen was in line with the longitudinal axis of the second premolar (68.1%). The mental foramen was symmetrical in 81.8% of cases. The mandibular canal was not identified at anterior portion and discontinued with the mental foramen in 27.8% of all cases, in 42.4% identified with lower border line continued with the mental foramen, in 14.6% with both upper and lower border lines, and in 15.3% unilaterally identified with lower border line. Conclusion : Clinicians can estimate the upper border line of the mandibular canal from the confirmation of the mental foramen and the lower border line of the mandibular canal symmetrically on the panoramic radiography taken in adjusted midsaggital plane of patient's head.
This study was aimed to help diagnose the vertical root fractures in endodontically and in nonendodontically treated teeth. This was a study about mine teeth with a vertical root fractures. Four cases were nonendodontically treated teeth and five cases were endodontically treated teeth. A collection of information including past dental history, periodontal probing, and X-ray was gathered on each case. One of the endodontic cases had no periodontal pocket depth and was in acute pain. It was confusing to find whether causes were because of endodontic failure or vertical root fractures. Most of the vertical root fractures were found in patients aged between 50 and 60. Vertical root fractures were found in the molar and premolar of maxillary and mandibular teeth. The second molars repecially, which had C shaped roots had vertical root fractures with apical propagation type. The apical propagation type means that vertical root fracture initiates in root apex and propagate to coronal root. The teeth with vertical root fractures of the apical propagation type, which was in acute pain, were very difficult in differential diagnosis of periodontal lesion and endodontic failure. Therefore, the dental history was very important to make a differential diagnosis. Past pain history repeated uncomfortable symptoms in bite was a key of differential diagnosis.
