Seasonal Dynamics of the Seagrass Zostera marina on the South Coast of the Korean Peninsula

  • Although seagrasses are relatively abundant, few studies have been conducted on seagrass physiology and ecology in Korea. Zostera marina is the most abundant seagrass species, widely distributed throughout all coastal areas of the Korean peninsula. To examine seasonal dynamics and spatial variations of eelgrass, Zostera marina distributed on the coast of Korea, morphological characteristics, biomass, tissue nutrient constituents, leaf productivity and environmental factors were monitored monthly from the eelgrass beds in Kabae Bay and Kosung Bay on the south coast of the Korean peninsula from June 2001 to June 2002. Eelgrass density, biomass, morphological characteristics, leaf productivities, and tissue nutrient constituents exhibited clear seasonal variations, and these seasonal trends reflected seasonal changes in water temperature. Eelgrass shoot density and biomass at Kabae Bay site showed more obvious seasonal trends than Kosung Bay. No strong seasonality in Kosung Bay site appeared to be caused by high water temperature ($>30{\circ}C$) during summer months at this site. Despite differences in nutrient availabilities between two study sites, eelgrass biomass and leaf productivities were not significantly different between study sites, and this lack of spatial variations implies that the ambient nutrient availabilities at the present study sites are in excess of seagrass nutrient demand. Eelgrass tissue N content and sediment pore water DIN concentrations exhibited reverse relationship at the present study. This reverse relationship suggests in situ nutrient concentrations are not good indicator of nutrient availabilities, and regeneration and turnover rates of sediment nutrients are also important factors to determine nutrient availabilities at the site.

The Estimation of Early Health Effects for Different Combinations of Release Parameters and Meteorological Data

  • Variations in the number of early health effects resulting from the severe accidents of the YGN 3&4 nuclear power plants were examined for different combinations of release parameters and meteorological data . The release parameters and meteorological data were selected in combination to define a limited number of basic spectra characterized by release height, heat content, release time, warning time, wind speed, rainfall rate, and atmospheric stability class. Variant seasonal spectra were also defined in order to estimate the potential significance of seasonal variations as a factor determining the incidence or number of early health effects. The results show that there are large differences in consequences from spectrum to spectrum, although an equal amount and mix of radioactive material is released to the atmosphere in each case. Also, there are large differences in the estimated number of health effects from season to season due to distinct seasonal variations in meteorological combinations in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary to consider seasonal characteristics in developing optimum emergency response strategies.

진두발의 carrageenan 함량과 성분조성의 계절적인 변화 (Seasonal Variation in Carragreenan Content and its Chemical Composition of Chandrus occellatus)

  • The present investigations were carried out for the purpose of making clear the fundamental features of the seasonal variations in carrageenan content and its chemical composition. The samples, Chondrus ocellatus, were collected every month from the same locality on the coast of Haewundae from March, 1975 to February, 1976, and analyzed monthly to determine their carrageenan content, sulphate and 3,6-anhydro-D-galactose over a year period. En addition, some chemical characteristics were also tested on the fractions separated by the different concentrations of potassium chloride. In seasonal variation, the maximum carrageenan content occurred from summer through autumn, and the minimum in winter, especially in February. It is noted in the seasonal variations of the sulphate content of total carrageenan and three fractions that the maximums appreared in October and minimums in february. With seasonal variations of percent 3,6-anhydro-D-galactose of total carrageenan and three fractions, maximum values occur in June and minimum values in December. Seasonal variations in sulphate and 3,6-anhydro-D-galactose contents of the three fractions were on the whole similar in mode of variation, and there could be no substancial differences. Seeing seasonal variations in the sulphate and 3,6-anhydro-D-galactose contents of three fractions, carrageenan extracted from the algae gathered in spring shelved higher portion of fraction I than that gathered in autumn. In these respects, it seems that a more weakly gelling k-carrageenan exists in the spring than in the autumn.

황해에서 저주파 음파의 해저손실 변동 (Bottom Loss Variation of Low-Frequency Sound Wave in the Yellow Sea)

  • The sound wave in the sea propagates under the effect of water depth, sound speed structure, sea surface roughness, bottom roughness, and acoustic properties of bottom sediment. In shallow water, the bottom sediments are distributed very variously with place and the sound speed structure varying with time and space. In order to investigate the seasonal propagation characteristics of low-frequency sound wave in the Yellow Sea, propagation experiments were conducted along a track in the middle part of the Yellow Sea in spring, summer, and autumn. In this paper we consider seasonal variations of the sound speed profile and propagation loss based on the measurement results. Also we quantitatively investigate variation of bottom loss by dividing the propagation loss into three components: spreading loss, absorption loss, and bottom loss. As a result, the propagation losses measured in summer were larger than the losses in spring and autumn, and the propagation losses measured in autumn were smaller than the losses in spring. The spreading loss and the absorption loss did not show seasonal variations, but the bottom loss showed seasonal variations. So it was thought that the seasonal variation of the propagation loss was due to the seasonal change of the bottom loss and the seasonal variation of the bottom loss was due to the change of the sound speed profile by season.

해남 사구미 연안 거머리말(Zostera marina L.)의 계절특성 (Seasonal Variation Characteristics of Zostera marina L. in HAENAM SAGUMI on the Southern Coast of Korea)

  • 한국에 자생하는 거머리말속(Zostera, Zosteraceae) 거머리말(Zostera marina L.)의 시간적인 변동에 따른 형태 및 생태학적 특성을 파악하기 위하여 생육 환경, 형태학적 특징, 생육 밀도, 생물량, 잎의 성장을 비교 분석하였다. 거머리말 생장특성들은 수온과 기온의 변화에 영향을 크게 받는 것으로 나타났다. 수온의 증가에 따라 생장이 증가하지만 여름의 높은 수온은 생장을 저해하는 요소로 작용하였다. 거머리말은 높은 수온에 민감한 반응을 보였으며, 매우 낮은 수온도 생장을 저해하는 요소로 작용한 것으로 나타났다. 거머리말 서식지에 투입되는 수중광량은 조석의 변화에 따라 계절적인 차이가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 해남 사구미 연안 거머리말 서식지의 광량은 낮은 값으로 생존에 지장은 없으나 계절변화에 따라 거머리말 생산성에 제한요소로 작용한 것으로 판단된다. 결론적으로 거머리말은 수온, 광량 등 환경변화의 영향으로 뚜렷하게 시간적인 변동이 나타났으며, 특히 고수온과 저수온에 의해 생장이 크게 저하되는 것으로 나타났다.

거주자 위생활동 특성의 계절적 변화가 급탕 에너지 소비량에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Seasonal Change in Characteristics of Hygiene Activity on Domestic Hot Water Energy Consumption)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of seasonal change in characteristics of hygiene activity on domestic hot water energy consumption. With 16 residents of 4 households, the data about frequency of hygiene activity and water temperature was collected from February to August, 2017. The results of collected data discovered that the frequency of hygiene activity was higher especially in summer, whereas the consumption of warm water they used was higher in winter. The seasonal change in characteristics of hygiene activity was analyzed to be changed and strongly influenced by outdoor temperature. The influence of characteristics of hygiene activity on hot water consumption was analyzed. There was 13% of difference between consumption that was calculated taking characteristics of hygiene activity into account and consumption that was not. Therefore, this study suggested hygiene activity schedule, hot water profile and hot water consumption pattern, which can be utilized for improving simulation as well.

낙동강유역 장기 수질모니터링을 통한 계절적 특성분석 연구 (A study on seasonal characteristics through long-term water quality monitoring in the Nakdong River Watershed)

  • 본 연구는 장기 수질모니터링 자료를 이용하여 수질의 계절적 특성을 분석하는 것이 목적이다. 낙동강수계에서 장기 모니터링이 수행되고 있는 34개 지류에서의 모니터링 자료를 이용하여 수질의 계절적 특성을 분석하였고 계절적 분석을 위해 수질의 평균 자료 분석과 변동계수(Coefficient of variation) 분석, 추세분석을 수행하였다. 변동계수 평가결과, 지류가 본류보다 크고 계절적으로는 BOD와 T-P, TOC는 가을철이 크고 T-N은 봄철이 크게 나타났다. 추세분석은 Mann-Kendall과 Sen's Slope를 통해 분석하였으며 BOD와 T-N, T-P는 감소 경향이 많으나 TOC는 증가 경향이 많았다. 또한, 공간적으로는 낙동강 상류보다 하류에서의 증가하는 경향이 많이 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 장기 수질모니터링 자료의 활용성 평가 및 계절적 특성을 분석할 수 있었고 유역관리를 위해 수질의 안정화 시기, 오염원 증감 변화를 분석할 수 있었다.

대구-경북지역 광역대도시와 산업도시 환경기준 대기오염물질의 시간적 및 공간적 오염도 특성 (Temporal and Spatial Pollution Characteristics of Ambient Criteria Pollutants in Metropolitan and Industrial Cities of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Area)

  • This study considers the characteristics of nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$), ozone ($NO_3$) and sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) in three cities of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Area (Daegu, Pohang, and Gumi), which have different city or industrial characteristics, over a time period of 2 years. The diurnal, weekly, monthly and seasonal concentration variations of criteria air pollutants were attributed to compounds or city types. However, the seasonal variations of $O_3$ concentrations were dependent on compounds, but not on city types. Lower $O_3$ concentrations were observed in July when comparing with other summer months. For $SO_2$ and $NO_2$, the concentrations were higher in Daegu when compared to Pohang and Gumi, while the concentrations of $O_3$ were higher in Pohang and Gumi. $SO_2$ exhibited higher levels in the morning hours, while $O_3\;and\;NO_2$ exhibited higher levels in the afternoon hours for all cities. For $O_3$, the concentrations observed during Sunday were higher than those of other week or weekend days. Furthermore, the monthly and seasonal concentration variations of air pollutants depended on compounds or city types. It if noteworthy that the current monthly and seasonal variations were consistent with several prey ious studies.

황해 중동부 해역 동물플랑크톤의 계절적 분포 특성 (Seasonal characteristics of zooplankton community in the Mid-eastern part of the Yellow Sea)

  • 동물플랑크톤의 계절별 분포 특성을 파악하기 위하여 황해 중동부해역을 대상으로 1987년 4월부터 1988년 6월까지 두달 간격으로 조사를 실시하였다. 이 기간중 총 18속 24종의 동물플랑크톤이 동정 되었게, 이중 12속 17종이 요각류였다. 출현한 동물플랑 크톤중 Noctiluca scintillans가 연안역 정점에서 계절에 따라 전체 동물플랑크톤 군 집에 큰 영향을 미쳤으며, 일부 요각류의 분포를 배제하는 것으로 사료되었다. 동물플 랑크톤 출현양의 30-60.4%를 차지하는 요각류 군집 개체수의 계절별 변화양상은 연안 역 정점이 외해역 정점보다 생태환경의 다양함을 보여주었다. 요각류중 Acartia omorii가 4월과 6월에 Paracalanus parvus가 8월부터 12월까지, Corycaeus affinis가 12월에 각각 우점종으로 출현하였다. 난류 지표중인 Sagitta enflata가 8월부터 12월 까지 조사 해역에 출현하여 본 해역에 대한 난류의야 향을 시사하였으며, 이러한 측면 에서 난수성인 Doliolum sp. 의 10월의 다량 출현도 의미있는 결과였다. 동물플랑크톤 에 대한 종조성 및 양적 분포의 계절적 특성은 수괴의 계절적 변화에 따라 영향을 받 는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Load forecasting is very important for power system analysis and planning. This paper suggests yearly load forecasting of considering weekly normalization and seasonal load characteristics. Each weekly peak load is normalized and the average value is calculated. The new hourly peak load is seasonally collected. This method was used for yearly load forecasting. The results of the actual data and forecast data were calculated error rate by comparing.
