Efficient Second Harmonic Generation of Pulsed Nd-YAG Laser Radiation with Noncritically Phase-Matchable $LiNbO_3$ in Room-Temperature

  • 0.65 mol% MgO-doped LiNbO$_3$single crystals were grown by CZ method. The obtained single crystals were colorless and transparent. Noncritically phase-matched second harmonic generation (SHG) of 532-nm radiation from 1064-nm in MgO-doped LiNbO$_3$has been investigated by using pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The phase-matching temperature was room temperature. SHG conversion efficiencies were typically achieved higher than 50% at the phase-matching temperature with no photorefractive damage in the region of fundamental power density which was used in this experiment. The thermo-birefringence coefficient and the electro-birefringence coefficient of SHG were calculated from the temperature phase-matching profile with the electric field.

  • An alternately assembled polycation-anionic dye film was prepared on a precursor assembly of poly(allylamine)hydrochloride (PAH) and poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS) or of poly (djallyldimethyl)ammonium chloride (PDDA) and PSS. The (PAH/PSS) precursor assembly gave better adsorptivity to the anionic dye than the (PDDA/PSS) one. Four kinds of anionic dyes (EB-T, AR-17 AR-18, AR-27) with different numbers of sulfonate substituents were compared. The extent of dye assembling was higher for the dye with a smaller number of sufonate substituents. Second harmonic generation (SHG) was clearly observed from the films. The SHG signal and the absorption intensity correlated well up to four polycation/dye bilayers, while further assembly did not increase the SHG signal appreciably. Second order nonlinear coefficients for ten bilayer assemblies were the order of pm/V.

  • The surface characteristics of polymers for liquid crystal alignment are studied by optical second-harmonic genertion (SHG) tecnique. Using SHG technique, the LC monolayers on rubbed polymer have already been studied. But, in this paper, the SH signals of polymer were observed and the orientational distribution of oriented polymer was studied. Te SHG experiments for side-chain type and main-chain type polymers are carried out as a function of rubbing strength. The orentational distribution of surface molecules of polymers is compared with the LC pretilt angle measured by the crystal rotation method.

  • We obtained ultra-short single pulse with an energy of 80 uJ from Distributed feedback Dye laser. Using three stages of amplifiers constructed by two stages of dye amplifiers and one bethune cell amplifier, we obtained high power pulse and second harmonic generation with BBO in ultraviolet region.

  • Potassium lithium niobate (KLN) crystals, grown by the micro pulling down $({\mu}-PD)$ method, have been considered on the interchange between incongruent melt composition and second harmonic generation (SHG) properties because of the sensitive interaction. Correlation between the composition of crystals and the wavelength of SHG applications from ultra - violet to green region was found. Also, the ${\mu}-PD KLN$ KLN crystals showed a homogeneity of noncritical phase matching and an excellent SHG property which is converted to blue laser light with half wavelength by the red irradiation.

  • A Second Harmonic Generation Frequency Resolved Optical Gating(SHG FROG) system was developed. Its performance test shows that it is capable of accurately measuring the temporal evolution of the electric field, both amplitude and phase, of femtosecond light pulses. For the retrieval of the temporal evolution of light pulses from their spectrograms obtained by using the FROG system, Principal Components Generalized Projection(PCGP) algorithm is used and in addition we used additional constraints of second-harmonic spectrum, marginals in frequency and time-delay of the spectrogram. Such modification of the software brings about significant improvement in speed and stability of the pulse retrieval process.

  • Second harmonic generation(SHG) by guided phase matching is observed in waveguide structure using the anomalous dispersion of a poled polymer. The second harmonic TM$_{0}$ guided mode could be generated from the fundamental TM$_{0}$ guided mode and then the second harmonic power was higher than any other phase matchable mode because the overlap integral between the fundamental and the second harmonic wave was the largest in the theoretical analysis. Near UV SHG(370 nm) was obtained from the fundamental wavelength of Ti-sapphire laser(740 nm).

  • 1962년 Armstrong 등에 의해 second harmonic generation(SHG) 의 이론이 완성된 후 SHG 효율을 높이기 위한 방법으로 비선형성이 큰 물질의 개발과 더불어 위상정합(phase matching)을 만족시키는 여러가지 방법이 연구 되었다. 특히 위상정합의 경우 지금까지는 복굴절을 이용하는 방법이 널리 사용되었으나 이 경우 입사광의 파장이 제한적이고, 많은 무기물 결정에서 비선형광학계수의 가장 큰 텐서 성분인 $d_{zzz}$를 사용할 수 없다는 단점을 가지고 있다. 반면 유사위상정합(Quasi-phase matching:QPM) 은 비선형광학계수( $d_{zzz}$)의 방향을 결맞음 길이(coherence length)마다 분극반전 시켜주어 2차 조화파의 진폭을 길이방향으로 계속 증가시키는 방법으로 구역반전된 길이를 조절하면 거의 모든 파장에 대해 비임계 위상정합( $d_{zzz}$ 사용)이 가능하고, 2차 조화파가 기본파의 전파경로에서 벗어나는 walk-off 현상이 없어 SHG 전환효율을 극대화할 수 있다.   • In order to investigate the surface SHG, (110) pure STO single crystals were exposed to a reducing atmosphere to induce the reduction of the Ti ion and the release of oxygen from the lattice compensating the reduction of the Ti ions. The anisotropy and asymmetry of SHG intensity explains a slight shrinkage. The incoming fundamental wave was polarized either in the $p$-in or $s$-in to the plane of incidence for the reflection geometry. The SH polarization diagram could be described by the electric dipole and/or quadrupole contribution of reduced STO single crystal surface.
