Seasonal variations of heat content in the neighbouring seas of Korea are estimated from the bimonthly normals of seawater temperature in the upper 300m for 15 years (1961~1975) at 192 stations. The heat is seasonally stored mainly in the upper 100m layer in the East Sea and in the whole water column in the West and South Seas of Korea. The annual range of heat content changes in the West Sea is almost the same as that in the East Sea. The annual phase of heat content variation lags behind that of sea surface temperature variation by one to three months. Due to the seasonal advections of heat by currents and winds, the annual amplitude of heat storage rate in the neighbouring seas of Korea is much larger than that of incoming radiation.
The seasonal patterns of sediment supply were investigated during the period of June 1999 to June 2000 on a coastal foredune of Seungbong Island, Korea. Sediment supply was determined from measurements of geomorphic changes in the foredune and beach along six lines. Most sands were deposited on the dunefoot and foredune area during the winter and spring, from November to April. The largest amount of sands was deposited along the lines 5 and 6 near the sea-dike in the southern tip of the dune area. In general, the sand on the beach was gradually eroded in spring, summer and fall but deposited in winter. Total sediment accumulation over the study period was $484m^3$ for the foredune and $345m^3$ for the beach. The volume of the foredune increased in the winter and spring, whereas the volume of beach increased in the winter. Variation in sediment deposition appears to be controlled primarily by variations in the seasonal wind regime.

The objective of this study is to derive a shrinkage correction formula that considers temperature effect and to develop a methodology for the improved prediction of the long-term behavior of the FCM bridges by considering seasonal temperature variations in-situ. Thereby, current formulation were performed by using the actual experimental shrinkage data including seasonal temperature variation. The investigation of the long-term behavior of the FCM bridge was performed on the construction site in order to decide applicability of the shrinkage formula Numerical results by the general method indicates inaccurate values of total strain when considering real strain, whereas the applied method demonstrates a good agreement in the resultant strain. In consequently, the applied method will improve the prediction of the long-term deformation of the FCM Bridges.
Seasonal variations in species composition and abundance of the fish assemblages in the coastal waters off Gadeok-do were determined using monthly sample collection by a small otter trawl in 2010-2011. Of a total of 65 fishes collected, the dominant species were Leiognathus nuchalis, Clupea pallasii, Thryssa kammalensis, Engraulis japonicus, Repomucenus valenciennei, Sillago japonica, Trachurus japonicus, Pennahia argentatus, Okamejei kenojei, Cynoglossus joyneri, Pholis fangi, Pleuronectes yokohamae, and Zoarces gillii. These 13 fishes accounted for 92.8% of the total number of individuals collected. The number of fish species, number of individuals, biomass, and species diversity indices fluctuated with the seasons. The peak number of fishes occurred in April, whereas the biomass of fishes was highest in August. The numbers and biomass of fishes were lower in February corresponding with the low temperatures, and diversity indices were lower in January than in any other month.

The annular denuder system(ADS) was used to determine characteristics of acidic air pollutants and $PM_{2.5}$ species in Seoul-metropolitan areas. All measurements were done simultaneously in downtown(Kwanghwamun, Mullae, Chamshil, Ssangmun dongs) and outskirts(Puch n, Kuri cities) during four seasons. The samples were analyzed using ion chromatography for gas-phase matters(HCl, $HNO_2$, $HNO_3$ and $SO^2$) and particulate phase matters($Cl^-$, $NO^{2-}$, $NO_3^-$, $SO_4^{2-}$, $Na^+$, $NH_4^-$ and $Ca^{2+}$) and was measured fine particles($PM_{2.5}$). The seasonal mean concentrations of HCl, HNO2, HNO3 and SO2 in downtown and outskirt areas were very similar. All chemical species monitored from this study showed seasonal variations. Nitric acid(HNO3) and Nitrous acid(HNO2) were showed higher concentrations during the summer. $PM_{2.5}$, $SO_4^{2-}$, $NH_4^-$, $NO_3^-$ and $Cl^-$ in the particulate phase matters were higher levels during the winter months. The concentrations of these components were 54.8, 3.82, 2.49, 1.80 and 1.02$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥, respectively.

A comprehensive profile of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in public spaces is needed for interpreting indoor air measurements. Seasonal differences in profiles are critical for epidemiological study and risk assessment. The purposes of this study were to establish profiles for individual VOCs in 50 indoor public places in Korea and to determine seasonal variations in their concentrations. Air samples were taken during working hours. Seventy-two of the 91 targeted VOCs were identified using multiple standards. Six VOCs detected in all summer and winter samples were toluene, acetone, m,p-xylenes, ethylbenzene, benzene, and styrene. In summer, methyl ethyl ketone and 1-butanol were also found in all samples. In both seasons, the dominant indoor VOCs were toluene, m,p-xylenes, ethylbenzene, acetone, and isopropyl alcohol. Other chemicals associated with gasoline emissions were dominant in summer. Limonene was dominant only in winter due to the consumption of tangerines. The nine VOCs with the highest concentrations comprised 64.8% and 49.6% of the TVOC in summer and winter, respectively. Comparing two types of adsorbent tube, a single adsorbent tube with Tenax-TA had similar detection performance as a double adsorbent tube with Tenax and Carbotrap.

The objectives of this study to determine seasonal changes in species composition and abundance of fish and decapod assemblage, and the relationships between environmental factors and their abundance in an eelgrass bed of Jindong Bay. A total of 26 fish species and 29 decapod species were collected by a small beam trawl from an eelgrass bed in Jindong Bay in 2002. The dominant fish species were Hexagrammos otakii, Pholis neulosa and P. fangi and these accounted for 48.4 % in the total number of individuals. Dominant decapod taxa were Palaemon macrodactylus, Charybdis japonica, Pagurus minutus and C. bimaculata. These were primarily small species or early juveniles of larger species. Species composition and abundance varied greatly showing a peak in the number of individuals in April and May, and peak biomass in fish in July and decapods in August. Catch rate was low in winter months both in fish and in decapod. Seasonal changes in the abundance of fishes and decapods corresponded with eelgrass biomass and abundance of food organisms indirectly.
In 2012, fishes caught by three-side fyke net in the coastal waters of Jedo were assessed for species composition and seasonal fluctuation in their abundance. The fish were caught at two research stations (St.) and were found to comprise 53 species, 39 families, and 9 orders. The dominant species were Takifugu niphobles, Lateolabrax maculatus, and Acanthopagrus schlegelii. To gain a measure of their biodiversity, all the species were assessed for their number, richness, diversity, evenness, and dominance. The highest and lowest number of total caught fish individuals was recorded in summer and winter, respectively. The diversity index was the highest in summer and lowest in winter. The evenness index was the highest in summer and lowest in spring. The richness index was highest in summer and lowest in winter. Furthermore, the dominance index was highest in spring and lowest in autumn.
For the future energy-mix policy for carbon neutrality, demand for the capability of load-follow operation has emerged in nuclear power plants in order to accommodate the intermittency of renewable energy. The short-term decay heat analysis is also required to evaluate the decay heat level varied by the power level change during the load-follow operation, which is a very important parameter in terms of short-term decay heat removal during a grace time. In this study, the short-term decay heat level for 10 days after the shutdown was evaluated for both seasonal and daily load-follow cases. Additionally, the nuclide-wise contribution to the accumulated decay heat for 10 days was analyzed for further understanding of the short-term decay heat behavior. The result showed that in the seasonal case, the decay heat level was mainly determined by the power level right before the shutdown and the amount of each nuclide was varied with the power variation due to the long variation interval of 90 days. Whereas, in the daily case, the decay heat level was strongly impacted by the average power level during operation and meaningful mass variations for those nuclides were not observed due to the short variation interval of 0.5 days.

This study analyzed the temporal and spatial characteristics of water quality for five hydropower dam reservoirs in South Korea. Water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) showed high fluctuations in summer and autumn at all reservoirs, indicating the existence of seasonal effects. At all five reservoirs, the concentrations of suspended solids (SS) and total nitrogen (TN) fell under the "slightly bad" category and those of total organic carbon (TOC) fell under the "slightly good" category or higher, according to "the standard for living environment of lake water quality." Variations in the concentration ranges and degrees of change in SS, TN, and TOC among reservoirs were observed, indicating the influences of rainfall, surrounding environments, and seasonal changes. Daecheong and Namgang Dam showed high Chl-a concentrations in summer, indicating that the metabolism of microbial communities, such as algae, was active.
